amethyst, 07 Jul 2008Is the unlocked-sim free version normally out before or after the branded ones?To the best of my knowledge the SIM free phone should come out slightly before the branded ones, but not by much. It'd prob'ly be worth the wait for the amount of money you'd save buying a branded one...

amethyst, 06 Jul 2008ME too!!!! my favourite are clamshells and sliders, but especially clamshells. I am looking ... moreI don't think 8GB is too much. If you add a decent amount of music, so that you have a choice you will soon use up that space. Fingers crossed they bring out a version of this where we can upgrade the memory stick for those of us that want the extra space, as currently it's on board 'shared' memory.
That and the lack of flash and zoom on the camera, the only real limited factors on an otherwise very cool phone.

arak, 05 Jul 2008i really wanted such mobile to have a candy bar configurationHey, they most likely will have similar functions on the next successor of w960.
Hopefully that successor will have a flash and auto focus camera just like w960....

Personally, I've been waiting for a clam-shell-walkman phone for along time :D

kamakari, 05 Jul 2008it is very disappointing as SE doesn't seem to see that this unnecessary grouping of function ... moreThe problem with that is that with Samsung phones you need to go through twice as many menu options as you would on a nokia or SE to get the same result. Ever tried to send a text from a samsung? Type the message then go to options, send, send only/save & send, then either contacts or enter the number. I'll never use another samsung as long as I live...

advisor, 05 Jul 2008It seems that the camera is quite disappointing here but don't forget it is a "Walkman" series... moreit is very disappointing as SE doesn't seem to see that this unnecessary grouping of function is what killing their profits. Unlike Nokia which puts everything that is possible to a phone be it a music or camera, SE on the other hand tend to really cater only to a specific audience when they have actually placed a great camera in a music phone in the past. I really hope they stop doing this since its very possible to have a great camera on a dedicated music phone! Its such a waste of money and effort for them especially now that samsung is releasing phones that have best of both worlds at better prices.

It seems that the camera is quite disappointing here but don't forget it is a "Walkman" series phone after all so we can't blame or expect much from SE. Well, in order to maximize the effectiveness of its music, you may try listening it through a bluetooth headset whereby the sound will be pretty awesome.

I wonder if this device supports unicode. I'm not sure if it can display Japanese characters.

sony is an audiovisual expert and i beleive that to keep its name it should have on every phone a excellent camera and a perfect music department.
i wish that one day sonyericsson will release a phone that combines the w and c series goddies in one phone.
we are fed up to choose between camera and a music phone. lets have all in one
