I tried to update my phone from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4, but it says everything is up to date. I tried both the software update from Settings and the Sony PC Companion. I am in the UK and I bought the phone here. Any idea why I can't update it? Thank you.
I have updated to 4.4.4....now it is similar to z3....wifi issue and heating issue has gone....but i am facing battery backup issue....it is not good as in 4.4.2...and also the large icon is not good....

My Partner has a Sony Xperia Z2 which he purchased from CEX used this week.
I have set it up as best as I can.
I can set a main ringtone for all calls but when I try to set a ringtone for a contact it only plays the main ringtone.
Am I doing something wrong?
My partners phone is Vodafone Branded and I was wondering if Vodafone have messed with the phone so that it wont set properly.
I have not updated the phone to Android 4.4.4 due to people saying that XLoud option has gone from the phone and is also supposed to be affecting text tone volume negatively.
All advice most appreciated.
Andy
How check display panel used in z2, sharp or jdc?please help me
How recognize panels (sharp or jdc )for xperia z2.
Please help me
[deleted post]Xperia M2 has inferior hardware; SP's hardware is much better, besides it is quite some bit cheaper. However SP has only up to Android 4.3, but you can flash a 4.4.4 kitkat ROM on it in order to make it even faster and better.
Updates on 4.4.4;
DON'T update your device to 4.4.4 if you:
- don't want the extremely big icons known from the Xperia Z3 series
- don't want lower notification sound alerts (from 3rd party apps) as sony apparently felt obligated to completely remove the Xloud software enhancement in this software version. I can't get my head around this as low sound alerts have been an issue from the beginning of the Z2 and Sony had adressed this. With 4.4.4 you're back from where you started.
yuukun, 06 Nov 2014bro seriously ? go check properly superior and manual mode c the camera are laggy than before ... moreYuukun you are absolutely right. I take back my previous comment about the camera as it is a complete nightmare when I had to use it for proper photos yesterday!
Sony delivers good camera hardware, but completely fails with the software part. The whole camera app is very inconsistent, somewhat laggy, and first but foremost Sony has terrible camera algorithm software processing: photos simply don't look fine compared to a S5 or G3.
I really hope Lollipop delivers a better camera performance but I highly doubt it.
I think it's quite pathetic and somewhat ironic seeing sony advertising their phones namely based on features like the camera, video and waterproofing, yet all their devices happen to fail at those three areas miserably.
AnonD-114479, 06 Nov 2014I watched reviews for Z3 and the big icons appear in the device tooYes true, that's because this 4.4.4. update is based upon the Z3 series software, which introduced us to the bigger icons. But it is in fact quite a matter of taste, I don't like them.
AnonD-257122, 06 Nov 2014Hi Renns, where's the xloud option after 4.4.4 update, as I can't find it anywhere, I remember... moreThis turns out te be quite a stupid and not-worthy upgrade. The XLOUD option you can't find is due to the fact that Sony completely removed the option! As a result my Whatsapp sound alerts for example are much lower. Pathetic.
krish, 06 Nov 2014Yeah..I got Xperia Z2!! luv using this...but I doubt about its battery backup...once its been ... moreBattery goes quickly down from 99% to 96% because batteries are not meant to be fully charged as it can damage the battery due to high voltage when it reaches 100%/99% and it keeps charging after that. So I think the quick batterydrop at that point is normal. Ofcourse it should loose 3% every following 10 minutes..
Mpakalambale, 06 Nov 2014Hi Guys, fellow users of Z2, advice me how to avoid my phone to hang up. When it hangs nothing... morewith 'removing the chip' you mean the Sim card, I assume? Try doing a software reset, if that won't help try plugging it into your PC and do a software recovery or update it to 4.4.4. via Sony PC companion.
IF that won't help either and the phone keeps hanging I'd suggest you to take it to a Sony center, because it could be a hardware problem.
Excellent fone. So far I have not used a phone that is so classilike this. Its true value for money
AnonD-327940, 06 Nov 2014Bro is there a problem with wifi ? i hv a 2.4ghz router will it be a prob ? i wanna buy this phone Hey man, I haven't encountered any problems with WIFI. WIFI reception is better than my previous phone, Xperia SP. However whether the Z2 handles the specific 2.4 GHZ bands correctly I'd suggest you to look online for technical specifications regarding the WIFI antenna, as I'm not into these specifications. However I assume it's safe to suggest that most WIFI bands will be supported, but note that I don't know if 2.4GHZ is an uncommon frequency.
Solzark, 06 Nov 2014Bro I have Xperia Z2.
To get the best battery performance how should i use stamina mode and l... moreIf you are around a charging spot every day, I'd advice you to just only use the STAMINA mode. The low battery mode and ULtra stamina mode are only of importance when you are not able to charge your device within let's say a day and you have only 20% or less battery backup left: these modes are designed to let your device stay in standby mode efficiently. However you might as well turn your device off in such scenario lol.
About the STAMINA mode, you can turn it on. When you turn off your screen the device shuts down mobile data / WIFI which gives you a longer standby time. However, when you want to get notified whether you receive a facebook/whatsapp message / third party app message, you have to include it into the STAMINA mode list. You will always get calls and text messages regardless of having the phone and SMS app included in the STAMINE mode. Note that when you include an app like Whatsapp into the STAMINA mode exceptionlist its function somewhat fails to come alive: whatsapp has to be checked very frequently by your device so it won't be able to shut down the data connection like STAMINA mode is intended. However it does help improving standby battery lifetime as other apps like Facebook / twitter/ whatever won't use resources in the background, as long as you don't include them in the STAMINA mode list either.
Anonymous, 06 Nov 2014got my xperia z2. It got ruined after a month first time dipped in the water with all tabs clo... moreLol so far the 'waterproofing' of the device.. I noticed a gap on the rightcorner between the screen and the alu frame. Never am I going to dip it into the water that's for sure.. still the whole waterproofing feature seems completely worthless. They might as well give it the same IP rating as S5 wich is only waterresistant and not waterproof.
Hey ya'll? This sony xperia Z2 is my first sony after a number of Samsungs and I'm more than highly disappointed. When my phone dropped once, just once, I've suffered from serious network issues. Took it to the sony shop for fixing, but no changes..I'm to take it back next week and I'm annoyed!! On top of that, my wi-fi keeps dropping and refuses to connect almost all the time. On top of that, I don't get whatsapp notifications or message notifications when my screen light goes off, I have unlock it for the notification to come in. I'm HIGHLY disappointed with sony, and this will definitely be my last ever sony phone. Samsung is waaaaaay better, stronger wi-fi connection, no unnecessary network issues despite dropping my Samsung phone severally... I'm mad!! I am!!
