Becos it's a major Android version update and the file size is large. Just make sure you follow the instruction closely stage by stage. Don't rush through.
The update truly rectified the rear camera software shortcomings. The auto mode has been improved and more.
Overall phone UI and apps open/close are fluid.
Go for it.
Yeah, just take note that the front camera remains a weak link in Selfie. Don't complaint abt selfie... it's already a known FACT.

thanks for pointing out other things too.
we all don't need those water resistance shits if that would cost us even more just to fulfill our carelessness and lose our discipline.

Dani, 14 Oct 2014Can I update my m2 D2305 to kitkat...Thanx for replying....!!It's worthwhile to update to Kitkat.
But, make sure you follow instruction closely if it is not OTA direct, i.e. update via PC Companion.
The main camera software will be vastly improved based on the Kitkat update. Also, after update some apps data can be moved to sdcard! That really a great change that helps to free up the limited internal storage.
Does the front camera is good...Does the phone had lagging or hangging issue...
bot, 13 Oct 2014hey sony when can i update the os of my m2 to 4.4.2 over the net, will it improve the front ca... moreThe update to Kitkat definitely improved the Rear camera software tweaks and rectified its earlier problem especially on the Superior Auto mode. Now it works very well with good pictures taken on reasonable lighting conditions. Worth the update.
However, my advice is please DO NOT have the blind hope and hardheadedness about this update could also improve on the front camera's capability. It's not true!
The Xperia C3 definitely comes with much much better front camera Selfie component (mind you, not VGA type of cheap compromises...) for proper Selfie.
It's hard to find a mid range phone with low pricing that could fulfill plenty of consumer wishes and this is almost the truth.
Except for this brand called Xiaomi... can do more with very low pricing. yet it doesn't claim to do everything we wish.
What intelligent consumers do is, before getting a phone, go read up relevant information and ask what's the top priority of a phone you target on, and, what you may compromise on. Then such consumers will surely be happy with what they get.
I have been using this M2 for a few months, and each time i think of maybe to trade it off to get a more "capable" phone or exciting technologies, and i end up keeping the M2.
Becos i could live without blaming on Selfie. And this M2 does most other things very well! With Kitkat. And i m waiting for Sony to unleash Android L to this M2.
Another example, for those who are so particular abt water resistence, then they will go for the high end Z series or, at least the M2 Aqua. But please dont waste the time of those who read this wonderful forum to seek for correct solutions.
This forum IS NOT for people trying too hard to prove their ego on Selfie issue...
So dont bother with egoistic comments... LOL.
If good Selfie is a must for you, then switch to other phone, don't place false hope on Kitat update.
Hope this explanation clears your doubt, good day.
GH, 13 Oct 2014You are still trying to blame the camera issue on VGA?
How many countless phones, tablets, ... moreAnother foolish comment..,SOME people just can't accept what's hapening... IT'S just a mid range phone that has to make some compromises. LOL. No wonder Sony also dont bother with such complaints...
The only practical solution to this M2 issue ~ want good Selfie? Spend more and buy a phone thats meant for such hobby, with better front camera component! Got it? Dont bother the whole world trying to find out any answer that meets your taste and to prove something. Haha.
No time for these people really. LOL!
Oh yeah, my objective? To highlight that dont bother to waste whole world's time over and over again on an issue which has no solution...
Does the phone had hanging and lagging issue and does the phone front camera is good or bad...Please Reply...
jj, 01 Oct 2014i could use front cam easily without any problem before and after kitkat update, maybe its som... moreJJ, can I ask where are you located?
I ask, because every review I read about this phone does not mention any issue with the front camera not being functional indoors. But the only reviews I find are all out of the UK.
In fact, the review at techradar has the author posting a selfie for a measure of pic quality, and the guy is obviously indoors: http://cdn0.mos.techradar.futurecdn.net/art/mobile_phones/Sony/XperiaM2/Sony%20Xperia%20M2%20Review/Camera%20Samples/VGA%20Sensor.JPG
Now what I've noticed from reading this thread, is that all of the people that say they have this issue, obviously do not speak English as their first language, which means that they're probably from India, or Philippines, or Singapore, or another Asian country.
However, I've yet to read anybody from the UK mentioning they have this same problem. Which makes me wonder what is different between the two regions, when they both have the same model phone?
Software? Hardware? Firmware?
I live in the States, and the M2 was not distributed by SONY here in North America, so it's not like I can go to a store and test one out. But from everything I'm reading, something is terribly wrong with the front cam on the one released in Asia, which is just the weirdest thing I've ever heard of.
Those of you who have verified the front camera's usability indoors, please provide your location.
