If I were you... you should think HTC Desire HD instead of Desire because HTC Desire HD uses a newer QSD8255 snapdragon instead of the Desire's older QSD8250.
Xperia Arc would be nice as well, but since it's new, it may be more expensive.

Everyone has different preference.
Xperia Arc is still a decent phone.
It may not have dual processor, but it's a nice phone to have. At least it's not Symbian^3.
And yes, I do have Nokia phones. I have tried S60v3, S60v5, S^3, iOS4, and Android 2.2
