RishiGuru, 24 May 2020Your words only strengthen the fact Sony smartphones in India already had started to hit the d... moreOne thing to remember is that LG also have the same fate of Sony, not many sales (It's uniqueness is only in music consumption). Also Motorola came back to India once it was bought by Chinese company.

Everyone knows China has huge market in India because of the cheap prices and plenty features. Iphone on the other hand is exception, because of brand value people in india don't care about price but buys it to show off at their friends or relatives. Even Samsung in India has more share because of it's midrange mobiles and not because of flagship. But I think Sony can't offer like these other companies with compromises, for one reason it could be due to the bad fame it gets them into other divisions as well like in Cameras, Headphones or walkman series or in TVs. When you think about Sony, you only remember Quality. But when you think about samsung?? You remember both poor quality products as well as good quality. This is what Sony trying to not get into I think.

In the end everyone wants to make money out of business including Sony. But I believe they are not that money hungry like other brands and hold on to quality more.

Vineet Reddy, 23 May 2020You are not completely right. Even when SONY had INR50,000 or lower sticker price for Flag-shi... moreYour words only strengthen the fact Sony smartphones in India already had started to hit the downward slope from 2015 and in 2018 reached 0.01% market share. I mean is this even a number in marketing terms? It is a pure shame.

A company or in this case Sony smartphone division will always want to advertise their products no matter which country they operate so as to generate the hype. This is part and parcel of phone business. According to you they had 0% marketing. This only strengthens the fact they were facing severe revenue crunch, unable to sell their high list price phones. This resulted in zero marketing budget and an unhealthy division even unable to take care and operate on most important factors like marketing. And not only marketing, a cash strapped company cannot innovate, cannot design and manufacture more models to take on the opposition. Because all these requires money which they do not posses on the first place.

Sony never had a complete portfolio in India to take on Samsung, LG & Motorola and with the flood of Chinese smartphone invasion from 2014 onward, Xiaomi primarily decimated anything Sony had to offer from low to upper mid-range. BBK Electronics followed with Vivo, Oppo, RealMe, IQOO & OnePlus and ate up what anything and everything that was left in the market. Only very big players like Samsung & LG sustained. Motorola like Sony left our country and later came back with a super VFM product: the iconic Motorola Moto G (1st Gen). And in one week they were like king with their manufacturing plants unable to meet the demands of our country. Money was flowing like water in Motorola division. This mid-range is the "cash cow" of any smartphone company in India and this is where there was a big hole for Sony.

The 2000~2014 era which you speak of Sony's success was before the Chinese smartphone invasion in India. We had few options back then Samsung, LG, Sony, Motorola and few other brands. With so less completion and Chinese smartphone value proposition out of the way, its only natural these companies succeeded. I was a big Sony fan back then as even today I own the Xperia XZ1. After going the full circle now I realize their is nothing special with my XZ1 but I paid high price as I had limited options back then.

Sony as of now can only succeed as a smartphone company where their is much less market competition, and consumers are compelled to pay high prices as they have limited options. Also US telecom industry is very different from India where consumers stick to telecoms while telecoms provide flagship phones and the price is evenly spread with monthly bills for 24 months or more. Thus the consumers never do not get the initial price shock. On the contrary India market is very price conscious and cut throat competition only makes is more tough for Sony.

In the end I want to imply Sony's poor performance in India and other countries have nothing to do with their current flagship. I do not have the option to buy one in India but I do wish it wins the heart of every Sony fans out there.

Anonymous, 23 May 2020And no reverse wireless charging No under display fingerprint scanner. Reverse wireless charging to do what? You're gonna stick your wireless earbuds for 1 hour just to charge it when you forget your charger?

Under display fp scanner is stupid as hell. Slower and just less convenient in comparison to a side-mounted one. Once the screen breaks, you'd also have to replace the sensor itself, which adds to the total cost of repair. Then sometimes screen protectors tend to lessen the accuracy of the sensor.
On top of that, it is much more expensive and adds unnecessary costs to the phone, which could've been used for other more practical cases instead, such as bigger battery or bringing back the headphone jack.

Dennis.K, 23 May 2020Believe it or not, your top PUBGM/CODM streamers actually use iPhones or iPads (more preferrab... moreTrust me all top of the list gamers are part of a team or group which are officially supported and sponsored by brands like ROG. And not only sponsored group almost all the top players who play competitively a single game or are into multiple games at same time and gaming being main focus do spend into these phones. The Streamers are not really that competitive at all, They never aim for top of the leader-board. Yes they are far better than mediocre players but they are no where near Pro-level. Besides few exceptions and you can check their setup for streaming. They are definitely not doing it on iPhone or SAMSUNG smartphone online without adding more latency. Whereas as phones like ASUS ROG Phone have external processing module specifically to extend it to HDMI output helping in no latency gaming experience and streaming at same time.

It is strange how a lot of people on here look for the weakest part of this phone and that is all they like to talk about.
The phone has a lot more strong points (in fact unbeatable in many aspects) than weak points. Yes it doesn't refresh as quickly or charge as quickly and the front facing camera is on the weak side compared to other flagships. But that is about it. The camera can do things no other flagship can do, the screen can show things no other flagship can show, and the audio can do things no other flagship can do. And I am probably forgetting something

Also there's the camera quality that is usually sacrificed in these "gaming" phones, but still, many people want a good for gaming with reasonable price, not every one is crazy enough to pay 1000$ and more for a phone.

Dennis.K, 23 May 2020Nobody is gonna download 60-65% of these games just tonprove a point. The point here is. A person who really wants the smartphone for high refresh rate competitive gaming wouldn't even consider phones like 1 II, S20+, V60 or even 8 Pro in their list. They would have list with phones like ROG, Black Shark etc. which are designed for that specific purpose.
