Anonymous, 17 Apr 2020No what I am saying is you can't have everything, as in everything in this life. Since globali... moreYou can have better at cheaper prices.
Chinese companies proved it in the budget and mid range segment where companies like Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony etc lost marketshare rapidly. Thereby forcing manufacturers like Samsung to put improved HW in their budget, mid range segment.
Chinese phones just have lower profit margins compared to American/Korean brands.
IPhone extracts the biggest profit margins out of all brands.
Sony has higher profit margins compared to Chinese flagships.
Sony didn't make lot of overall profit not coz their profit margins were high, its coz they sold less phones.
I already explained how all companies Chinese or otherwise use same quality components.
They lasting less compared to other brands is simply a fantasy of yours which doesn't hold in the real world.
You probably are influenced by your social circle where other ppl look down upon Chinese phones but will happily buy overpriced junk from American companies.
SLSAHXOHVOMVN, 17 Apr 2020You simply can't be convinced coz in your head, Chinese = bad, cheap quality phones. Sony =... moreJust a note, but I think that you will find there is more to a phone than gorilla glass and Snapdragon.
SLSAHXOHVOMVN, 17 Apr 2020You simply can't be convinced coz in your head, Chinese = bad, cheap quality phones. Sony =... moreNo what I am saying is you can't have everything, as in everything in this life. Since globalization the prices are similar. So you can't have cheaper and better in such a contested market. And don't tell me it is because Sony take more of a profit because we know sonys mobile division is not making money. You seem to believe that Chinese phones are somehow exempt from the laws that govern price and quality. Again Chinese phones other good specs for a cheaper price but the components are not of such a high quality so in most cases will break sooner. Surely you can see the logic in this
Anonymous, 17 Apr 2020So basically you are saying that Chinese phones are better in every single way and still make ... moreYou simply can't be convinced coz in your head,
Chinese = bad, cheap quality phones.
Sony = Japanese = better.
As far as specs go, most of these components have same hardware.
Gorilla glass is standard across all phones Chinese or otherwise.
Snapdragon chipset with 5g modem is same across all phones, Chinese or otherwise.
IP68 on Chinese phones will be same as any other.
Again no one cares about your anecdotal evidence, plenty of ppl using Chinese phones for years without a single fault. They changed phones every 2-3 years because they could, not because their phone died.
Besides phones from more than 3 years back have outdated design, weaker fast charging tech, weaker processor, weaker connectivity (lack of 5g, Bluetooth 5.1,etc.) so ppl choose to upgrade.
Hello guys , is there a phone with a better camera than this ? Im looking for a phone to help me out when i dont have my dslr with me .
Ps : I've already checked out p40pro and s20 ultra so don't mention them since they are gimmick.
SLSAHXOHVOMVN, 17 Apr 2020Sony uses Quick charge or USB Power Delivery system which is inferior to proprietary Chinese f... moreSo basically you are saying that Chinese phones are better in every single way and still make a profit and cheaper phones. I have no problem with Chinese phones they are cheaper, they have good specs. And if you plan to change your phone every 2 years that's fine. But don't try to convince me that they are of a higher quality material and more advanced. One of the reasons I buy Sony is because I can change the phone when I want to, not because it has suddenly died. I still have an Xperia s that works perfectly and the xz premium hasn't had a single fault.
Anonymous, 17 Apr 2020You won't find many tests of 3 year charges. All you will find is some posts from people telli... moreSony uses Quick charge or USB Power Delivery system which is inferior to proprietary Chinese fast charging tech.
While companies like Oppo/OnePlus use VOOC.
Two different fast charging technologies which operate on different principles.
Sony phones will heat up too much or drop the charging rate due excessive heat when gaming or content consumption. No such problems with VOOC.
Sony will heat up too much with fast charging coz of higher voltage, no such problems on VOOC and others since, voltage is kept low along with temperatures.
Bigger batteries with more charging cycles despite faster Watt charging.
While Sony using regular Li-pro which gives maximum 300-400 charge cycles along with weaker fast charging and smaller capacity battery. The other guy who claims Sony giving 1500 cycles before battery degradation starts kicking in is completely delusional.
Telephone, 17 Apr 2020Don't say anything if you don't know what what you're talking about.
Fast charge and ultra fa... more1500 charge cycles? LOL, Xperia 1 II using Li-Po not Li-ion. Can't believe you wrote all that garbage without knowing facts about your favorite phones. So, Plz take your lies somewhere else.
Xiaomi giving Bigger batteries with more charging cycles despite faster Watt charging.
While Sony using regular Li-pro which gives maximum 300-400 charge cycles along with weaker fast charging and smaller capacity battery.
I have no problem with Chinese phones, they have good specs but are made of inferior quality (except certain makes, which cost similar to Sony, Samsung etc.), that is just the way it is. They will do a good job but for a shorter time. If you plan to change after 2 years then they are the perfect choice. However please don't try to convince me that they are made of a higher quality than Sony. I buy Sony because it allows me to change phones when I decide to, not because one day it won't work. Even my Xperia s still works perfectly well. If a little slow
SLSAHXOHVOMVN, 17 Apr 2020Please provide evidence for your claims that Sony with 18W charging will degrade slower compar... moreYou won't find many tests of 3 year charges. All you will find is some posts from people telling you how their Chinese cheap phone is 5 years old at still working. However the 80% or 90% who's phone has either died or needs a new battery will not post anything. Because they understand that cheaper material lasts less time in almost all cases. It is obvious. Drive a car at maximum rpm all the time and generally speaking it will break before the same car being driven conservatively. The same with batteries. And the same with materials.
[deleted post]Please provide evidence for your claims that Sony with 18W charging will degrade slower compared to Chinese flagships with faster Charging.
And I don't want therotical garbage, I want real world tests conducted where they pit Sony flagship with their outdated 18W charging against Chinese flagships, with their faster charging and their results over a period of time 2-3 years.
Don't you dare bringing in anecdotal evidence for your reply.
Telephone, 17 Apr 2020Don't say anything if you don't know what what you're talking about.
Fast charge and ultra fa... moreNormal Heat is generated during charging every phone. Battery degradation accelerates faster only when there is excessive heat generated. The biggest assumption made by idio*
like you, is that excess heat is generated by Chinese fast charging technology when in reality, all that heat is kept in check.
All the tech like Oppo with 65W splitting into two different batteries, etc is done to minimize heat. OnePlus warp charger localizing heat at the adaptor, etc. Added cooling on Nubia and Black Shark phones, 5-10 different levels of sophisticated battery health protection modes, etc are available on Chinese phones. These things are above the expertise of Sony. Hence they stick to weak 18W -21W fast charging.
You are making assumptions that excess heat is generated with 30W and above fast charging when in reality it's the Same amount of heat generated by Sony with 18W charging, even less heat than that in many cases. On top of that being equipped with more charge cycles per battery puts it ahead of regular batteries from Sony.
Also, Bigger battery prolongs battery health since 4000mah batteries will obviously need to be charged more number of times compared to 5000mAh-6000mah batteries as they are getting empty faster. Thereby increasing charge cycles and increasing battery degradation over time. Now I know you'll talk about battery efficiency of Sony despite its smaller sized battery but in reality, All battery endurance ratings are dominated by Chinese phones.
Nick.B, 17 Apr 2020If I pay 1200 eur I need top features. I might not need it and use it, but when 900$ oneplus 8... moreYou didn't even answer my question. But I understand what you wanted to say. Because of where you live, the combination of your region's satellites and the high population leads to slower connection and higher inaccuracy. (single band GPS) The Dual band GPS would be best choice for you. The problem, Xperia 1 II either doesn't have it, or there is a possibility that certain regions will have it and some won't. (most likely not) I've checked around Sony and it said in the location spec that it can vary on region. (since different parts of the world uses different satellites in the orbit)
Here is my advice for you. Always think about how a certain tech would be beneficial to your life. Whether it is work, school, everyday life, vacations etc. How would having the better tech add real life practicality? Does it just feel better to you to have dual band GPS when others don't? Think about it. I know you are trying to consider the Xperia 1 II as your next potential phone upgrade. So just take your time, spend your money on what makes you happy everyday.
Is this phone capable of fhd 960 slo mo?
AlexP, 17 Apr 2020Very good explanation, even kid will understand. I don't why trolls can't
I wish other brands... moreYes, I agree. I wish companies can add software charging speed switches.
Right now the only way to limit charging speed is by using a weaker charger. (such as 18w)
Once software switches are part on the android system, I would love to have the capability to Ultra fast charge. Its nice when you need it. But most of the time I don't need it (I charge the phone before I sleep all the time) My Xperia 1 has over 45-65% battery left by the time I go to bed everyday.
SLSAHXOHVOMVN, 17 Apr 2020Lol Sony using old school fast charging technology. It's nowhere close to being a pioneer in f... moreDon't say anything if you don't know what what you're talking about.
Fast charge and ultra fast charging has been around for over a decade.
(also remember, in the late 90s, early 2000s, Sony manufactured Li-ion batteries. Made in Japan in fact) Sony knows more about Li-ion than all those Chinese brands. Even Apple has poor battery management.
Its the company's decision to determine whether its better to sacrifice battery longevity over battery performance (charging and discharging)
Also YOU don't know nothing about Li-ion battery chemistry. If you know the specific chemistry, then tell me. They are just using a GENERIC high discharge Lithium Polymer. You wont ever find LiFePo4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) in a cellphone. (Prismatic version encased in plastic bricks) (its my favorite Li-ion chemistry) 1500+ cycles, low internal resistance, and High discharge rates.
Bigger capacity doesn't mean less degradation. Its Proportional to the capacity.
Sony limited the charge rate to 1C to minimize degradation. So even if the other phones used a better chemistry claiming it can take more cycles. It wont make a difference if it degrades at a higher rate. Ultra fast charging is just going to KILL the battery.
@SLSAHXOHVOMVN Read this and tell me what you think.

Other companies don't care about longevity. They just want you to buy a new phone ASAP.
Tann Hauser, 17 Apr 2020Yes, rightsided on top bezel.
Xperia 1 has notif.LED, quote gsmarena review: The top black strip contains the earpiece, which also doubles as a speaker. On its left Sony has placed all other essentials - the well-hidden tri-color (R,G,W) notification LED, a bunch of sensors, and the 8MP selfie camera.
But it is too early to confirm for Xperia 1 mark 2 I looked google, sony website, and else. No word for now. It is logical to have it kept from xperia 1, but untill I see a video photo or sony website or review confirming I don't believe 100%
Nick.B, 17 Apr 2020Notification LED available?Yes, rightsided on top bezel.
Hands on report....
screens 90 hz eqivalent and 120 hz touch response working just as promised.
sound output both by speakers and headphones improved as to Xperia 1.
DSEE Ultimate hi res sound upscale indeed covering anything that streams from web or plays from files.
Notification LED available?
