I tried this already...
"Sony Ericsson z550i help guides:
1.) You can set the songs in the MP3 as your ringtone just first go tofile manager then go to the sounds after that choose the song u want to set as a ringtone"
..But the selection is grey and wont let me select it. I can set it with a wave but it dosen't play that either.
The camera of this phone is pretty good and you can add frames to your picture (not like the other's comment that I hear). the design of the phone is nice too bec. the metal part of this phone protects your mobile phone not like Nokia phones when dropped they usually get broken. and my phone sony ericsson z550i comes with all the features I want for a mobile phone!
Downloadable games here:
1.) First go to google.com
2.) then type "Sony Ericsson Z550i games" there you can download lot of games plus you even download your software, themes, wallpapers, etc. in that sight.

How can I use mp3 as a ringtune? I bought the data cable, but it won't let me use it as a ringtune. Do I need software or is my phone locked? Please help!!
I have been using this phone for over a year now, and I have to say that it's never let me down, except for the camera. I'll get back to that in a bit.
With the phone comes a Sony M2 64MB memory card, which was a nice surprise.
The phone's ringer is quite loud, enough to alert you for a call every time.
The headset supplied with the phone is very good. If you turn the volume all the way up, it's very loud, enough for you to enjoy music 'properly'.
Overall, the menus, contacts and media files are opened very quickly. It's not like Nokia phones at all, which take ages to open a simple contact list (even the new N-series ones). The phone is very quick and responsive. I've even played trance tracks in the media player that are 2 hours long, but it still plays them fine and forwards/rewinds them properly as well. So there's no problem with the software being slow.
One thing I did notice is that when I set a profile picture for my friends, everytime they called it took about 1-2 seconds to load the picture after I opened the phone. I didn't like that so I removed profile pictures.
Now we come to the camera. The camera in this phone has the most abysmal and useless quality I have ever seen. I am NOT exaggerating. There is a bad camera phone, then there is a VERY bad camera phone, then there is the Z550 camera, which is a bad joke. Unless you are shooting in very bright sunlight or in a very well lit room, the picture will be very, VERY grainy (picture noise), sometimes so much so that it is hard for others to tell what you were shooting.
Fortunately for me, the camera was not my primary concern when buying it, so I was still happy with the other features, but if you are buying the phone ONLY because of it's camera then DON'T!! The camera is not good at all anytime after sunset :)
Thought I'd mention what I did want out of this phone. I wanted to get myself a decent phone which would also double as an mp3 player, and that is what I use this phone for. I am using a 1GB M2 memory card with it for storing music etc, and it suits me just fine.
Feel free to contact me if you need to know additional details, but PLEASE do me a favour and use the following subject line:

I'm actually disappointed in this phone for 2 reasons:
1)Ridiculous sms limit at around 180 messages despite the fact that they take so little space. I keep getting this annoying warning telling me that I'm over 95% of my sms limit and I constantly have to delete messages to make way for new. I had 900 sms messages on my old Nokia phone and not once did I have to delete anything.
2)Can't zoom into pictures AFTER you take them - which was handy feature in my old Nokia phone.
That said I admire the phone build and the amazing battery life. Also the interface is quite nice.
I am also user of z550i
but actually ,when the my song is playing it
can u give me some idea why this is happining????????

i bought this phone One year back, No doubt its still perfect without any problems. I liked it most. But only one thing i have to say is just it cannot play .rm files. Can u solve my problem which plays real files.
I bought this phone 6 months back. Its design and software Interface is the best. Camera is average with no flash, very good during daytime, but bad under dull light. But its still better than Nokia's 1.3MP cameras. Battery life is unbelievable. the only problem is that memory card is costly.
Just after i bought this phone i went camping and a big flood came over the tent, the phone was underwater and mud for 2 hrs, i dried it for 3-4 days and then it worked perfectly, without any problem...and the metal case can protect it more than a plastic case so i think its a great phone!
I bought this phone about a year ago and its still going great.
Battery life is exceptional. I usually have to charge it every 3 - 5 days (i have it on 24 hours a day).
I find the sound great - its not quite (like some reviews have mentioned). The two little silver buttons on the side make the volume go up or down - when its full its very loud. Mp3 quality is great - of course this all depends on the quality of the acutal mp3 file. The radio reception is great. You do need to plug in the hand's free (it acts as the arial) but you can put it on speaker. It is very easy to go through stations.
Camera is good. Its only a 1mp - but you cant expect more than that for the cost of this phone. You can dress up the photos with fancy frames (choose a frame, a cartoon and take a picture of a person's head to go in the space!) it makes hilarious results! :)
This phone is definatly worth the money. I only paid $199, and i've seen it for under $150 now!.
i use this phones since 1 year ago.no trouble,no hung,no restart...this is perfect software than nokia have..sonyericsson go ahead!!
People, I really need to know from you,
1. the MAXIMUM inbox-capacity for SMS and the total stored messages capacity - if they are unlimiteed or limited to what numbers
2. whether you can save the sms msgs to a PC via bluetooth or otherwise using pc-suite
3. is there a bundled wired handsfree within the box
4. can you zoom on in pictures saved to memory
I'm seriously considering buying this one. Please help.
