Apparently it's available in grey as well as black?!
The keypad isn't touch-sensitive, but the plastic around where those 'dots' are is flexible and you press the button underneath.
BTW, I must say how very disappointed I am with this handset -I have been (quite patiently)waiting and waiting for its release and have posted on this forum at least 20 times, but now that it's arrived I'm appalled by the shody incredibly plastic-like materials SE have used to make this phone! It really isn't as solid-a-design as I's hoped and was expecting from them. I'm `now gonna switch to the K800i -which seems to have EVERYTHING, apart from a bland (and relatively quite large) design -although when compared with the W850 itself it's the same width and thickness, just a little taller. I personally am starting to warm to joystick-navigation (I borrowed a friends K310 and found it real pleasing to use). Remember, the K800i still uses the same Walkman 1.0 software as used in the W180!
its too expensive, and no autofocus means bad camera to me..i'ld rather get k800i ..but still the design is very tempting hehe
is the navigation pad a sensor pad, like the ipods or are those dots actually buttons?
I think this fone is awesome!!!! just a pity its only got a 2MP camera and no autofocus but stil 1 gig of music on this phone is more than enough. Can't wait to get it. Does anyone know when it will come to south africa?
This may be a stupid question but... It says that it has exchangeable covers but does that mean if I buy a black w850, I can change the cover to a white w850?
"how do you guys think? how much is i when it's released..? i'm guessing it's around $650 - $700.."
I guess: your guess / 2 + a little bit
can't wait for this phone to come out on payg, i already have a w550i, which is one of the best phones on the market, as far as i know this will be sony ericssons 1st slider phone, and what a way to start.
can anyone tell me about its playback quality through speakers... is it better than 750 or w800 or just like k800?
This phone is already out in Aus, got mine with Vodafone. You can already check also
check with http://www.three.com.au/PhoneDetailAction.do?mid=25&mname=Sony+Ericsson%26nbsp%3BW850i.
No the sliding mechanism isn't loose, but then again it's only been a week or so, so only time will tell.
It doesn't have changable covers as such, but does come in white (and no doubt in due course you'll be able to get various coulourd non-official housings from eBay, that you dismantle the phone with the special tool first).
No it doesn't have autofocus.
Advantages over w810:
Better screen resolution
Improved music player
Bundled 1GB MSPD
Only one LED flash (W180 has two)
That's pretty much it...
does the sliding mechanism gets lose
does it have exchangeable cover
does it have autofocus
is it better than w810
The sliding of W850i was quite OK and non-loose if compared to samsung Z400. The menu button was hard to pressed when i got it, but u will get used to it later..anyway, it's easy to press 2 buttons at one time especially i got big fingers. It's not very convenient to slide the phone because the "walkman" orange button was below the "pushing bar"..anyway, u won't need to slide it oftenly except u want to type message or searching name through phonebook...
Got this phone on an upgrade from a SE V600. The design is excellent and it feels well built and solid. I love the way I can access all its functions from the outer buttons, without having to open the slider and use the no. keypad. (Can't rem the last time I actually typed in a no. to ring someone on my mobile!)
The pictures and video clips I have taken so far are quite good. They are an improvment on the v600, especially the response time and lag when shooting moving objects in video clips.
This phone bundled with a 1GB card with Vodafone UK. I don't need this for music as I have an Ipod but it is certainly usefull to use as a mass storage device between
I got the white version from 02 couple days ago..the camera is not good..is very bad to not to include the "auto focus" feature in..it's even worst when compare it with my K800i..
the light effects when playing music from the walkman function was fantastic.
this phone looks really good... se has great design team...
se really improved over the past few years!
but i wont be able to get this phone since i just bought a new one.. and i already got 3 phones.... hehehe....
but i would definitely love to have one of this!!!
does any one have problems with this handset where the slide cover is loose? if you was to press a button it would feel rocky and unstable?
