doombadger, 27 Jul 2017For some reason I can't link to the forum post.
It's in this forum and is clearly labelled ... moreYou can post it there(GooglePlus), I can check the Exif there. If not, it is only show you just want to spread this issue and trolling it as a big issue.
FYI, this slightly distortion is normal and fairly common, it is not an issue!
Most of the wider angle camera must have slightly distortion on the frame edge but it wouldn't affect the whole picture taken. Example, you take group selfie, the image captured people stand near the frame edge will show little bit bigger face and people looks fatter, will you mind it? If yes than you can not use any selfie photography, don't tell me you don't take any selfie in your whole life. When you capture a blueprint most of the wider angle camera will have same results, will you capture blueprint mostly for your whole life? it is very slightly distortion on frame edge not a disaster, it is normal in camera industry.
I am not using this one (i am using the Sony xperia XA1) because is too expensive but i have seen this one in local stores .Simply is an amazing phone just SONY!

It's in this forum and is clearly labelled "XZP camera has serious distortion issue"
And on XDA Developers
Lukas333, 27 Jul 2017You do not see the problem? This is my keyboard picture.
http://forum.android.com.pl/upload... moreIt's called a 'moustache distortion'. The most common lens distortions are 'barrel distortion' found in wide angle lenses and 'pincushion distortion' found in telephoto lenses. 'Moustache distortion' is the most difficult to correct in postprocessing software.
Further information for those who are into serious (non-smartphone) photography:
doombadger, 27 Jul 2017That's completely fair. Have you checked the images on the official Sony forum thread? I don't... more"Invalid Parameters Specified".Please provide the valid links.

http://forum.android.com.pl/upload... moreFirst, you posted a thumbnail pic, shot with god knows which camera or phone.
Second, if you indeed own the device and dont like the waves, use varranty return policy and go exchange it for a new unit, of which ever device it may be that shot this picture.
Your problems solved.

Have you checked the images on the official Sony forum thread? I don't know if they have what you're looking for. I personally checked 2 handsets in my local O2 store and they both had quite noticable wavy distortion.
xXENDER FREAKXx, 27 Jul 2017Dude excuse me, but does this issue applies to ALL of the users? It does not, it is only to so... moreAbout 15 or so users there out of who knows how many thousands, maybe even millions, reporting the issue with their camera, but also without any exif data...
And he is sooo serious about it, generalising it out on the entire product line, overreacting, claiming users reporting no problems here are not speaking truth, not seeing right, etc...
Now, how is that type of debating called?
Lukas333, 27 Jul 2017You do not see the problem? This is my keyboard picture. http://forum.android.com.pl/upload... moreJust a image without any Property or Values information, I can't check the information of Details. It maybe edited by any software we don't know? why it doesn't have any details information for the image, even I download the image for checking, nothing Exif can found. Could you upload the image to GooglePlus, I can check it there, because I worry the trolls/competitors will edit the image and trolling for this issue, if you really have the distortion image why you don't dare post it on GooglePlus, so people can check the Exif information.

All they want is the performace they'd expect from a $700 phone that makes bold claims about the quality of it's camera. If it wasn't an issue, why would they be saying it is and swapping out handsets to try and get one without the fault?

I appreciate that other users like yourself aren't reporting this so it's either that they aren't noticing it or it's a faulty batch, which would suggest a hardware fault.

xXENDER FREAKXx, 27 Jul 2017Dude excuse me, but does this issue applies to ALL of the users? It does not, it is only to so... moreI have never claimed that this issue is affecting all users. I can't possibly know that and I accept that some users may not have this issue. Do you accept that the images on the Sony forum display unacceptable levels of wavy distortion?
It is NOT normal for a wide angle lens to display wavy distortion of this kind. It's caused either by a fault in the manufacturing of the optics, or by a bug in the post processing software. Try the experiment for yourself. Take a picture of some grid paper and see if the lines are wavy. This was also an issue on the S7 and Samsung released a software update that patched the issue. The problem is that Sony are refusing to even acknowledge the problem when it is clear that SOME customers are facing this problem.
Again, just because you can't see the issue or have not tested for it does NOT mean it doesn't exist.
Trust me, I would really love to be wrong about this because the phone is otherwise amazing.
I'm using this phone for 1 month, and overall XZP is outstanding.. Screen, camera, software and build quality is superb.. But battery life and speaker could be better.. For me, XZP is totally worth for RM3099 (around USD688) in Malaysia.. No regret at all. Good job Sony!
Ali Bashir., 26 Jul 2017I have watched on YouTube all camera comparisons of the xzp, none of them show any distortion ... moreAnd somehow doombadger is complaining about that here when I have no distortion issue on my XPERIA XZ PREMIUM. There is no "wavy-like" pictures or what, only some packages have that issue and not all like seriously, look at mine have no problems at all and I have no idea why he is so serious about this matter when it is normal for wide angled lens
