But then that's standard 2 major OS version support from Android manufacturers.
Had to replace battery within 15 months.
Don't know about whether he is getting security updates or not.
That shutter sound is so satisfying..

I just think that XZ2/3 design is unique but more appealing to... moreyeah that approach probably more logical instead of offering new updates every 6 months. why not just updating their phones annually but release a different kind of phone design in between. just like samsung did with galaxy s and galaxy note. so perhaps they could experiment with few ideas and maybe gain some new audiences but won't lose their own audiences. i don't mind with variety of designs or some kind of experiments as long as they keep offering their proven design so people able to choose which one they like
yeah their decision to ditch headphone jack just doesn't make sense. all their high end headphones/in ear monitors still using headphone jack. pretty much all high end headphones and in ear monitor still using headphone jack. maybe that's one of the reason why sony decided to move their mobile division under one roof with alongside TV, audio, and camera product lines. clearly their old mobile division didn't get a memo that their own audio lines actually selling $2000 headphone, $3000 iem, and $3000 dap. but no headphone jack on sony smartphone...hilarious

Battery life was terrible to begin with.
After couple of years, he had to get a replacement battery from third party store since Sony has officially stopped selling phones in my country.
Screen has cracked easily thereby destroying any IP68 protection it had.
Stuck with older Android version (Although I consider having the latest versions overrated. Android functions just fine with older versions and is 1000 times more functional than latest version of iOS)

Compare that to Sony, how is that poor battery management for 5000mAh?
Also they only use 18W fast charging.
Truth is, none of them get empty in 6hr according to your baseless assumptions.
You need to charge Sony Xperia Atleast twice a day with that poor battery capacity. Within 6 months, battery degradation kicks in since it has 300-400 charge cycles.
While batteries on LG, Motorola go easily for 1.5 days without charging.
The bigger batteries not only have bigger capacity but also more charge cycles.
We all know who wins in the end.
Try again!

Sony just sold 400k units in Q1.
Most Chinese phones are selling that much in a few seconds in flash sales.
Don't you dare compare it to Lamborghini or Ferrari sales since those companies might have lower marketshare but they don't incur losses.
If they don't fix pricing, they'll be history soon like HTC.

I just think that XZ2/3 design is unique but more appealing to women than men, and X1mkII is pure sleek industry tech design men like more yes.
Sony should offer both IMO.
I Remember the 2011 SE Neo/Arc/Ray times when phones were actually the same inside, but totally different on the outside design. Much more visual versatility in peoples hands, much better times than these, where phones are all looking all the same outside, with just a bit different innards.
But 3.5 mm jack ditch made more harm in 2018 than that design.
Sony fans made a statement by not buying those phones.
If anything, it was least expected from Sony of all to do that, they are the darn inventors of the thing.
Fortunately, its back, and supposedly on mkII better than ever before, with added enhanced channel separation, DSEE Ultimate and 3D reality audio.
Tann Hauser, 15 May 2020It aint s**t to her. Nor me.

my opinion was only for the design alone. when i look at sony smartphone, at least in the last 10 years. first thing came in my mind is sony z smartphone, that design so uniquely to sony and i could see that kind of design through all of their smartphones, mostly their flagships though, i haven't look much to their midrange or lower end offers, so i have no idea. but speaking of the flagships, from that very first z up to xz1. it's a sony. even xperia 1, and this xperia 1II back to that essence of z design. smart industrial professional looking, and as with sony you expect at least all usable I/O ports being offered, with specs, features whatever. even the UI is a sony, a minimalist clean UI. it's just part of sony charm
now we had xz2 and xz3 which for me kinda weird looking for sony phones. i can't really tell if it's a sony or not. if people like that designs, go ahead, i have no problem with that.to me personally i don't like it. now let's play a hypothetical question here. if sony xperia 1 II have all the same specs but with xz2/xz3 looking design. would you like it? to me i won't like it, but if majority of sony fans somehow like that xz2/xz3 designs then sony should hear them and use that design approach for their future products then
only few brands have that kind of unique designs, for me it's cool to have that kind of varieties, everybody have their own tastes and needs. otherwise we'll ended up with the all same looking boring products

You can have your opinion about its design and lack of jack, mine isnt too much different, but to her its superb.
Looking into the device tho, it is great in every aspect. Camera, sound, screen, battery, performance... for 300 it cost, its premium bang for buck for her needs.

when a brand already have a recognized design language like sony, there is always some "expectation" about their products whatever it is, whenever it is, it's just part of the company identity. i know it's hard to sell to broader audiences because taste and trends always changing but for die hard hardcore fans or someone that able to appreciate that kind of "niche" approach, a simple minor change could ruin everything. i'm not a sony fans, never had but i do appreciate some of the sony designs, especially in the old days and more recent products. to me, that xz2 is abomination, they should never put a sony name on it :D
for you who still own and still using older sony phone like z5 or xz1. do they still get an updates? what's the latest update for the os and security patch? how about battery life? and if the phones need to be serviced, does sony still offer repair services for those older models? i'm just curious about the after sales services from sony

She got herself a midrange chn phone a year ago, she went mad about it a month ago, as she ended up charging it twice daily. Even my savy mobile knowledge couldnt solve that problem. She Asked me for an opinion this time, I said she should buy an XZ2 that was cheap on sale.
She aint interested in a jack, as she never uses it.
She loves XZ2 design, as it is a bit on feminine side.
It lasts her two whole days between charges.
XZ2 is indeed a great overall device with very capable camera, beside the fact it lacks the jack, and has indeed a slippery back design.
I wouldnt be satisfied with it, but she loves it.

Smithravi, 15 May 2020Do you know the battery capacity of Apple??? If you don't, then stop commenting any further. ... moresomehow those people just can't understand about power efficiency/power management. it's always about battery capacity. much simpler logic though, bigger capacity means longer power, never considering how much each parts draw power compare to the workload, added with power management, added with thermal design. all those raw capacity wouldn't add much advantages if all those considerations also not "ideal".but hey, who cares about real life performance? it's just much easier to judge with spec sheet and benchmark
Anonymous, 15 May 2020and do you have problem with that? as much as you probably hate sony, you shouldn't be bother ... moreIt went out just as I predicted 2 yrs ago, that they will sell barely enough to be afloat, as to come back to their senses and fanbase. With mkII they did.
They removed the jack in 2018, sales dropped significantly up to now, as fanbase refused to support that nonsense move with their money, me included.
Now they brought it back and the fanbase interest is back at pre 2018 level... I just hope it now translates to sales and income surplus...
Anyways, I think 2019 50% drop from already low 2018 sales isnt a big YoY hit for a company that big, with smartphone buissness numbers that low, to cease production, as it affects its overall yearly profit in 1digit percentage.
Problem of mobile cutoff would arise if company's overall yearly profit was highly dependant on smartphone buisness, and then be hit with 50% sales drop.
It is yet to be seen how this covid year will turn out for any and all OEMs, but I suspect some mobile only oriented OEMs will implode first, as a result of significantly lower global smartphone sales.
The situation is already present, as companies like Xiaomi, highly dependant on mobile only, are going all out, releasing more than a dozen models in mere three months, just trying to compensate low sales globaly.
