Can the front camera be used to take photo or it can only be used for video call? Also, what is divx used for in the phone? Since everybody is complaining that Satio does not have divx. Thanks before for answering!

Never normally post on here, mainly due to the fact that 80% of users sound like inbreds. However, i've had 3 days with the retail version now (work at CPW) and here are my thoughts -
(Bare in mind my current phone is an X1, and i am a big fan of sony, and had high expectations for this to blow my mind..)
Build quality -
Ok. Battery cover is a very cheap flimsy plastic, but aside from that its ok. No metal parts, which is a shame, but would have put the price up. camera slider is very good, very sturdy, although whilst scrolling on the touch pad i found my hand placement pulling the slider down. Weighs what you'd expect.
Nice screen, although resolution should be 800 really, it would certainly aid what is supposed to be sony's flahship. Good size. Touch is, in my opinion, poor though. The touch on my x1 is far superior and uses the same resistive tech. Scrolling though large images is fine, but accuracy without the stylus is poor.
Not a fan of symbian, hated the 5800 and the n97 because of this, and unfortunately my hopes of sony elevating the software to 'useable' havent been met. It is still clunky, prone to slowness, and really very boring. It also has a habit of blanking the screen every so often as it catches up. As usual, some menus require a single tap, some require a double tap to navigate, with seemingly no apparent reason. Speed is ok, what you'd expect from a launch version with no software update. The areas sony have done themselves, eg home screen, have nice transitions and work fluidly, however the rest of the symbian system is same old. Its ugly, tempremental, and in my eyes really drags the phone down. The on screen texting key pad in landscape is particularly poor accuracy wise, and as the stylus isnt fiytted within the case, and i dont want it dangling off it causing scratches, i'd probably find myself not texting much with it.
Default browser is awful. Slow, unresponsive, exactly like the N97's really. I downloaded both opera min, and opera mini beta, and both work better, but are still slow to navigate, and lack the fluidity of opera on a windows device for instance. It is no where comparable to safari on the iphone unfortunately, and whilst it renders nice on the big screen, it isnt as polished as you'd expect on such a high end device.
Wonderful. Crisp, great colour balance. Does tend to take darker pictures in normal lighting however, so you may find yourself playing with the exposure quite a bit to let a bit more light in. Zoom's good, to a point, after about a quarter of the way into the zoom bar it appears to me it turns into a digital zoom, and picture quality gets hammered. Video is quite superb, very smooth, playing at between around 24 frames and 30 frames. Artifacting is kept to a minimum, colours are vivid and sound is recorded well. The camera is hands down the best on any mobile I've seen through my job (basically all mobs within the last 5 years) and is the one defining factor of this phone. May be enough for some to get over the symbian atrocity, not for me sadly.
Other plus points -
Usual media menu, although with added speed, is very very fluid.
8gb card included
Video looks beautiful on the screen, as does viewing pictures
Decent battery life considering its applications
Still no divx. shame on you sony.
NO FRICKIN 3.5 jack! i've read all the arguements for the fast port, but none that convince me.
Stylus not part of the body.
Accelorometer has a mind of its own sometimes.
Did i mention how much the symbian engine holds it back??
I've probably left a bunch of stuff out, but there you go, thems my views. Would I get it? I've waited with an upgrade due for 3 months to get this phone, and after a day with it I couldnt find any reason to go for it, other then the camera, which I dont really use too often. As a phone, it is no better then a 5800. As a camera, its the best out there. Maybe a few software updates will change my opinion (stabilise the OS) but for now, I am much more interested in the Aino, the rumoured x3, and the n900 and its use of linux based OS.
Any questions feel free to shoot, I have one in my hand right now and i'll answer anything I can.
all i can say is why do u want internal memory, i work in a phone shop and the amount of people who lose there stuff when there phone dies.. (iphone) is crazy give me memory cards anyday, least your photos can be saved..
Pls if u r satio owner answer this:
Lcd of satio is useable on direct sun light? good britness? or useless??
I don't agree AT ALL with ignorant people saying TFT TOUCH SCREENS are better than OLED under sunlight, did you ever compared the X1 TFT screen with Omnia HD???? the omnia HD is way better under many TFT TOUCH SCREENS.Now if you compare TFT NON-TOUCH screens like C905 and W995 with TOUCH screens TFT AND OLED then YES those NON-ToUCH screen are better. I had the TFT nokia 5800 and now Samsung Jet Oled and I can promise you the Jet is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better under sunlight
Mobilemaster, 11 Oct 2009You are right man, OLED is a good feauture, but in sunlight you can see the screen, like you c... moreits nice what you say that sony is giving walkman plan to se.
but let me tell you that there is nothing for free.
i have the information that se is paying high price to sony to use the walkman and the cybershot brands and as i heared that its costing se a lot of money , so maybe next year se could minimise the use of these names in order to minimise cost.... on the other hand if sony is giving the walkman plan to se then it will cost a lot and i dont think that se could afford more expenditure for names rather than quality products...
the new name introduced entertaiment unlimited gives you a hint that se is trying to move away from cybersot and walkman names by combining the 2 names in one as entertaimant unlimited ,,,, do you agree?
Anonymous, 11 Oct 20091. Omnia HD is capacitive while satio is resistive touch. - Capacitive touch is a joke! You ca... moreYou are right man, OLED is a good feauture, but in sunlight you can see the screen, like you can see on the TFT screen phones. The Omnia is better in one thing than the Satio:the internal memory. But you can read what I said about Sony will gave their 2008 and 2009 Walkman plan to SE... So, we will see next year phones with big internal memory!!! Sony Ericsson ROCKS!
I wrote a few weeks ago, about Sony will give their 2008, and 2009 Walkman plan to Sony Ericsson! This mean the company will continue their Walkman phones, and they will add serious internal memory, because we know Sony has 32Gb, and even 64Gb Walkman players. Let's hope the company will announce for next year a 32GB internal memory phone, or a 64Gb internal memory phone! About the new Entertainment Unlimited phones, the company probably will continue their series, on those phones they will not add big internal memory, but they will add big screens, and great camera feautures, on the new Walkman phones they will add very big internal memories, but smaller screens.
I have the proof about Sony will gave to SE their Walkman plan, I can send the site, but it is not in english.
maria, 11 Oct 2009dude i totally agree with u... I know a phone from se is cumming which is symbian and 12 mp bu... more1. Omnia HD is capacitive while satio is resistive touch. - Capacitive touch is a joke! You can't even wear cloves while using the phone, It also consumes more power!
2 Omnia has amoled 3.7" huge screen while Satio has only 3.5" tft screen - Well They both have the same resolution but Satio is o.2" smaller which means Satio has sharper display. And FYI, Satio has 16,777,216 colors in its display while Omnia only has 16,000,000 colors flat. Plus the OLED is really weak with sunlight. Which is really stupid since phones are mostly used outdoors when you're out.
3 Omnia HD has internal 16 gb while satio has only and only 128 mb.. (wat its a jok.. Only 128 mb..) Hello? Ever heard of memory cards. The HD might have bigger memory but it makes it weight like a brick with 148 g.
4 Omnia HD has way better battery performance because its battery is 1500 while satio battery is only 1000.... - Chyah right! It still uses an outdated Li-Ion while Satio uses the new Li-Po. Check the talktime and you'll see that Satio has 11hrs talktime and HD has only 10hrs talktime.
5 omnia hd records videos is high deffination also plays videos in high deffination while in satio there is no concept of hd. - With 24fps, the HD sux big time! And I heard it skips a lot of frames too while the Satio has 30fps which is really smooth with good audio. Try watching these videos and it's definitely clear that Satio records better:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFWVZ7tkXWQ (crappy audio and very choppy)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJLo7eOLE1I (Very smooth with awesome audio quality)
6 omnia hd lens is a high deffination lens while satio lens is no high deffination... - Its so obvious that you just said this cause you didn't have anything to say anymore and so you made this up. Ha! The Satio has way more better quality.
And 12MP camera of Satio = to 8MP camera of Omnia?? - Oh please... That is so not true!! Sony Ericsson is really well known for the best imaging experience on the mobile phone!!
Again, the Omnia HD is already very outdated and ugly and now, the Satio is the new Beast phone!! So it's time to throw that brick of yours already cause Satio is always the best!!
so sad that there is still no phone even announced by samsung, nokia or lg that can even come close to satio spec. ha! sony ericsson allways lead in technology
dude u must be sleeping with your omnia hd... Its no way better than the satio...
Advantages of omnia hd over satio bull...
1 omnia hd is capacitive while satio is resistive touch.. ha means you can only use your fingers and uses more power hence bigger battery and larger phone.
2 omnia has amoled 3.7" huge screen while satio has only 3.5" tft screen.need to fill the larger space plus screen is no so good in sun light and if you keep it a long time well you wont......
3 omnia hd has internal 16 gb while satio has only and only 128 mb.. (wat its a jok.. Only 128 mb..)Satio has more than 128Gb you have been reading preproduction spec and not even seen one! and it has hot swap 32Gb SD thats no joke!
4 omnia hd has way better battery performance bescause its battery is 1500 while satio battery is only 1000... Sad ole Omnia Li-ion 1500 needed for heavy battery use even uses old battery tech. New Battery for Satio Li-Pol and a Small one as they saw sense to use components with low battery drain and software to back it up!
5 omnia hd records videos is high deffination also plays videos in high deffination true @24fps while in satio uses VGA @30fps not HD but can you really hold a phone still to get a HD recording I think not!
6 omnia hd lens is a high deffination lens while satio lens is no high deffination... You have not even seen the phone to make the comment now I have seen an omnia HD - not impressed.
Just get off our review site because at the end of the day you dont have anything useful to say. we all know the omnia HD is a good phone but so is the Satio and you have not compared side by side just data.
