Anonymous, 25 Aug 2009for sure the W995 if you talk about musicThanks for the comment but when compaired to Audio Quality test levels 5800XM seems to be slightly
good in test results than W995.
Please advise?

yoya, 24 Aug 2009tnx 4 ur reply guys!! yeah .. people will surely question the phones' quality. So wud i change... moreGet a clear plastic case to preserve your phone and whatever stickers are remaining.

Or, call SE tech support or check eBay to see if parts are available.

Otherwise, just live without the case since the case is somewhat durable but eventually it'll wear and show signs of scratches!

Pros:
Excellent camera still quality in good conditions
Bright LED flash which can be used as a flashlight
Awesome sound quality, conveniently located speakers
3.5mm jack
Kickstand
Youtube AND bbc Iplayer (UK)
Screen quality and size
Smooth , easy to use interface
Awesome Walkman player with music skip, play/stop buttons
GPS is quick to find a location, Google Maps v3.0 with Google Latitude preinstalled
Wi-Fi has no problem at all
The UI is awesome looking, snappy, very easy to use- the best UI of any phone
Comfortable soft keys, nav pad
Very cool design

Cons:
Network signal seems poor compared to other SE phones, especially outside from cities where it switches between 3G/GPRS often causing web problems, and loses connection entirely in some places where others can connect
High latency on GPS (Slow to update location)
The phone is slippery to hold- no grip on the back, sadly far too easy to drop
Not the most comfortable keypad, the keys could have been bigger with better feedback
Web browser has some issues with pages
Fiddly, badly located volume keys
Outdated FM radio interface with only basic RDS and no visualisations

I had been using n82 & i switched over to w995, but within one day I sold it out again & got a new n82.
The only positive point is 995 has an external speaker , else according to me being a 8 m.p its still inferior to 82 in all aspects. If u won;t music , go for it else dn't .

juham, 22 Aug 2009i think SE have chosen LED flash than XENON flash because of option that LED flash for camera ... morebecause this is W series. There will be high risk of cannibalization if they put xenon here. Think about the C series, lesser will buy those if they will put xenon with this one. That's what I think

Sony Owner, 23 Aug 2009A survey...... Firmware: R1FA035 Performance: Actually, it's SLIGHTLY SLOWER than before... moreMy phone is noticeably faster! Most ppl are happy with the update thus far so which firmware version do you have exactly? A branded version or a generic version?

I have my phone since July 10 and nothing's peeled off yet - let's hope it stays that way (and no, i do not have a plastic case).

Value for money - 2/10 is pushing it a bit (but you're entitled to your own opinion); while I agree that SE phones are highly priced, this particular model is absolutely worth the cash spent, and the build quality is excellent (very solid).

Besides video recording/playback capabilities, there's nothing this phone cannot really do.

My verdict: superb all-in-one device (I chose it over Samsung Innov8 btw even tho I W995 costs more in my region).

This is a great looking phone, with all the features I want - I've always appreciated SE's UI, and although am stuck w my LG Renoir for another 10 months (and it's touchscreen texting nightmare), can't wait to move onto this...or it's successor....

Upgraded firmware to R1FA035.

Has anyone noticed if your volume has gone DOWN in quality?

I use the speakerphone and the volume is set near the top but it's barely audible.

The ring volume hasn't been affected by the call reception has. It sounds like it's very distant and I had to increase the volume somewhat.

Anyone have anything similar or different??

Thanks!

markjehan, 23 Aug 2009To all having Sony Ericsson W995. In 1 to 10. The Highest is 10 and the lowest is 1..this ... moreA survey......

Firmware: R1FA035

Performance: Actually, it's SLIGHTLY SLOWER than before! Don't know why!! It's still OK but... there is a slower pause when switching between apps!
Phone reception is still good!
Rating: 7/10

Build: Very solid and slider still works well (knock on wood)! SE name already peeled mostly off. Put in clear plastic case to preserve the phone.
Rating: 8/10

NOTE:
It does NOT matter if you "take good care of phone" without a case! The daily rubbing of phone inside a pocket will eventually Rub off the cheap ass sticker!
Put the phone in a clear case to preserve the casing! PERIOD!

Price to features: Fair.
Almost ALL SE phones are OVERPRICED!
Too many owners reporting problems with build or software, even the little ones like the sticker peelings!
Rating: 2/10

markjehan, 23 Aug 2009To all having Sony Ericsson W995. In 1 to 10. The Highest is 10 and the lowest is 1..this ... moreif u have the latest firmware: R1FA035 then:

Performance: 9/10 (was 8/10) - faster thru menus, faster camera speed - just love it

Build quality: 9/10 - solid and beautiful in every respect except for the front name and the 8.1 at the back peeling off for some ppl - never happened to mine yet (i look after my phone) :)
