Sony Ericsson Walkman

It seems that Sony Ericsson are making a flying start the year. Today they have released three new handsets including W760, W350 and Z555.

The most interesting among the new offerings from Sony Ericsson is undoubtedly the Sony Ericsson W760 nicknamed as the "Global Walkman". The phone is surely up to this title as it features quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS network support, allowing it to be used anywhere in the world. The handset will also support HSDPA for faster data transfers. In addition to the Walkman functionality the handset will pack a 3.2 megapixel camera with built-in accelerometer allowing screen auto-rotation and Shake control.

The Sony Ericsson W760 will feature a relatively large 2.2" display with QVGA resolution and will be capable of showing up to 262K colors. The phone will also have 40 MB of internal memory expandable through the Memory Stick Micro card slot. According to the manufacturer there will be a 1GB memory card included in the retail package.

The final exciting feature of Sony Ericsson W760 is the built-in GPS with Wayfinder Navigator application. Unluckily a paid subscription will be needed for the program to work. Packed in the relatively small dimensions of 103 x 48 x 15 mm and weighting 103g the Sony Ericsson W760 will also feature Bluetooth with A2DP support and FM radio with RDS.

Sony Ericsson W760 will be available in three color versions (Rocky Silver, Fancy Red and Intense Black) in selected markets from Q2 2008. However, there is no information about its price at this stage.

Next in line comes the other walkman proposal - Sony Ericsson W350. This handset has far more modest specification than its W760 cousin. It is equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera and has 14 MB of internal memory. The M2 card slot for expanding it however is still present.

The dimensions of Sony Ericsson W350 are 104 x 43 x 10.5 mm and the weight is the modest 80g. The handset features 1.9" display with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels, capable of showing up to 262K colors. An interesting thing about the handset is that is comes in the uncommon flip-down form factor. It seems that Sony Ericsson are making an attempt of reviving the handsets with lids over their keypads.

The tri-band Sony Ericsson W350 will be available in selected markets from Q2 2008 at a yet unknown price.

Finally comes the Sony Ericsson Z555 which flaunts the clamshell form factor. It features a 1.9" 262K display with 176 x 220 pixels resolution and an external OLED monochrome screen supporting resolution of 128 x 36 pixels.

Bluetooth with A2DP support and 1.3 megapixel camera are some of the other multimedia features of the tri-band Z555. The internal memory is only 12MB, but it is expandable through the built-in M2 card slot.

The Sony Ericsson Z555 will measure 95 x 49 x 16.5 mm, weighting 95g. The phone will be available in selected markets as soon as Q1 2008.
