Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson announced four new handsets today. These are four low-end solutions, which are obviously targeted at developing markets and customers that are on tight budget.

First in line is the dual-band Sony Ericsson T270. It comes in bar phone-factor and is equipped with a 1.7" 65K TFT display with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels. The internal memory is 10 MB but unfortunately it will feature no card slot to allow expanding it. Other features of the handset include Java support, Bluetooth connectivity and FM radio with RDS. There's no built-in camera, though.

The T270 will be available in two color versions - Silver on Black and Copper on Silver. It will be available in selected markets from Q1 2008 but its pricing is yet unknown.

The bigger brother of T270 as the name suggests is the Sony Ericsson T280. It will expand the functionality of T270 by adding a 1.3 megapixel camera. Otherwise the phone is completely identical to its younger sibling. They both measure the compact dimension of 100 x 45 x 13 mm and weigh the mere 82 grams.

Sony Ericsson T280 will hit the shelves in Q1 2008 in the same two color versions as T270 - Silver on Black and Copper on Silver at a yet unknown price.

The third bar-shaped phone for today is the Sony Ericsson R300 Radio. It comes with a VGA camera and a 1.8" 65K TFT display. The resolution the phone will sport is 128 x 160 pixels. As the name suggest the main highlight of this phone is the radio, which offers AM and FM frequencies as well as RDS. The phone will feature only 8 MB of built-in memory and will weigh as little as 75 grams. Bluetooth is also present to take care of wireless data transfer.

Sony Ericsson R300 Radio

The tri-band Sony Ericsson R300 Radio will become available in Q2 of 2008 at a yet unknown price. The handset will be sold in Antique Copper and Steel Black color versions.

Finally, we come upon Sony Ericsson R306 Radio, which is the only clamshell among the announced models. It will also have an AM/FM radio with RDS and will sport a 1.9" 65K color display with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels. In addition to it there will be a secondary monochrome screen, sporting a resolution of 96 x 32 pixels. Sony Ericsson R306 Radio will feature 5 MB of internal memory and will have stereo speakers to enhance the radio listening experience. Those add for rather portable radio player looks - great for taking it with you on family outings. A 1.3 megapixel camera with video recording capabilities is the final feature of the handset.

Sony Ericsson R306 Radio

The tri-band Sony Ericsson R306 will hit the shelves in Q3 2008 and will be available in Coffee Black and Champagne White color version. However there is no information about its pricing at this stage.

SE does not have a foothold in the prepaid market. This appears to be just that. The prepaid market is fairly sizable in the states. If not for Boost, Sprint would be dead
