Sony did not release the official price yet because they are still gauging people's reaction. Remember how the price jumped by about 30+% from the original XA to the sequel XA1? The way people are somehow overhyping the XA2, another price jump is imminent. But personally, if the XA won't be priced higher than $330, it will definitely have a fighting chance, sales-wise, against the trendy 18:9 midrange phones from Chinese brands.
V_sony, 10 Jan 2018Have been busy on my xperia z ultra for the last 3 hours, mix of TV news live apps downloading... moreGot the Samsung Note 3 around that time. Still in working condition and seriously considered the Z Ultra as my next device, even though it was two years old by then. Beautiful device indeed.
It is interesting to notice that Sony has divided user opinion for quite some time. They found a design they (and frankly myself too) like and stuck with it. Personally, I'm very fond of Sony's build quality and design, but can appreciate public opinion that they tend to overprice devices. The same can be said of many phone manufacturers; Apple and Samsung come to mind. Then again, you get what you pay for.
On a different note, I've noticed that Sony listened to public opinion and have rectified some device shortcomings. For one, the forehead and chin bezels are much smaller on the new devices (if they're removed all together, Sony devices will end up looking identical to Samsung and the rest), the battery has been enlarged dramatically, they're on board with Corning Gorilla Glass and the like. This in my opinion is important, for a company to fix their device shortcomings in the next iteration.
I'm excited to get my hands on this device in South Africa, especially if the price stays on par with last year's offering. Sony is carving themselves a niche in the mid-range market, which is good news for buyers who want a dependable device with flagship-like features on a budget. In my honest opinion, this might just be it.

There are other smartphones that has dual camera and has 256GB internal storage like the galaxy note 8 emperor edition. So why did you mentioned the iphone?
And BTW. That performance issue is about batteries. So if I replace my smartphone batteries. That issue you were saying will disappear. How about the Xperia? Since it doesn't provide a replaceable battery. How good is the smartphone after 5 years?

Luckily Sony used SD630 based on ARM-Cortex A53 which isn't affected by Meltdown/Spectre so a HUGE PLUS!!!! Hardware Security Wise....
Flossy420, 08 Jan 2018Look at the huawei P10 plus
3750 mah battery and still very bad battery life for the capacityHuawei have more good battery life than many Sony models. 9.5mm, 9.7mm last very stupid step. Chinese manufacturers in 9.1mm 5.7-6" phone put 6000mah battery.. And min 1.5time more good battery life than Sony this models or other. Asus Zenfone 3(z553kl) in 8mm thickness have 5000mah battery, screen 5.5" if i true remember.
Go down Sony. After this news im hate my Sony.. (successor Z5 model - Xperia X Performance). For comfortably chance i buy other good model and sell this
Similar to Samsung A8 and A8 plus.
An average or below average midranger with price of a flagship.
Sony makes maybe good TV maybe even an playstation but their phones are each year more and more horrible.
What..........! Wait XA2 Ultra and Display Ratio 16:9
Why not 18:9......?
A snapdragon 630? Smh come on Sony at least put a flagship processor in the device.
I get 2 days out of my XA1 Ultra so with the increased battery size in the XA1 Ultra I would love to see what kind of battery life it would offer.
