Sony Xperia 10 IV in for review

The Sony Xperia 10 IV is official and it's here with us at the office. It's next in line for review, but in the meantime let's do an unboxing.

The Xperia 10 IV comes without a charger, or even a cable this year. But hey, it's all for the environment, right!

Sony has been very traditional with its phone releases. The latest Xperia 1 and 10 series phones clearly let their DNA shine through. They have 21:9 aspect displays, a 3.5mm headphone jacks and triple cameras. As such, the Xperia 10 IV is a chip off the old Xperia 10 III block. But that doesn't make it bad, nor does it mean that Sony hasn't made it better.

There are a couple of major updates from the Xperia 10 III to the IV. The Triluminos OLED display retains the 6.0-inch diagonal and 2520x1080px resolution, but is brighter than before.

The screen is also covered by Gorilla Glass Victus. The body itself is fully plastic and flatter this year. Sony has managed to shave off 1mm from each side, which is quite impressive given the increase in battery capacity.

The camera setup, much like the display, is an improved version of what the Xperia 10 III had. You get the same 12MP wide camera, 8MP 2x telephoto, and 8MP ultrawide, but the main camera is now optically-stabilized. Sony has tweaked the Superior Auto mode for better results and there's AutoHDR. There's no 4K video recording, though, which was present on the Xperia 10 III.

The chipset is the Snapdragon 695, which is a 6nm SoC, compared to the 8nm Snapdragon 690 of the Xperia 10 III. Coupled with the 10% increase in battery size to 5,000mAh, the Xperia 10 IV should last a bit longer than its predecessor.
