People keep hating sony phones when in reality they are one of the best out there
the only drawbacks of this phone are the price and selfie camera....it`s the same as on the xperia 1, which was mediocre...at1200 euros... too much. 750 euros would be a fair price
Takoyaki, 12 Jul 2020This phone is overpriced and worse than the other flagships. So.. dont buy it.All phones are overpriced in 2020. So, every flagship is worse
Takoyaki, 12 Jul 2020This phone is overpriced and worse than the other flagships. So.. dont buy it.The phone has a purpose. To give you an all round experience especially in camera soo it may feel overpriced to you but not to people who know it's worth
AnonD-731363, 12 Jul 2020Man base OS maybe but if you want to run complex apps or games your optimization goes to hell ... moreWow so you will be using complex apps and games(seriously what is that). Because 99.99% people who purchase any kind of smartphone let it Apple or Android let it cost $150 or $1500 they will be using regular apps and games. So for 99.99% of the people phone being well optimized do matter to get best user experience out of the phone. That is the reason all the big brands spend huge amount of resources refining their OS as much as possible. Why do you think people like Apple iPhone performance over time even-though the hardware going in is not that great compared to Android counterparts because iOS is optimized to utilize and work consuming comparatively low resources and work smoothly over longer period of time.

This is the difference between $800 phone with 8GB memory and $1200 phone with 8GB memory. This shows how well SONY OS is optimized.
[deleted post]He doesn't know how well optimized device works and why SD Cards exist or were invented in the first place. If a person is capable of using up whole 256GB then there is nothing stopping him from using up 512GB. Eventually he will have to drop in Micro SD Card for storage.
[deleted post]Oh right for people like you who like over saturated unnatural looking screen would definitely hate spot-on most natural looking SONY screen. You may even say SAMSUNG has better picture quality over SONY in TVs.
1100 bucks for a low end flagship funny.
Other much cheaper flagships for half price have much more ram disk space better battery, battery life, charging capabilities and much powerfull camera.
Sony is really out of mind if they think this will sell.
Only japanese sheeps will buy this because in Japan there is almost no other brand to sell their much better devices such as Xiaomi, Realme or Nubia.

closest thing sony currently offer to what qualia experience was back in 2004. qualia was pretty cool, hope they'll release that kind of boutique high end again in the future
The comment section of Xperia 1 II has been a merry go round for infinite loops with fights and floods of debates that never end, from battery life, UFS gen. storage, cameras, 21:9 aspect ratio, 4K screen, High Refresh Rate, color reproduction, target markets, fast charging rate, naming scheme, design, and now audio... I am amused yet perplexed... What's next? Dynamic Vibration System? FM Radio? GPS? Sensors & Actuators? Android 11 update? My goodness...
Tann Hauser, 11 Jul 2020Thats quite a visible difference in quality. Xperias screen is just top of the crop there. ... moreYeah but to be honest XPERIA 1 II Display was in Vivid mode or in Cool mode. If set to Neutral it will become more crazy to compare the color accuracy and nothing beats SONY in that.

Btw, why is OP8 Pro screen worse in dynamic range at same brightness? I thought it was 10 bit too, like Xperia.
Whats with that?
Vineet Reddy, 11 Jul 2020For a decade or two SONY have been making only two kinds of headphones. The Monitors which are... moreno. for the last 4 decades, sony have been produced 3 kind of headphones. studio monitor, audiophile, and mainstream consumer. for years they studio monitors have been japan industry standard in recording along with elega headphones. in audiophile section they compete with stax which is industry standard for audiophile level headphone which is not very successful story for sony back then, compete with yamaha, fostex, stax and a bunch of japanese giants, and some european brands. again we're talking 1970-1990 here, back then people bought speakers so it's niche market in the first place. those two kind of headphones most of the times only available in japan, rarely sold in international market. they do sold some of the studio monitors for international market but they changed the name and alter the sound for international market, that's why there are always japan version and international version on most of the sony high performance headphones. the third one, the lowest of the lowest, mainstream consumer, that's the one they sold on international markets, that's why when you thinking of sony headphone. crap is always the first thought come in mind.
in 1990s they picked themselves up and focus on audiophile market. that's when they produced r10, problem is it's super expensive. that thing cost $4000 back in the 90s. they discounted that to $2000 to sell all of the r10 inventory, especially with asian financial crisis back in 1998, selling was super slow, it took them almost a decade to sell off all their inventory. and then in earlier 2000 they launched qualia, their boutique high-end brand, they released qualia 010 for headphone product, cost $2500 back in 2004. and same thing repeat, slow sell, they discontinued that qualia brand in 2006. that's when sony left the audiophile market. only focus on re-release some of their popular studio monitor and a bunch of their consumer market crap. until in 2016/2017 they decided to back to the audiophile market with the release of z1r
that's pretty much the history of sony headphones journey. so if you really want to look for decent headphones made by sony, look at their vintage studio monitors, if you really have money look for r10 and qualia. last time i check r10 cost like $8000 two years ago in secondhand market, qualia around $7000. good luck
Fearghast, 11 Jul 2020No I am not joking, Sony has nothing to offer when you want decent headphones - Beyern, AT or ... moreFor a decade or two SONY have been making only two kinds of headphones. The Monitors which are for Detailed and Accurate Listening experience. Then there is mainstream Consumer Headphones which are not extremely detailed and accurate as they are created for laid back listening. Yes not all are good but which are good are way better than their competition for what they do. For example MDR-Z1R and MDR-Z7 M2 are really good for what they do. They are great for laid back listening. If budget is limited and one is unable to purchase Focal Elegia the second best thing is MDR-Z7 M2. ATH-DT1770 Pro is really harsh detailed but harsh and not suitable at all for Laid back listening. ATH-A2000Z again not for laid back experience but are really good but then treble laid-off where details gets clipped killed the experience for me.
Fearghast, 11 Jul 2020No I am not joking, Sony has nothing to offer when you want decent headphones - Beyern, AT or ... moreyou can't compare focal utopia with beyer dt since they cost 4x much? then how the hell you can compare r10/qualia with beyer dt then? focal utopia looks super cheap compare to r10 and qualia. again do little bit of googling. it's not that hard.
my point is, sony do have decent headphones problem is most of the time they are expensive. you solely judging sony products based on some massed produce crap of sony. that's like saying all focal headphone is crap since focal spirit is utter crap. do you understand that analogy?
Anonymous, 11 Jul 2020clearly you have no idea what you talking about. sure you can buy better headphone like stax, ... moreNo I am not joking, Sony has nothing to offer when you want decent headphones - Beyern, AT or Fostex do provide much better sound.
You can't really compare Focal to Beyern DT's sice they cost more than 4 times as much.
I look for price/value and Sony headphones? ... nope. Well unless you count Sony MH1C and other "made by accident".
Fearghast, 11 Jul 2020TBH you can buch much better headphones for that price thx to brands like Sennheiser, Fostex, ... moreIt all depends on what you are looking for. For example there nothing better than SONY MDR-7520 till almost more than thrice its price that can even come near to it in comparison for what it does. MDR-7520 is not for regular laid back listening experience it is for detailed lossless Audiophile and Monitoring experience. What MDR-7250 does for $300 price before it was sadly discontinued is that is gives loss-less details most natural and neutral sounding no coloration throughout the frequency range Perfectly detailed Low-end with enough punch to bring up its presence of power. Mid-range the perfect spot-on detailed loss-less mids not laid back at all. Treble is extremely detailed up there and yet not harsh as it has to be without being rolled-off as other headphones suffer. Sound-stage for being a closed-back it has very good uninturupted sound stage which is better than many low end closed-back headphones and when it comes to Imaging it is perfect spot-on I mean it was made to do that and it does that in a class of its own. That is what SONY MDR-7520 is would I pick it up for laid back listening experience definitely not though MDR-7520 is not bad for it there is better option if spending $700 I would get Focal Elegia which is very detailed as well(not as much as MDR-7520) and has a bit held back on treble and has smooth roll-off making it smoother to listen if not extremely accurate. Sennheiser HD650($300) and HD660S($400) are good for mid range but the treble is lacking detail and is rolled off to make them less harsh over time and bass is also good but punch is missing instead we get bass slap. Sound Stage HD660S for being open-back is narrow and little wider than MDR-7520 but 7520 still beats HD660S for accurate imaging where HD660S is considered very highly for Imaging. There are others like ATH-DT1990 Pro($500) and at low end ATH-MSR7b($200) which are great for what they at that specific price point.
