Sony Android Other

Earlier today, Sony ushered in its latest camera-centered smartphone with the release of the Xperia Pro-I. We’ve already got the chance to test it out and you can read more about our first impressions in the hands-on review here but now Sony added a few promo videos that show out the phone and its main selling point – the giant 1"-Type 12MP camera sensor.

First up is a product animation video that lays out the key highlights of the Pro-I. Photography and videography are the two main fortes of the phone whose main sensor comes directly from the RX100 VII compact camera. We can see the dual aperture in action which can go from f/2.0 to f/4.0 and we also get a look at the monster 1”-Type sensor and optics above it. Sony’s Front-end LSI image signal processor is also shown and we get a 360-degree tour around the device too.

The official product video goes a step further by showing us what the Xperia Pro-I is capable in the hands of a photographer and videographer. The dual aperture system, large 2.4µm pixel pitch, high dynamic range, and real-time object tracking are all points of focus here. We can see the Xperia Pro-I’s versatility in full effect ranging from day to night time shots, action sequences and portrait photos.

Video capture is not to be outdone as it benefits from the same features mentioned above and takes full advantage of the onboard mono-mic and special wind filter so audio stays crisp even in the most demanding environmental conditions. We also get a glimpse at the optional Vlog monitor accessory and a demo of the cinematic capture functions.

Apart from making a camera phone hybrid, Sony is also taking its commitment to the environment to a next level. Xperia Pro-I is the first Sony phone to contain zero single-use plastic materials in its packaging.

Packaging Design Engineer Tomoyuki Nishizaki describes the process of removing all traces of plastic in the packaging as part of Sony’s commitment to zero waste. The box has a green “No plastic in packaging” sticker on the back and we hope to see more makers following in Sony’s example of removing single-use plastics in their device packaging.

Not really, what I mean is that stacking and binning can get your picture closer to reality instead of sticking the biggest sensor and pixels on it and just capturing the old way - do it yourself way. That way you can stack and bin the pixels too, th...
