Smithravi, 29 May 2020Finally apart from me and some Japanese people, a mainstream guy talks about HS power control.... moreThat is indeed a handy smart feature for gamers.

Tho I dont think it avoids the battery charge, dont see how it would be done that way, but probably uses same slow charge protocol as BatteryCare to keep it all cool, and without extra charge heat.

Yup, put the phone on charger/charging dock, or some external Usb Power Box, dongle with PS Dualshock controller, and play all day long without worry.

      Nice feat.

Doom, 28 May 2020No reason to get the Xperia 1 II at all. In fact, after having produced phones for so long, So... moreI would never buy a Huawei simply because I don't want to support communism. Period. Even though I was born in USSR and currently live in China.

Apart from other phones, this one has a lot of features that true geeks need.

4k to use this phone in VR gaming? Please.
        Double-firing front speakers? Please.
3.5mm to plug a microphone in for better video recording? Please.
Decent sized 4k mAh battery? (Finally) - please.
Side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doesn't require you to smudge the screen with your finger when picking the phone and then change the way you're holding it to actually start using it? Please.

Finally, the fastest camera in all industry? Three modules for use in mcpro24fps or Filmic Pro for better video experience? Forget about these things, we sport a native cool video app with real LUTs!

Ultimate Reviewer, 29 May 2020Bro what? Do you even know what you're talking about? Humans' eyes simply can't see the differ... moreMost comments about "who needs LDAC" come from people who have trouble hearing the difference between Sabian and Paiste high hat; these people obviously don't need LDAC to listen to their favorite LGBT singer.

Most comments about "who needs 3.5mm" come from people who never really used their phone for more advanced video recording than just pressing the shutter button; these people have no idea that on a good smartphone the audio jack isn't only used for earplugs but is also an input for a microphone.

Most comments about "who needs 4k" come from people who don't know that 99% modern phone OLED screens have Pentile subpixel layout which means there actually is only half the claimed resolution due to different technology, where 9 pixels look like that:
          RG BG RG
          BG RG BG
          RG BG RG

whereas on a IPS LCD or IGZO 9 pixels would look like that

          RGB RGB RGB
          RGB RGB RGB
          RGB RGB RGB

count the red, green and blue subpixels and you'll see why Sony's "4k panel" is actually the first true 1080p OLED display.

Some uneducated people think that the higher resolution would images SHARPER.
Have they ever seen a 5k Mac Pro display? Does anything in the world look sharp on it? No, it looks realistically smooth, and that's what images look like on XZ Premium's 4K screen, and that's what they're looking like on the X1, and that's what they're going to look like on the X1mii, not SHARP, but SMOOTH, because at higher resolution the image doesn't have to downscale so much, and you can't single a pixel out like on Samsung's 1440p screens which are actually 720p in BLUE and RED colors.

Ever read footnotes in ads? You should. It reads that on OLED screens the screen definition is calculated by only Green subpixels.

          Study math, gentlemen.

Smithravi, 29 May 2020Finally apart from me and some Japanese people, a mainstream guy talks about HS power control.... moreMan, I really missed out on that feature! Thanks for sharing this.
That means, this 4000mAh battery will barely be degraded even after 10 years of use if the user constantly keeps on using this feature, just wow!

And to think that Game Enhancer is actually customizable, in a sense that you could even use it for non-gaming apps, such as YouTube, Facebook, Google Chrome, etc.
Means when at home, I can simply plug in my phone all day and not even waste a single drop of percentage from my main battery. Wow what a crazy idea to maximize my battery to its full potential!

Let's see who's gonna be first to copy this idea and claim it to be the world's first. Lol.

It very sad, sony is not marketing this like they are doing it for camera. And all of sudden Samsung/Chinese company will copy and release this feature in future models and get the credit. As usual same story since decade.

I don't know why this debate comes out this way everytime, the real comparison should be between 4K and FHD in the first place, both popular real used resolutions in most all contents, if u can't distinguish between 4K and FHD then this is a deferent type of problems.

I am more interested in the photography side, but I do want the ability to review the photos on the screen before getting home. And with a 4k screen the details will be clearer.
The phone has its downsides as well and is not the perfect phone but it is what comes closest for my needs. What I have been saying all along is that it isn't the right choice for most people but that doesn't make it bad. People have trouble understanding that for some reason

I stated 'some people can discern this difference on a phone, the people who are adapt at looking at high dpi images' which means yes, there are people who can notice the difference.

Anyways, you don't buy phone cause has a 4k panel same reason you don't buy a phone with 120hz. You're buying a phone not a screen. Look at the other specs and software. If you're not using 3.5mm jack or photo pro, you're paying for extra features you're not using.

The truth is if you play a side by side comparison between 4k and hd (there are plenty on you tube) you can easily tell a difference. And that is on half the screen. But to do this you must have a 4k screen to begin with. I'm sure when he upgrades to a 4k screen he will not want to go back to hd.
We all know that if it was Sony with hd and all other brands 4k that the comments on here would be that Sony doesn't even have 4k which is a necessity in 2020. Sad really

And I beg to differ, 20/20 vision(380 ppi level) is just a standardised testing level for optic aid assesment. Most people have better vision than that, and can certainly discern 4K res on a 6,5 inch screen 40 cm away, as the viewing angle is the same as some 65 inch TV 4 meters away. Its simple math.

Smithravi, 28 May 2020Actual picture taken by DPR, https://www.dpreview.com/sample-galleries/6214989909/sony-xpe... moreSonys processing doesnt need work, its HDR processing is on point, not overdoing the shadow extrapolation too much as to look unnatural. The shot would come out the same or even better than the one managed in lightroom, IF the guy behind the camera had used HDR option under P mode for that scene.
I am preplexed how the DP photographer "doesnt know" where HDR and DRO options are, just like in the same mirrorless standalone cam UI, he must have reviewed so many mirrorless Alpha cameras so far, that behave in the same way. I would expect that low level of knowledge from trend reviewers like cNet, DxO, etc, but not from professional grade cam rewiewers.
J Bagnell noticed that behaviour too.

But DP is obviously gonna, as usually, review the camera just as another smartphone app, using only apps auto, expecting autoHDR on out of the box, that Mirorrless DSLRs dont use either. And then of course complain about DR.

Same story with Xperia cam reviews every year.

YOU WON'T NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. The difference between phone screens and TVs screens are gigantic. With such a big display you need 4k to get an accurate detailed image. While 4k isn't necessary on such a small screen.
