AlexP, 21 Apr 2019In this case, if LG made first 4k OLED display. So what LG phone has this display????????? May... moreActualy it is said to be a Samsung display...
Wonder what Samsung Mate and revs will "conclude" this time.
Or will it be the usual "We measured this and that, its a great screen, but still cant beat S10s amole"
"..... oh, wait. 404 checksum error"
Anyways, From next year expect japanese Joled screens on oled Sony phones, as them are starting mass production.

A first of its kind mobile screen of native 1 billion color gamut.
Extraordinary.
And it is quite a noticable difference to all the rest common 8bit oled screens.
Sony really made a gem here.
Tann Hauser, 20 Apr 2019Yeah, well, that may be true, but LG cant make the X1 mobile chip that enables this 10 bit qua... moreThe Sony Xperia 1 has a 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing display, (or a 10-bit equivalent display) that Sony says can display a myriad of colours without banding…. The 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing display, commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering).
This is a way of turning the 16.7 million colors from an 8-bit panel into the 1.07 billion colors that a true native 10-bit panel can display. 8+2 FRC uses various algorithms that flash 2 color tones very rapidly, thus giving the perceived impression of a third color that really isn’t there. This may sound like some sort of sneaky parlour trick, but almost all of the major panel manufacturers are now doing this. Atomos, SmallHD, Flanders, and even your 5K iMac display are all 8+2 FRC displays. 8+2 FRC panels are considerably cheaper to manufacturer than a true native 10-bit display.
The good news here is in reality, 8+2 FRC panels are almost impossible to distinguish from true 10-bit native panels. The only small difference is when it comes to viewing material that was shot in low light conditions at higher ISO values. On an 8+2 FRC display, the image will appear to show more noise than what an actual native 10-bit display will.

Interesting, Sony Xperia 1 has.... Really stupid argument you have

Stop lying troll.
You purchase an oled screen, you get screen with a pin connector, nothing else, no any chips with it of any kind.
Anonymous, 21 Apr 2019Bionz of Sony mirrorless cameras is hardware.
Bionz for Xperia is software.
X1 Extreme /U... moreWell of course a mobile engine is software, but software allocated to some chip for processing... if not a dedicated one, then allocated to hexagon or spectra of SD 855, just like BionzX. Its hardware+software anyway you turn it, and is definitely not an emulation of any sort.
And Sony makes their own 4k X1 chips, not any LG or other...
so stop the crap.
RockStar2005, 20 Apr 2019Not sure what you're talking about. The Xperia 1 has been CONFIRMED to have OIS on 2 of its 3 ... moreBut I was talking about xz3 and mate 20, not xperia 1. And about eye tracking, it's useless if still sony doesn't have touch focus on recording videos. In 1080p, you have to enable object tracking for that. And you don't have object tracking on 4k recording, so you don't have a touch focus.
A smart Shooter, 18 Apr 2019You don't even go and see the Gsmarena's camera comparison Charts for XZ3, why should I waste ... moreNope. Old cheap motoG has higher dxo score than xz3.
Tann Hauser, 20 Apr 2019X1 chip made by LG...?, . hmmmm Sould I report this pthetic try on trolling? I dont know..... moreSony doesn't make OLED displays for Smartphones or Tv. Smartphone and TV OLED screens are supplied by LG. This includes the technology and additional hardware. Sony then tweaks it software to suit. So, in fact, the first 4k OLED screen is made by LG and purchased by Sony. Surely, you must be a Sony rep here to constantly lie and promote Sony without any evidence.

It jas nothing with money to do in-house stuff. This is not their focus.
They do not make RAM memory, storage etc ...
Battery is Sony, lenses on cameras are in-house too ...
Other companies buy storage, ram, sensors (cam, fingerprint scanner, laser AF, ), lenses, body components etc ....
None of them have even 50% of in-house stuff.

Bionz for Xperia is software.
X1 Extreme /Ultimate are hardware for Sony TVs
X1 for Xperia 1 is software.
There is no space for hardware versions of Bionz and X1 Extreme inside a phone. Not easy to make a small mobile version of them.
Probably next MWC , JDi may be able to suppy oled for Sony Mobile. But dont expect STE oled. It is very expensive tech. Not even Bravia have it.
Great news is that they already have TV sized screens of Crystal LED. Contrast is same 1 million of oled, can be brighter and no burn in ....

The Xperia 1 has been CONFIRMED to have OIS on 2 of its 3 main camera lenses.............the main/wide lens and the telephoto one ARE CONFIRMED to have OIS as well as EIS. It's only the ultra-wide lens that doesn't have it, which I'm fine with I guess.
On top of that, it has several features which have been shared by their luxury line dept, Alpha, including Eye AF, Auto-Exposure, etc.

Please do your research before lying here. You should know that only one single part of this phone is made by Sony and that's the camera sensor. Sony outsources every other part to numerous other companies. Sony just doesn't have the necessary R&R these days.

In low light, Sony captured a picture with 1\8 shutter speed. Actually, you can't take a picture in that speed in real world. Because this phone doesn't have OIS and everything that is moving gets blurry. While Huawei got that in 1/26 and nothing gets blurry. Plus, Sony is over-sharpening but Huawei is not. You can see artifacts easily on sony, especially in low light, but there is no sign of that in Huawei.
Anonymous, 20 Apr 2019That Oled screen is made by LG from South.Korea....Sony can't make Oled screens....Yeah, well, that may be true, but LG cant make the X1 mobile chip that enables this 10 bit quality on its OLED screens.
All Sony gets from LG is basic oled screen substrate, all additional enhancements are compliments of Sony tech.

Plus Sony has always been BETTER than Samsung when it comes to displaying color accuracy. Samsung tends to veer towards "warmer color tones", while Sony doesn't.
Man I dunno about you, but I'm getting RESTLESS waiting for the 1 to be released. WTF?!!
RockStar2005, 20 Apr 2019Hell yeah!! The 1 looks the best for sure!!!!Well yeah. No 8bit screen with software 10 bit support only can beat actual 10bit screen with native 10bit support. And all that in 4k too.
SamsungMate already made "a disclaimer" about Xperia 1 screen in their S10 screen marketing, even before the device is out.
Read this:
"As a result, for Smartphones it is absolutely pointless to further increase the display resolution and pixels per inch (ppi) up to 4K (3940x2160 pixels) for a silly marketing wild goose chase into the stratosphere, with no visual benefit for humans!"
So obviously, without any further adue, sponsored revs are already ready to trash Xperias 1 screen...
But there it is, real side by side view, and there is no doubt about it... Xperia 1 is just a level up.
