Mel, 20 Sep 2012What crack are you talking about?Try Google; you'll find plenty of people suffering from the issue, and pictures to boot. It's a well-documented issue around the world. Problem also includes the Arc and Xperia Arco (NTT Docomo's version of the Arc).

It shows up a few weeks after purchase from new. In my case, it took a week to show up (albeit near invisible). It's 8 weeks old now and it's definitely there, just isn't a 'open' crack yet.

Sony apparently is giving free fixes in most countries under warranty but the results of the fixes vary. Most people say the issue returns even with replacement housings, despite Sony saying (in most countries at least) they are using different material to construct the replacement housing. And there are a few people who report that the cracks don't return after the replacement. Then there are the lucky few who apparently don't get the cracks in the first place.

The only thing I can fault with this phone are the cracks near the proximity sensor. Some people have them despite taking it to the repair centre, it returns. Some don't see it return. And some are just lucky and don't get the cracks in the first place...

Sucks that another Sony flagship (the Xperia S) also has an issue, though more problematic with screens going bad.

Will I be returning to use a Sony on that fateful day when my Arc S dies? Probably, yes. Though I'll research a bit more before doing so.
