I purchased a Sony mobile phone model M5 on the 11th September this year. Within a week, the phone kept shutting itself down and was impossible to switched it back on unless it was connected with a charger, and battery power appeared unstable. I took it to Sony repair center on 29th September and they replaced it with a new phone.
Within a week upon using this new phone , again, the phone kept shutting itself down and was impossible to switched it back on unless it was connected with a charger. I took it back to thier repair center, and was told I have to wait 3 to 4 weeks before it can be returned to me. I found this totally unacceptable as expected from a brand new phone.
I searched online and found many people are experiencing the same problem with this model of Sony Mobile.
I have requested a full refund but was refused by Sony HK. Their company does not have a customer service to deal with my complaint and their repair center urged me to file a complaint to the Hong Kong Consumer Council.

I agree with you, the idea of returning ng the phone if the shutting down issue still occurs after the Android update. Because what's the sense of having the Lte network if it has no use with this phone. But I have still a good vibe that marshmallow will fix that. I hope if they release marshmallow sony will also release a firmware update. Fingers crossed. Good to hear your news thex!

I monitored my phone after changing the settings to GSM only as you've suggested and it works for me!! No more shutting down issue. Battery life is OK for me and heating issues not that I know of maybe after prolonged hours of videos yet but I don't often watch with my phone so no comments on that but really glad to hear that it's all good for you. I agree, guess now we will have to wait for the marshmallow upgrade which as I have read will be available for us around January 2016 and see if lte or wcdma settings will shut the phone down. For now I will just have to bear with the GSM. However if after the upgrade, with lte causing shut down I will still highly likely be returning the phone for Sony to replace it. Do you think this is a good idea?

It is your choice..better have two sim slot rather than one, right? You just can ignore the other slot if you just use one..lol...
I really going crazy bout buying this m5 buy keep on seeing negative comments. Should i buy it or not? Ofcoz i only buy it from Sony Store. But they're only selling m5 dual as i don't really like a dual sim hp.

Ye... moregood day thex. after i got the replaced white version. i instantly tweaked the settings. i turned my network to gsm only , cos im using a wifi and i think i dont need the support of lte as of this moment. maybe ill try using lte when android marshmallow comes out for m5. its been a week now with my replaced unit and still no issues of shutting down or over heating. i noticed when i play games too long it heats up but not as hot as my former unit. this one cools quickly. and i guess its normal cos im using it for games. its been a week and i only charged this m5 3 times. currently its charging right now and its the 3rd time i plugged it to the wall for a week. its battery is good than the first m5 i got which leaks even in standby mode. does your m5 still shutting down? i cant wait for marshmallow to roll out soon. so we can maximize the use of this phone. im not losing hope with this xperia model, i think it has a great potential
Mayur Khode, 19 Oct 2015Please let us know what Sony center decides to do with shut down issue of M5. GOt this off a forum. Its the LTE data setting that seems to be the nuisance. i changed mine to GSM and the phone has not gone off for two days now.
Did you all guys purchase sony m5 online??? Thats why having problm
Anonymous, 20 Oct 2015im stating a non biased answer.as i was also a victim of a defective unit of sony m5. but now ... moreI will try out the GSM setting. And see if it works.what settings are you using now though? Yeah I agree, perhaps defective first few badges but is Sony going to continue to manufacture more phones of this series after correcting this issue replacing our faulty devices with the new badge or are they going to just turn a deaf ear to our problems?are they even considering to stop the production?too bad there is not one thing we can do to at least alert Sony so they will do something about it so that there will be no more victims of this faulty badge. I see that it takes lots of luck then to have m5 without any issues like yours. I will get mine replaced but not so soon no option, can't be back to have it replaced so I'll have to learn to work with my phone and hopefully by then Sony would have corrected the problem and have more properly working m5 out there.so good to know there is actually one out of so many m5s that has no issue.

I bought mine Septemb... moreFew things here Shian, 5th xperia phone am I not getting you right here that you've got the m5 replaced five times or you've been using the xperia series all the while and this is the only xperia model which gives you problems like this. Gosh, that's the problem with buyers like us who bought it in some other countries having to go back to where we bought it to have it replaced, quite a hassle really. Changing the settings doest work for you? Have you tried it yet? Hmm, I reckon you are giving up on this model completely, but from this discussion here, 'anonymous' has got it replaced and apparently is working well but still choice is yours. For me z5 like the other z series will probably be having heating issues,im not quite sure I have been reading opinions about z5 but apparently those forums aren't as informative as this and there were lots of arguments etc unlike what we have here trying to help each other out, so good job guys!!
thex, 20 Oct 2015Yeah as discussed it solves 50% of the shut down issue for me because as long as I have stable... moreim stating a non biased answer.as i was also a victim of a defective unit of sony m5. but now with this new unit they gave me (the 3rd unit to be exact...too much hassle to handle) im relief so far with the performance. its almost a week now and no shut down issue had happened. and the battery is greatly better than the first 2 black version they gave me, which drains rapidly. i hope i will not encounter any bugs with this one. try to watch the video of ammo loaded on youtube about her M5. she also doesnt encounter shut down issue. but she experienced camera bugs and some other app bugs. i think the defective units are a batch of models that are manufactured in a same period of time or date. thex try using GSM only connection.

I bought mine September 20, went home to the Philippines two days after.i will be back in hongkong by end october. I will insist on an upgrade to Z5(no other choice)and will add money for the difference. It is useless if they even give me a brand new M5 replacement because they do not have a solution to the problem..i will only end up with the same one. I had to buy another new phone because this M5 has proven to be useless. This is my 5th Xperia phone and this M5 has made me really disgusted with Sony.
