I purchased my first Sony, an Xperia Z5, about eight months ago. I like the screen, imaging is fine and I love the dedicated shutter button. The shape, size and weight of the phone work for me and I really like having two SIM cards AND a dedicated slot for the micro SD card. Performance is fine with no real lag, I don't play heavy games on the phone, and signal strength is usually good.
Unfortunately hardware issues let the phone down. The power button failed and was replaced but is on the way out again. It also suffers from screen blackout when making calls which means that I have to repeatedly press on the power button to try to get the screen active again to stop calls. The blackout happens if there is even a little smear of body oil in front of the proximity sensor and many complain that it also happens when using a screen protector. The latest software doesn't allow calibration of the sensor and other apps for this don't seem to help. I have used many other phone brands without ever having an issue with the proximity sensor.
I searched online and found that these issues affect Xperias back to the Z1 and they also affect all of the newer phones. Sony is aware of problems but they haven't fixed them. I would have likely bought the XZ, or the Ultra, for the better camera but my frustration with the Z5 forced me to move to another brand.

Everybody can not buy flagship device every year. i bought Xperia z3phone after spending almost two month of my salary , never drop it single time since 1 year 9 month.my phone is still looks like brand new .but what i see one day touch is not working.service center said that touch is gone and that cost is almost 40 percent of phone cost.that is really awful. i will never gonna buy Sony phone again.their phones are not durable.

It's a worthy upgrade from the S7. The S7 is already advanced for a 2016 flagship smartphone. The XZ on the other hand feels like a 2014 smartphone.

XZ1 already leaked. It won't be too long before it's released. Gosh, Sony phones get old too fast.

It's literally the best smartphone of 2016 according to MWC and Consumer Reports, beating the likes of iPhone 7 and Google Pixel. The XZ is not even top 20.

Most reviewers are giving the XZs a thumbs down even GSMArena saying it's basically just a XZ with few minor differences, and the XZ is among the worst reviewed phones of 2016. Meanwhile, the S7 is named "best smartphone" in MWC 2017. Objective reviews are better than subjective opinion.
