Smithravi, 06 Jun 2020"I'm surprised at how much I've enjoyed using this Xperia—so much so that I didn't want to swi... moreActually, I saw someone say that the screen only runs at 1096x2560, less than QHD. 4K is only supported on a small amount of apps. If you're paying $1200 for this phone, you should be getting that 643 pixels per inch. If it's to save battery, Sony shouldn't sell 4K phones to begin with. I thought the S20 Ultra was bad with QHD 60hz or FHD 120hz, but this is another level. If you aren't getting 4K support on your app, you will only get 428ppi at FHD+. It would be nice to have a QHD+ 120hz trade, but we don't.
Honestly I'm not sure what is worse, Apple sheep or the diehard Sony fans I see here.
TheGoldenMellifluous, 09 Jun 2020Sony wouldn't have adopted a 21:9 aspect ratio on their smartphones if 21:9 isn't standard and... moreNOKIA was the first to launch 21:9 aspect ratio into phone. Long before smartphones existed.
Rahul Soneji, 08 Jun 2020I really don't understand why Sony is adamant on using 21:9 aspect ratio of the screen.. Here ... moreSony wouldn't have adopted a 21:9 aspect ratio on their smartphones if 21:9 isn't standard and didn't adopt by their entertainment division, Sony Pictures for such a long time. Yet, 21:9 is a few common aspect ratios found in the industry alongside 4:3, 16:9 (there are few others like 1:1 and 3:2, but those three are most seen now), and Sony Pictures has been using since. Especially when Sony has deep roots as multimedia expertise, so seeing the Cinemascope aspect ratio in phones brought from other divisions should be expected... Sure, Sony wasn't the first to bring 21:9 to the smartphone industry but did make a wider impact on making 21:9 even more popular on the smartphone landscape.
And you weren't aware some OEMs are adopting 20:9, like OnePlus and Samsung? That's even closer to 21:9... Not surprise if 21:9 is a common thing in the next 1-2 years... Something Sony is ahead of the curve...
Rahul Soneji, 08 Jun 2020I really don't understand why Sony is adamant on using 21:9 aspect ratio of the screen.. Here ... moreIf you want to use the entire screen without zoom or bars you either buy a 16:9 for YouTube and general TV programs or 21:9 for movies and most Netflix original series.
Any other formats are not the correct aspect ratio (except the now disfunct 4:3). It is true that the in-between aspects let you have less vertical or horizontal bars or less loss due to zoom depending on what you see. Rather than Sony becoming history it is more likely that 21:9 will be the most used ratio very soon
Rahul Soneji, 08 Jun 2020I really don't understand why Sony is adamant on using 21:9 aspect ratio of the screen.. Here ... morewell sony will never be history , that company is so massive that they somehow dont much compete with mobile phones

Now u say 120 hz drains batery live.
I know you'll change your mind again
I really don't understand why Sony is adamant on using 21:9 aspect ratio of the screen.. Here amazon prime doesn't support 19:9 ratio by default.. Also screen looks so slim in viewing.. If Sony wants to experiment thn do it on one or two model.. Also prices are too high.. Sony will become history if they don't adopt with the market condition..
Senseurheart Kimochi, 08 Jun 2020IMO the 120hz and higher refresh rate are gimmick because it is a battery hog. The 120hz high ... moreYou clearly have no experience with 60+Hz on a display.
+ I do believe that 60+ on a phone is pretty much useless for its use case.
++ You can switch 60->90->120->144 (or sync in some cases) on a 144Hz screen, you can't do that on 60Hz screen -> lack of user choice.
Do not be narrow minded, we both think it's useless, others might disagree and "enjoy" content 60+Hz on a phone.
There is no 60+ on Xperia 1 II because Sonys priority is a useless 4K braging right ... not a user choice.
+++ Interpolation introduces visual artefacts in some cases (scrolling on dynamic content).
Fearghast, 08 Mar 2020It's gimmick because it's "interpolated" 90Hz.IMO the 120hz and higher refresh rate are gimmick because it is a battery hog. The 120hz high refresh rate doesn't makes image quality better because the motion "appears and dissappear" faster than you wink, therefore you can't see anything different in evident. Gaming with 120hz high refresh rate display would exhausted the battery even more faster, therefore recharge more often, in the end the battery degrade faster. The competitors plan to ads 120hz high refresh rate a great but that's has a drawback is the reduction on battery endurance.
The Motion blur reduction technology from Sony is a good solution it keeping the nice and well-balanced between battery endurance and motion objects.
Anonymous, 08 Jun 2020No issues for updates, but no 5g either. probably best to import from Asia or EuropeYeah not all are 5G enabled. It depends on from which site he will be ordering. If he waits longer there is a possibility of getting cheaper International version from Amazon which will be 5G enabled but no US Warranty which in any case will be void.

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2020I have a question I have a sony Xperia xa ultra there were an option in music app 9 months ... moreIf I'm not wrong, the updates from around a few months ago removed the option downloading the metadata of music information from Sony Music app due to reasons in a certain firmware, and one of them is Sony's downsizing on Sony proprietary apps reliance and development on Xperia since 2017 due Mobile's loss, starting from TrackID to most recent, Album, Video, and Music, as Sony Mobile division on Sweden where Sony Ericsson used to be, has closed and merge with Sony Nordic in 2019. So, the metadata's no longer there. You could revert to older version if you want.
This sensor is HUUUGE! I'm glad they went with the 12MP as main, rather than 108 or 64. I can't wait go get my hands on it.
I have a question
I have a sony Xperia xa ultra
there were an option in music app 9 months ago and it was downloading music's information but bow I can't find it way ?
Anonymous, 21 Mar 2020When will sony stop making ugy phone?they wont stop making beautiful phone like you will never have the sense of beauty.
the notch/punchhole-less display and 3.5mm jack is enough to justify the awesomeness of this phone.
saved, 06 Jun 2020A typical 4k TV has full RGB resolution of 2160*3840*3 (each pixel has 3 subpixels, Red, Green... moreOLED is preferred by most discerning consumers, that's why the industry is gravitating towards it. Those numbers you cited amount to nothing in practical use. People obviously don't notice it. What they DO notice is that OLED displays offer indisputably better contrast and genuine black. That's why people prefer it. I resent disingenuous marketing, but the displays speak for themselves.
