Xperia arc versus Xperia neo – which should you choose?

Sony Ericsson has created a dilemma for many people in the upcoming launches of the Xperia arc and Xperia Neo. Judging by recent poll, 70 percent of you are looking forward to the Xperia arc versus only 11 percent wanting the Xperia Neo (the balance was split between the Xperia Play and Xperia Pro). However, having gone hands-on with both phones recently, we are beginning to think that many people will be swayed by the Neo once they can see it in the flesh.

Yes, the Xperia Neo is chunkier than the arc, but the anodised metallic look combined with the extra weight gives it a more premium feel. Plus, it also comes with a crucial extra – a front-facing camera. This omission from the Xperia arc even left some of the Sony Ericsson reps we spoke to slightly bemused.

Combine this with the fact that the Xperia Neo is around €100 cheaper than the Xperia arc, yet offers most of the arc’s headline features (1GHz processor, 8.1MP Exmor R camera, HDMI and Bravia Engine) then it seems that the Neo could be a potential best-seller for Sony Ericsson. On the flip side, there is no denying that the Xperia arc is a more beautiful phone. The general trend towards larger displays, also means many people will naturally gravitate to the arc.

So which handset should you choose? There is no doubt in our mind that the Xperia Neo offers the better value for money. You get most of the same features plus the bonus of the front-facing camera (for those that need it). However, comparing the two side-by-side, there is no denying that the arc is more desirable. Whether this and an extra 0.5-inch in display real estate warrants the extra money will come down to your disposable budget.

Similarities

1GHz Snapdragon MSM8255 chipset
8.1MP Exmor R camera sensor
Bravia Engine display
HDMI support
HD video recording (720p)
Xperia arc advantages

Larger 4.2-inch screen (Xperia neo has a 3.7-inch screen)
Sexier design
Thinner and lighter – despite the larger display
512MB ROM (versus 320MB for Xperia neo)

Xperia Neo advantages
Front-facing camera (missing on the Xperia arc)
Cheaper

It's really a eye candy & very elegant to use.
Yeah... there r many basic & important things which r not available in it but iOS & android were in the same condition in there initial yrs. And now even nokia will work with microsoft for the development of WP7. So, we can expect those basic functionalities to be added very soon.

It looks like SE is really geared up for competition this yr. There r a no. of SE smartphones coming very soon.
The leaked WP7 phone, rumoured android based walkman smartphone, a LTE smartphone which SE representative confirmed few weeks ago, many successors to x10 mini & mini pro(SE ceo confirmed it in an interview) & of course a flagship dual core device.

I really hope that the successor of WP7 will be as great as the Gingerbread! The Menu should be cool, NOT in a list form. They should add other features, such as the memory card.

distributor, 05 Mar 2011WP7 phone from SE http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/03/05/sony-ericsson-prepping-wp7-qwerty-... moreHi!
They should make Symbian phones instead of WP7 OS. The new OS is so WEAK! NO copy/paste, NO Bletooth file transfer, no Mass storage mode, it has an ugly Menu! At least Symbian has a cool Menu. I know that it lacks some features, but the new Symbian has a copy/paste, has Bluetooth file transfer, has a memory card slot. I will NEVER buy a WP7 device. I think that the Windows Mobile 6.5 is far away better and cooler. Windows made a big mistake with it's new OS! LOL! :-j

Spawner, 05 Mar 2011Hello mates.. Here i am again.. Im now looking for a new phone to replace my HTC desire.. Xpe... moreOh_my_GOD!! You're really here man?!! i know it might be hard to believe for you, but i was thinking about you last night, and now here you are!! ...O! forgive me, forgot to say hi! HI , how you doin man? i miss you so much :') yeah, Arc, Atrix, SGS 2 and Optimus 3D are all great phones, each one has it's own advantages. SGS2 holds on to the most powerful hardware but imo ui and design is not that cool but again, you can say it's up to each costumer weather they like it or not. Optimus 3D has a fantastic stereoscopic camera and the 3D screen with that 3D ui rocks really, normal design and ui imo. but the hardware is best after sgs2. Atrix has a powerful hardware and normal design and ui, dunno about it's camera so much. And the Arc... the best design no doubt, most customized ui (best imo) great camera considering the Exmore R sensor, but not as powerful as others in term of hardware. So hows life? :D
