I exhausted my efforts in trying to fix/repair the phone myself before reluctantly sending it to SE USA. I tried the phone update, and that didn't help me. Otherwise, I would have a different opinion on the phone, a positive rather than a negative one.
After the horrid disservice by the warranty process, I have a sour taste for the SE brand at this point.
I know all the shortcomings of the iPhone, especially the lack of MMS, auto-focus lens, and camera settings. But from my experience with my Macbook, Applecare (Apple's warranty dept) is one competitive service advantage that no other brands including SE can match.
Also, does anyone know how I can resize a picture that I've taken on the W960i to a standard 160x120 size for MMS? (My friends' phones do not have a good screen, so it's pointless to send them 640x480 pics) When I'm in the Picture Gallery, More > Edit Picture doesn't do anything.
When I add the picture to the MMS, I can hit Picture > Edit Picture and I will successfully enter the Picture Editor Mode. HOWEVER, at that point I cannot seem to resize the picture. I can crop, add text, add effects, etc. but when I hit More > Edit, there is no option to resize, only to rotate left/right, mirror, and flip.
Too many menus, not very intuitive nor user friendly. Apple wins in this respect again.
Maybe I'll wait for the HTC diamond? Too bad AFAIK it only has a 4gb internal memory without the ability to add more memory via memory card.
Yes,that's true revenant, some older phones from sony ericsson had it, it could be useful but as you say it's not a big problem
And the flat edges make it easier to hold than the W950's metal stylus. One thing I do wish they'd included on this phone though - an ambient light sensor. My W850 had it. Why not add it on a higher end phone? It's not a huge problem, but it can be hard to see the screen in bright sunlight...
And i forgot to say that even though the stylus might look cheap for some people, once you have it in your hands you notice that it's made of very good plastic cause you'll find that it feels pretty good and hard, and it's not that easy to break
Kevin why so many problems?
This phone is pretty cool the back key is not a problem, anyway theres a back key right down the screen.and why would i want edge if i have wifi and 3g
Wario, I had the same problem and ran the Sony Ericsson update service. Phone now works like a charm. The iPhone's really not worth it. It's the most overhyped bit of nonsense since the Blair Witch Project. No MMS, no video recording, no camera settings. And they call it a multimedia phone? On top of that, I believe you have to use the iTunes software to transfer music to the phone, which means you can only do it from the 1st PC you link it to? (I may be wrong about the iTunes thing.) AND there's issues with installing 3rd party applications for the iPhone, so I believe. It's such a waste of time...
FINALLY got my w960i back from Sony Ericsson USA repair. AFTER almost 2 months, 15 different calls to the customer service center, and at least 5 faxes to show I bought this "gray market phone" in the United States from an authorized SE dealer.
Terrible Warranty experience, I hope this new phone (they exchanged it because they could not repair it properly I guess?) doesn't fail me like the original one.
We all know about Microsoft Xbox360 "Red Ring Of Death". Well...if the indicator light on the bottom of your w960i blinks and your phone doesn't turn on (even if the battery is fully charged), I hope you have a better luck in getting it repaired than I did.
I'm selling mine asap, and getting an iPhone.
fantastic phone had it for nearly 2 months now. no promblems so far. best phone in the world so far.
Not only that, but if you've never used the phone, kevin, how can you complain about the stylus? Works fine and feels fine. And what's wrong with the back button? Okay - the position might not be the most ideal location, but it's definately not enough to be called a problem. It's still easy enough to use one-handed...
kevin why do u need EDGE in this phone if already supports 384kbps that is same as EDGE data rate on UMTS network, according to me this is very good phone what one can ask for, i don't know why u have complains from this one.
I've been considering this phone since september 2007. but there are still some kinks SE has to fix with this phone, such as the back button and the slowness of the phone, also no edge, they should also make a better stylus for this phone, the cheap plastic one ryt now is just lame. these are gonna be a problem. So right now I've been checking out the rumours on the H1i( search it up!), looks great but hope they fix up the kinks on the w960i first.
I don't think there is an option to remove a shortcut, but you can replace it with one of your own...
Hey guys, does any of u know hot to remove a shortcut from w960i? I've tried for more than half an hour and couldn't find it...
I've never used an E series nokia so I can't compare to that. The W960 is slightly slower that the N series at first, but after you upgrade the firmware it's about the same. If you update the firmware and install Opera Mini 4.0 on it, it'll sometimes be even faster than an N series phone.
Incidentally, my basis for comparison is against an N95 8GB loading www.encycmet.com
hey frndz ! Can anybody tell me what is web browsing speed of w960 in comparison with N or E series of Nokia ?
hey i finally decided on w960i but read some where w960i successor might come out soon is this true and should i wait or buy w960i thanks
