Ali Bashir, 24 Dec 2016OMG!! artifacts ruined the score, why sony why D:Do you own a Sony Xperias Phone ??
Probably going to upgrade to XZ from my trusty Z5. The 2 irritating points in my Z5 of bad battery life and running hot seem to be much improved on the Latest Sony Xperia XZ. These reported camera issues are not so specific as I'm sure that it still takes great pics. Overall, it appears to be a worthy upgrade. Thanks to Laqesh and Lex79 as being honest owners of this device. Please keep it honest and tell us the pros and cons of the XZ.
Dovice, 24 Dec 2016Good to see someone articulate and spot on here! I am a big fan of the Xperias (owned Z1, Z3, ... moreHi,
Wouldn't say any camera functions without issue, the perfect camera is not yet a thing. For instance I found the iPhone 7 to sometimes mis-focus, the S7 still tends to over do it with saturation and the G5 is now looking very slow to focus and take pictures compared to the best of 2016.
But I get your point, in terms of point and shoot, both the S7 and ip7 walk all over the XZ, and the G5 has probably the best manual shooting mode I've seen.
Why Sony are lagging behind, and perhaps even (according to DxoMark at least) regressing is likely down to them not finding a balance between hardware capability and software features.
All just my opinion though.
Tann Hauser, 24 Dec 2016But you re the "owner" I suppose....
If indeed you really are one, thank you for the info,
... moreYou don't believe me, too bad as I am under no obligation to prove anything I have to say to you.
Besides I've seen enough to conclude you don't have that much of a clue as to what your talking about anyway.
As you require updating on your Sony Xperia knowledge though (some well informed expert you are) here's an excerpt from XZ product page In which it is stated quit clearly by Sony themselves:
"Intelligent Active Mode only supported on up to Full HD resolution 30 FPS."
And your welcome for the info.
Lex79, 21 Dec 2016If you tried recording video during or just after the initial set up process (when the device ... moreGood to see someone articulate and spot on here! I am a big fan of the Xperias (owned Z1, Z3, Z something Compact) and still have still zippy Zperia Tablet Z1. Really want an XZ but as you correctly point out, the same camera issues as those other models plague the XZ. What is odd is that Sony supply the sane sensor to companies like Apple and sometimes, Samsung, and yet their cameras function without issue. Hell, even my 2 year old LG G3 shoots 4K video without a problem!

If indeed you really are one, thank you for the info,
tho I do not tend to believe you....
So I'll just ask that laquesh fella B-)
Laquesh, if you reading this:
Does XZ support inteligent active mode at 60fps 1080p video?
Ali Bashir, 23 Dec 2016Lex, why did you choose to buy Xperia xz??Don't owe you any explanations
Thank you for your honest reviews of XZ. I'm considering upgrading from my Z5. Its been a good phone for 11 months, but it also has design problems. The XZ has good battery life compared to Z5 and doesn't constantly get hot like the Z5. The Xperia design is great and love the fluid UI. The camera flaws as you have said seem to be inherent to all Xperias. Do you think this would be a good upgrade ? This question is only for Lex79 and not the would be experts that don't own these Xperias.
livefearless, 22 Dec 2016Go for xperia xz for sure ,much better in all aspect because it newer and latestNot better than s7, lovefearful. Lol.
Ali Bashir, 23 Dec 2016Lex, why did you choose to buy Xperia xz??Cauz XZ Sony is Beast of Beasts of Flagships. Hehe
How about the phone temp rise & become extremely hot when using GPS like Google maps & WAZE?
DXOMark results are in for the XZ and its 87, a full point less than the X Performance (the S7 and HTC 10 also).
Seems I'm not the only one not overly impressed by the camera set up on this device. Personally, I haven't been shy about not putting much faith in DXOMark but I know a lot of you do, so take from this result what you will.......
Tann Hauser, 23 Dec 2016There is no fault in qualcomm, nor Sony. Its just that tech and software of the Xperia camera ... more"If you want 5axis 60fps 1080 hd of Xperia you need to accept heatup camera app closure after some time."
Yeah and if you want 5axis 60fps 1080 hd then it appears we're all out of luck anyhow as 'Intelligent Active Mode' which is the 5axis feature is only supported up to 1080p30.
But then your the 'expert' I suppose............
Tann Hauser, 23 Dec 2016There is no fault in qualcomm, nor Sony. Its just that tech and software of the Xperia camera ... moreWhatever dude, it's a deficiency, one that Sony themsleves should perhaps acknowledge. Something along the lines of:
'Due to our creative desires extending beyond our current engineering grasp, you can record footage at greater resolution and fps than 1080p30..... but only very briefly. If you don't like it, buy something else ya?'
They should maybe include that on the XZ product page you think?
For something to be truly functional and genuinely useful the hardware /software combination has to be up to task......it isn't as far as this issue is concerned. If Sony couldn't put together the right hardware package to support their lofty software tricks then yes it is ultimately their fault.
Like I said before I still like the XZ, but it's camera set up is deeply flawed.
Lex79, 23 Dec 2016Ah I see, all Qualcomms fault.....right right. I would at least agree they share a degree of ... moreThere is no fault in qualcomm, nor Sony. Its just that tech and software of the Xperia camera is too demanding on SoC processing as ot is now.
Hope you understand that now Lexie.
If you want 5axis 60fps 1080 hd of Xperia you need to accept heatup camera app closure after some time.
If you dont want it, get some other.
