AnonD-71374, 19 Dec 2012Sony confirmed that a number of lower-end Xperia handsets will not be updated to Jelly Bean. T... moreYeah, the Xperia J thing is a bit puzzling. However it could be that Sony were under intense management pressure to release JB for the Xperia J, as a newer device, against their better technical judgement. Seems to be some indication that JB is actually more demanding on memory and CPU than ICS (all that 60Hz quadruple buffering stuff costs somewhere along the line), and it may well be that the engineers would rather not have released it for either. In the case of the Xperia U, as a slightly older phone, they were able to avoid doing so. They would probably have liked to strip all the Music Unlimited etc system service crud out of Sony's builds, too, but management vetoed that too maybe...
We can ultimately only guess, but there will be reasons behind it all, and it could well turn out to have been for the best, if Xperia J owners' phones turn into treacly sludge performance-wise as I fear will be the case.
