Having been accused of being biased against the Xperia X1, I thought I better try and balance the books a bit and note explicitly the areas where I think the Xperia is clearly ahead. These areas may in fact be the deal makers and deal breakers when it comes to choosing between the two.
Firstly, the hand feel of the Xperia is definitely better, due to the slimmer, thinner and lighter design which is more reminiscent of a candybar phone than the slightly more blocky Touch Pro.
Secondly, the all metal construction of the Xperia does speak more to quality than the all plastic construction of the Touch Pro.
800×480 at 3 inches clearly beats 640×480 at 2.8 inches, even if the software does not always take advantage of it.
The Xperia’s 3.5 mm headphone jack also clearly beats whatever the Touch Pro has to offer.
Buttons - again the Xperia has a plethora of them, including a camera button which makes taking a picture 3 times faster on the Xperia than on the Touch Pro.
Lets not forget the Xperia does VGA video recording while the Touch Pro only does piddling QVGA.
Phone reception - its close, but the Xperia is better at holding on to a signal than the Touch Pro.
Phone sound quality - the earphone is louder and clearer on the Xperia and the Touch Pro, with none of the “sweet spot” nonsense of the Touch Pro.
WIFI reception is definitely much better on the Xperia, with much better range than the Touch Pro.
Battery life - I think is good on both, but the Xperia has more mAh, and does seem to last longer than the Touch Pro.
More open development environment for their skins - Touchflo3D has no SDK (and badly needs it) while Panels, while it has less community support, is actually an open platform which anyone can develop for.
The last advantage the SE Xperia has over the HTC Touch Pro is in those two little letters - SE. Sony Ericsson is an established brand name, and when some-one sees the Xperia and see the little Sony Ericsson logo the device suddenly seems more familiar, accessible and desirable, and people who would not touch a Windows Mobile smartphone suddenly sees something they can actually work with.
mstL with more spam! Your sad mate, really really sad.
WM users have been able to use a keyboard via bluetooth technology for some FOUR years....
I have experienced the problem of poor reception, dropping calls, and Wifi.
and unfortunately I am not alone:
˝First day of real use in London has shown the reception to be very poor - on the train into London it dropped out most of the way (My S620 always has a good signal, my Athena usually an H but at least a G or E). Now in Lonon the number of bars is 1 - 2 most of the time and the data reception for a download / web page very slow. ˝
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970wtf r u on about u r a SE fanboy n wont admit xperia drops calls n windows is laggy n freezes n dont hear u admiting wifi dosen't work xperia is overated its crap for the price specially wen u c other models that can play QUAKE 3 n use a bluetooth FULLSIZE keyboard

Hi...Im from Malaysia.Xperia X1 users for about 3 days.low yat plaza at RM3,030, silver colour.
Overall performance...on par with HTC touch pro.But with great design n quality build.
Speaker Quality - Very bad ( shocked!)...(but iphone & HTC is bad too...so no need to worry guys)
Cons - no auto rotate sensor(weird!)
- even video recording at 30fps, but the quality is very bad (but i like record video in wide screen mode in x1)
- one more thing, base on spec sheet '3.0 inch',but the actual size is very small due too 480x800 res.so u will see that HTC touch pro screen is better than X1.but u will enjoy watching wide screen movie in this device...cool!
Conclusion : hmmmm.......i expect more from xperia X1 but a lil bit dissapointment.but i think xperia is a cute n handsome gadget off all. But, when HTC touch HD arrive in Malaysia...hehehehee....sendiri mau ingat...
Anonymous, 28 Nov 2008Unfortunately, you are correct. Reception is horrible. I guess it is due to the poor qualit... moreYou write nothing but nonsense. Xperia X1 reception is fine.As for HTC touch HD that device suffers from appalling battery life, not to mention the camera etc I'd much rather have SE doing the software than HTC..now buzz off
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Unfortunately, you are correct.
Reception is horrible.
I guess it is due to the poor quality of manufacturing.
What we can expect from HTC.
Probably, SE would be better of if they would manufacture their own product.
HTC smart they make their own competition. HTC HD is a big hit.
We' re quite a few users seriously missing a Symbian OS, a couple of hundreds of colors more on that amazing display, and a slightly better cam, at least: competitors are right behind, though!
Jiro Kanzaki, 28 Nov 2008Darn it! I should have bought silve one instead of the black one!Dear Jiro, what wrong with black color. Why do U say so? i wanted to know before buying one. Regards

Hare a news for XPERIA series "WoW"
faraz, 28 Nov 2008nothing outstanding in its class. just too expensive. not worth the moneyCare to explain why it's not worth the money??Its the best right now.
Darn it! I should have bought silve one instead of the black one!
I finally got hold of Xperia here in the Philippines and it is as impressive as most users say. The only "lag" or slowdown that I have experienced so far is when the panel view is shifting from one type or another; but it's very minimal and neglectible. Camera and video wise are decent for a smartphone - pretty much the same quality as my old N93. I have yet to test the wi-fi, 3g and all other features but so far so good!
sammy , 27 Nov 2008I got this phone. Everything is perfect except the font size is too small. Anyone knows any so... morelol you can change the font size by the phoe itself.
Go to Start>Setting>System>Sceen>Text Size
Have a nice day ^^ :D
x1 fan, 28 Nov 2008http://www.eseth.net/news/sonyericssonreviews/Sony_Ericsson_X1_Review_3.shtmlExcellent review x1 fan,,when i first typed on the key board i did not even think about it i just typed as if i had done it since i was born,,people will not believe the screen till they see it and colours are fantastic and s/e have made a superb job in using the colours..
What have other peole bought colour wise?? I wanted the silver one but they only had black in stock but really glad i got black now it shows up the screen even better..
I do want to be honest and i would put the xperia battery about 7.5 hrs rather than 10 hrs talktime..i go by using the device about the same as my n82 and its lasts "about" twice as long as my n82 which lasts 4hrs..I have got rid of both battery meters as i am convinced they are causing the battery life to shorten,,WHY,,well when i first got it i give it about 9.5hrs talktime in my initial report but since i added the meters its dropped even tho my battery is more broken in???I will get back if i honestly think the battery meters are causing problems...
My questions are can a rom update cure the RAM leakage to increase battery life and will s/e add equalisers and update their own media center to steady the video playback..Having to use WMA player to view a majority of vids which is no problem at all so it cannot be the xperia ..bye for now,,
