A bit disappointed... But for the price I paid (£599) I'll keep it for now.
What I don't like:
*Google assistant button- absolutely useless. And at the moment you can't assign any other function to it which makes it even more useless.
*Proximity sensor- works strange.
*Fingerprint scanner- it's just awful. Previous phone I had was OnePlus 6 and It had way better fingerprint scanner in way more comfortable place.
*Torch light- it is too dim.
*Front camera- no words for that.
*Rear camera not impressive in low light even though on paper it has potential.
*Camera app is weak.
*Photo pro and video pro too complicated even for more advanced photographer.
*Battery a bit weak even though GSM Arena endurance test was quite ok.
*Notification sound volume- not loud enough, quite weak actually. Very annoying!
*Software freezes quite often and I am not a very heavy user.
*Pre installed Call of Duty which I can't uninstall
*120Hz display... Hard to notice any difference in action, but definitely drains battery faster.
*No original case in the box. Very few decent ones on the market as well. Same applies to screen protectors- haven't found one which won't obstruct some of the usable screen.
*Gesture control is only one option- google one. OnePlus gesture control works better IMHO.
What I like:
*Size- it is compact in the world of huge bricks
*Rear camera is decent in good light, autofocus and object tracking are impressive.
*Sound from the speakers- after OnePlus 6 its like day and night.
*LED notification light- that's a plus for me.
*3.5mm jack- even though I have Sony XM4 headphones, it's good to know that I can use them when they are discharged, or use my amazing old school wired headphones.
*Near stock Android experience
All in all it's a decent phone for what I paid for it, but after OnePlus 6 I don't see much of improvement. Well... Definitely not software wise or even speed wise. Actually I keep asking myself why I bought it in the first place...
I just checked on xperia check.com the Android 11 update is now availlble for the Xperia 5 ii in Russia with builtnumber 55.1.A.1.178 . I gues it wont take long it will be soone arrive in western europe
Im thinking to buy this phone,i have 3 questions to ask
1)battery performance, what the usually sot can get
2)does it come with lpddr4x or lpddr5
3)for pubg graphic setting does it have smooth 90fps
Im considering to buy this phone
what the usually battery sot can get from this device
and for pubg what is the highest graphic setting can get?does it support smooth 90fps and ultra hd?

I am not a social person ( so I stopped using whatsapp 4 years ago , for reading e-mails , facebook pages I use my laptop )
I care more about excellent sound quality for Mp3 and recording , surffing on the net , excellent cameras for landscape and smooth OS .
And I found those on my N8 , but now I must switch because the phone is dying .

And in a week or so using it, you ll wonder why 21:9 isnt more present in mobile space.
Superb grip hold on the device with this design too.
And dont worry about height, SideSense is great in managing its UI once you grow accustomed to it. I barely notice Im using a 21:9 screen anymore
devils468, 13 Jan 2021u have those options, iphone 12 or 11, oneplus 8 or 7 lineup, s20, pixel 5 etc.1. Debatable to call some of these phones you mention 'compact', though also the same for Xperia 5 II, but it is very thin.
2. Non of those has head-phone jack as OP mentions to my memory. In fact, OnePlus was one of the early followers of Apple to remove this.

I'm mean, E-mail sync service stopped long-time ago, and WhatsApp has never really worked properly beside text, and the camera is way passed it prime. It only really phone calls and SMS now...

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2021I have been waiting for a compact phone with a headphone jack , without any stupid notch and... moreIt's for the people who appreciate 21:9 screen ratio. Thus it is a unique phone for unique people. There are a lot of phone out there either with notch or punch hole at center or left or right with screen ratio of 19.5:9 to 20:9. It is your choice. But for Xperia users, we appreciate the clean without notch screen. Cheers

WITCH even taller than onther 6.5 inches !!
My dream has become a nightmare . Why did you make this Sony ?! :,( .
I think i have to stay again for the 9th year with my Nokia N8 :(
KC, 10 Jan 2021It's a unique phone and I will say mimic like a 12mini size. Like the overall performance... moreThe only thing 'unique' is that it is a decent all-rounder. I'm glad it kep the 3.5mm jack. But it could do better in scree to body ratio and a bigger pixel for front camera. It quite sad really, I maintain, smartphones are boring these days.
Zzz, 12 Jan 2021SONY is very foolish. They are't follow market phone analysis. SONY phone design, camera,... moreI can agree that Sony needs to improve their camera software because they make good cameras, Google pixels show you can have lower megapixels but still take great looking Photos. but other points you mentioned are not as serious as you make it you sound. Go compare it to Apple and Samsung flagship display resolution, the Xperia 1 and 5 II is around the same level. As for phone design almost all phones are a rectangular block, early and mid 2000s is when you had different phone designs
