the phone looked good and went on to buy it, only to discover that it does not have a new software on the sony companion and it went off just like that

This phone was probably my biggest mistake, coming from S3 I thought big screens were scary so didn't want to get S5. Went the Sony route. Phone had measly storage (SD card mitigated that issue, also apps were smaller back then!), and horrendous build quality. It started overheating after a year or so, glue melted away and whole phone just kinda swole up. Got it replaced under warranty, but the replacement one fell apart after a year as well, with charging becoming impossible due to microUSB port failing and pogo pins detaching due to overall frame expanding laterally after glue weakened.
Still loved it. But never bought Sony again... Leaving this comment for the historians lol.

i wanted this phone so bad back in the day... the compact size, the metal and glass structure, water resistance, NFC and alot more; too bad that this phone got released in my country and then all of a sudden sony decided to pull their mobile department here that forced me to pick something else.

Just to mention (not brag) that having been gifted this phone I've spent a great 3 weeks experimenting. In short you can get to Android 6 via the official sony upgrade route. But then you can jump to Android 11 via Lineage 18.1 . I tried many configs after unreliability, now .... currently nova launcher, Android 11 (Lineage 18.1) and SD card configured as Portable Storage (not integrated / adopted) , seems to be working flawlessly. Lineage camera is saving photos to SD card to preserve the 16GB of internal. What a wonderful phone, actually fits in my pocket and the photos are very respectable. All my usual applications like Spotify, Google Apps, Fing etcetera seems to work fine.

2 major problems on this phone : very very weak if faling the glass break its guaranted, its happens 2 times for me and it was only about 60 or 70 cm from table, other thing the photos are not for printing, you will be surprised by some green colors every where and its invisible on screen, printer is printing better with photos from other phones even 5mp quality is better than one printed from z3 compact

The best dang-blasted phone ever. The glass. The looks. The sleekness. The SIZE. The camera was excellent. WATerPROOF! Took this baby on vacation so many times. Underwater pics! Have bought about 6 of them to make sure I still have it. Like the white but love the black. Like a James Bond phone. Excellent craftsmanship. Excellent excellent excellent excellent. Those that had problems probably shoved it in their front or back pocket and sat down. No modern phone is made for that kind of abuse, and manufactures know it.

On my z3c google services stopped working, gmail did not work and i could not log in and play store did not work but for some reason chrome does work, it always says checking info and sends me back to the last screen

The Sony Xperia Z3 compact was a really good phone, and that is something very random to say about Sony's smartphone market. The Xperia Z3 compact had really good loading speeds for apps and google searches for it's time, and had a camera that is so good, you might not even find it on some newer iPhones like the iPhone 7 or iPhone 8. The only thing that brought this phone down in value was the hardware. I barely had this phone for 1 year before I started getting signs that the hardware was degrading and worsening. Overall though, if I could rate this phone from 1 to 10, I would give it a solid 5/10. It was a great phone but it would only really work great as a temporary phone if you were looking to upgrade within the next 6 months or maybe a year.
