Hi. I bought Sony xperia m5 dual last january 22. After two weeks of use, i experienced auto shutdown, auto reset and heating problems. I believe that unit is from the first batch release of Sony xperia m5. I am still waiting for the new replacement sony centre promised me after giving back them the defective unit. Sigh! Actually it is a very good phone, it is just the batttery, simcard slot and memory card slot problem is the main concern. Will update to you guys if the new batch of phone release is better.
Xperia Z2, C5 ultra or M5 dual, which one is the best....damn its killing me...C5 only have 2gb ram that is what worries me the most
Biggest mistake that I ever made while buying M5 Dual. Hell lot of problems from day 1. Within 1st 10 days I had to get the handset replaced as the initial one got dead. Had to write an email to the MD to get it done.
Now even the second one is giving lots of problems:
1. Stops reading the external SD Card.
2. Apps stop working on it's on or starts working even if you don't touch anything.
3. Auto shuts down every now and then, and then you would have to plug in the charger to switch it on.
4. Second microphone does not work - Means when put the phone on speaker mode the person on the other end cannot hear you.
5. Battery back-up extremely poor.
6. Over heating.
7. Camera stops working at times.
8. Hangs - then nothing works.
it's a nightmare...going to take this phone once again to the service centre and let's see what happens this time. I wish it they can take this phone back and give a better model .

Everything works fine, I just find the screen a bit small as I moved from a 6.8" phablet to a 5.0" phone.

Because her in South Africa Mtn is telling us that i... morei just google "Xperia M5" and came across wikipedia and a sony site that said only the first batch were experiencing the problem, but still for confirmation i went to sony service centre to repair my ps3 and asked them about that and they confirm that only first batch have those problem but they solve it when the second batch came out. still i never meet the person who had second batch Xperia M5. Hopefully the news is true.

I disabled one of the sim card and no more auto shutdown, but whats the point yo have this phone is one can use one simcard? :(
it has been confirmed that sony admits the M5 series really have autoshutdown and waterproof problem but that only for the first batch of the phone, the second batch solved the problem and i heard it is out in 1st february those who experiencing the problems could ask for replacement tho, im getting this model by the end of february hahaha

I don't understand how a company like Sony can manufacture and market such a horrible phone. I purchased a phone in Nov 2015. Within two days, I realised that the phone switches off on its own. Once given for repair, i got it back after around 15 days. Now I realise that the moment i switch on any application, the phone becomes too hot within no time. Please avoid purchasing this model at any cost.
Anonymous, 06 Feb 2016m5 dual water proof?Oh no.... avoid this phone! ITS NOT WATERPROOF! Mine failed within a month without putting near water, it must have been condensation inside and died! Retailer (eGlobal of Hong Kong) will not honour warranty due to "Water Damage".
It also gets as hot as hell and shuts down by itself and can't be restarted unless plugged in to electricity supply! I suspect its the MTK Helio X10 processor. So $500 wasted! Will never buy anything with MTK processor again. I replaced the Sony with Oppo R7 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor... brilliant phone, and works like a dream!
Sent into sony repair centre in south africa, with the new battery the phone works perfectly however still waiting for the 5.1 update. So guys instead of downgrading rather ask for the new battery it took 8 working days to get mine back.
