It all comes down to personal choice....If you want a superb music phone and a PDA, get the W960.....If you want a phone that does everything, get the N95.
Some people do care how their phones look...The W960 beats the N95 hands down in this area....
Ive seen Skyfire, looks interesting, il definetly be installing it and Opera9.5 on my N81 when they are released for S60, even we are excited about them, but keeping in mind that the S60v3 browser has been around for 3Years, thats what makes it the best,it came well before its time.
Yep as a PDA the W960 kills my N81 without doubt.
LOL! OperaMini is great for quick and data friendly browsing but trust me it doesn't touch Safari Browser (Nokia and iPhone), Opera8.65 , Opera9.5 OR Skyfire. @ the person who said Opera Mini4
Well, i think that the w960i has better musixc and equal videos, but the N95/ n81/n82 can handle gaming and photos better (our picture gallery is terrible! one of the things i miss about the N73). I think the n series also have better cameras.
As for web browsers, opera 9.5 should be as powerful as the nokia web browser, with flash support. although i suggest you check out skyfire. Skyfire is literally desktop browsing with support for java, full flash support, ajax, pearl etc and its free. On WM atm, but coming to symbian, (Y).
As for PDA quality, i think that for me it is PDA like enough: calendar is good, web browser good, document editor, push email support.
But WM does sound like an interesting platform, although open source i think is not the right term. Freely customisable i think is more appropriate, as the source code of WM is not freely available: they have to make money! but ye, thanks for your opinions. (Y)
The Nokia N958GB may have a better standard web browser, but if you install Opera Mini 4.0 in the w960, the web browsing is the best any phone on the market has to offer.
To download this, simply go to operamini.com on the handset and select the option to download Opera Mini 4 (High Memory Version)...
In Multimedia what i think is important is having a device that makes handling Multimedia content easy, giving you the best Multimedia experience and having the correct hardware to handle what you put in it like Videos with high bit rates, Gaming or Music.
With PDA its all about E-Mail, Calendars, Document handling, and even Web Browsing. The W960 has an advantage here over the N95, although N95 has the better Web Browser.
Windows Mobile is a brilliant OS ,although i prefer to have a Symbian (s60 or UIQ). WM is VERY Open Source OS, WM users are able to make their own Firmwares, cook their own ROMs, and even overclock the CPUs. The now 2yearold i-Mate JasJar is a nice example, it has a CPU running at 520mhz which can be overclocked up to 620mhz. Also the type of Office apps that are available are endless, WM has over 20000 apps and counting. WM is also very moddable, but must say they aren't great at Multimedia, the TyTN-II is still missing its 3D Graphics ROMs yet it's the Flagship most feature packed WM Device.
The point below by "mikail" was by me: POINTLESS, ADDRESSED to mikail. sorry typo/ freudian slip. :P
The n95 camera is much better than the w960 in terms of megapixel count. You cannot say that the w960i camera is better than the nokia n95 camera. Its simply not true, and makes all your other points seem untrue.
Yes tsepz, i agree, its more about personal preferences than anything else. However i'm interested to know, what do you think is important in terms of multimedia, and what is important in terms of PDA functionality? I have never had a Windows mobile device, and i'd be interested to know you opinions on the topic.
BTW, you can still use predictive text one handed! But web browsing is a 2 handed feat. :)
bros, i got w960 2 weeks ago, i never used so good fone, i will not take nokia, only if they make good fone. i bought n95 earlier, but returned it on next day, i just cannot understand, forwhat i paid so big money, the build construction is cheap, the sound is dirty. my w960 3.2mpx much better than nokia 5mpx. sound is clearlier than any other devises, such beauty sound i heard only in motorola e1. it never hang in compare of nokia, which hangs usully at list twice a day. who like nokia, go on nokia site.
Hmmmmmmmmm, i Seee
well at the end of the day , nobody is going to get a Phone just becuase it has a Better *Graphics Chip* in it are they?
Think About it !
Lol,your Web browser crashed? Don't worry that's something ALL our phones have in common when opening big Web pages, thats why i sometimes use OperaMini like now.
Yes about the whole Dualcore thing you are correct we can't exactly call them dualcore theres quite a bit of debating in the forums about that, yes W960 also has two (cpu and gpu) but both are older and Lite respectively than the N95's.
Yes P1 and W960 have 128mb RAM chips and the older P990, M600 and W950 have 64mb RAM chips but thats one of the only hardware changes SonyEricsson have made, they all still use the same CPU/GPU chipset.
The whole Touchscreen/Non-Touchscreen thing is a personal thing in my opinion. You said you could do one handed use mostly but then totaly contredicted yourself and said two handed use for documents, and web browsing, these are things i do often and i prefer to have ALLROUND ONE HANDED use,but like i said this boils down to personal preference realy.
The UIQ devices beat the S60 devices in PDA Functionalities due just to the fact that they possess touchscreens, but even the P1 struggles in being a PDA this is why UIQ is in such a mess, its phones aren't the best in Multimedia (THATS S60) or PDA (THATS WINDOWS MOBILE and BlackBerry).
One thing i do praise the W960 in is Hand Writing Recognition, the Walkman3.0 player UI, and its brilliant build quality but as a Multimedia device SE could have done A LOT more, W960 nearly brought me back to SE but when i saw the Hardware inside i felt there wasn't enough done.
The W900 had a NVidia GeForce 4800 GPU,it could run SSX with no problem, SE had to discontinue it 6months after release due to lack of hardware components and cost to build it, it was being built in Japan.
This is going to be a shorter answer than id of liked, cause my browser just crashed with my nice long one so here goes:
Firstly, my point is that to use these features (which i like e.g. microphone) you still need an extra length of wire and it makes no difference if it goes in the 3.5mm jack or phone port. You can get accessories with that from SE as well.
Secondly, if you include GPU, then the w960i is also "dual Core" although this is incorrect terminology, as this refers to ONLY dual CPU, not GPU/CPU. I cannot actually find the statment from SE saying its a lite version, please point me in the right direction :).
And while the chipset is similar, it is obviously not identical, as the w960 and P1 have 128MB ram, although i accept the processors are the same.
In any case this is immaterial: if the phone is stable and fast enough (like the w960i is with new firmware update), there is no problem.
I don't know of any software/game that the w960i cannot run because of a lack of processing power, althought Next_Level is the expert on that. I will ask him more on that later and get back to u.
Thirdly, i doubt a w900 could have run it. its a big game: 26 megabytes. but iid like to see it, it would be interesting.
Fourthly, I am pleased to say that yes can use it one handedly for everything except handwriting recognition, on screen keyboard, and web browsing is a little easier 2 handed or with a stylus. I have to say that it is very easy to use.
(Y) well done you have word editors. Good, so do we, but ours are included, and like i said having a touch screen makes it real nice to use.
Nick, which cons have i not countered? please summarise your points. I think the advantages are not insignifant, on the contary, they are much more important for me than the advantages.
This all shows what I said in the beginning: It depends what you want!
whats this about the N95 being dual core? nd if thats ur explanation, let me enlighten you about UIQ 3 phones..SE UIQ 3 phones too have an EMP(ericsson mobile platform) processor as the baseband processor and Philips Nexperia as the app processor!
Guys was watching videos from youtube from my w960i....and it starting to hang...happend twice, thrice and now it's the fourth time...any particular reasons or just glitch from youtube...some good technical explaination is needed...
just because you dont need something, it does not therefore make the handset better.
I'd also say your pros on the w960 are incredibly insignificant compared to the cons. anyone in their right state of mind would take the n95-1 or n95-2 over the w960.
i know i did, without any hesitation
You are welcome. Hope that my post didn't come out mean, but I just wanted to save some people time by instead of asking their question and then waiting for a answer, they could look arround and possibly find a answer allready. If you have any other questions or any problems, don't hesitate to ask, and I will try to answer them.
Yes, also this is a smartphone so there is going to be allot of applications for it available, that you can download off the internet, that do other things, but by default it does read pdfs.
