The rear glass cracking i heard many is outside of Asia.
In Asia were less problem on its.
My Z3c can hold a short drop(30~50cm) without any scratch or cracking.
My brand new Z3 compact all of a sudden went dead and did not power up. This happened within 2months of purchase. The phone is now in repair shop and apparently a part would be replaced.
Having no problems with the back glass and using this phone from a month now. I'm not using any screen guard or a bumper on the phone - just a leather pouch which covers it from all sides and gives almost complete protection when not in use, since what I personally believe is that if you pay premium for a device there's no point in covering the device with bumpers/cases with proprietary logos on them (looks so cheap and defeats the original purpose of buying premium) when in use. The scratch/glass guard decreases the screen sensitivity then while also making the scratches too prominent on the guard, not to mention it looks so dirty over time and needs to be replaced.
I am a big fan of one handed of operation of this device and writing this on the z3c itself. The bottom line is just give a due care to your device and nothing bad will happen to your device, ever. I own the galaxy s4, galaxy note 2, Lumia 1520, Lumia 920, surface rt, kindle paperwhite, & galaxy tab 10.1 and they all are in percect condition just as when were new. Earlier I had lumia 800 (my wife managed to break the display somehow), galaxy note 1, & galaxy spica and same was true about them too.

My Z3 Compact died suddenly within two weeks of use. It will not turn on or show any sign of life. Took it to the service center but no luck. Last Sony phone I am buying. It is a crap and waste of money!
I no have any issue about the glass because i know how to handle a smartphone.
But i can destroy a smartphone too in 5 sec.
Give me a Samsung, Apple, or anything and i will destroy it in just 5 sec.

Omg this phone is amazing! I love this phone. No problems like any of others have said. I got one in hk. I also have an iphone 6, truth is, I prefer z3 compact more. I really wondered what problems other users are facing. My is super flawless!

PRODUCTION FAULT, BEWARE! I purchased a Z3 Compact mid-November online, I am in the US, but wanted the phone to use on T-Mobile. First few days it was a great device, then it began failing. The phone began randomly shutting down. It would occasionally restart if plugged in, but then failed all together. It is a W37 phone, which others have complained of to Sony. I called, sent in the phone on my own dime, even though Sony said they'd send me a shipping label (they eventually did but it came a week and a half after they said it would). Now they have had the phone for over two weeks, and have given me no updates unless I call them, despite the fact that they told me they would let me know the status of my device. This miserable level of service is unacceptable. I paid $600 for a non-functional device, and will likely be deprived of use for well over a month. I didn't pay that money to NOT have a phone for such a long time. Sony knew of the production fault, or should have by mid-November, but instead of addressing the issue the right way and providing a replacement product without the fault they are taking weeks and weeks to "look for parts" "evaluate replacement requests" and the like. That is not why I selected what I once thought was a quality electronics manufacturer, Sony. I will seriously reconsider purchasing Sony products in the future. One thing that sets a quality brand apart from others is that if you sell a defective product, which happens to the best of them, you make it right and replace it immediately. It seems Sony does not care as much as it once did to stand behind its brand and provide its customers the value they pay a premium for. There were plenty of other cell-phones out there I could have purchased that would have worked right away, and if not, would have been replaced within a few days by the manufacturer, instead of Sony taking month or more. Not sure Sony can make up the tarnish this puts on their brand for me. Very disappointed.
Lol. Bunch of liers. The phone glass pannels cannot crack on their own. I own a unit myself. dropped it twice. once hit the stairs. (iron) and once hit the floor. No scratch, no dent, no crack no nothing. Just dont mistreat phone. Dont overcharge, (i feel battery expanding is related to back glass crack) overheat, (overusage of phone's capability) and everything will be fine. Others are just forcefully trying to "fix" their phone that they feel is misaligned or something but i repeat, you just mistreat yor phones. Another is that your unit could have been a demo unit as manufacturers use low quality of material for their prototype or demo unit.

I faced the same problem within 3 days of using my new phone. other than this problem the phone is too good. It has amazing display and i liked the camera features. However, Sony refunded me the full amount when asked instead of replacement.

Lasted one day before the rear screen cracked hasn't been dropped or mistreated very unhappy

never in over 10 years reading phones reviews i've read so much wining about cracked screens AND some screens appear to be cracked by magic cause they did no not fall at all!
they just appeared CRACKED by a mysterious force!
To recommend anything , I have two weeks with the phone, not dropped or hit me , but crashed back , validating vendor warranty
in my case Telcel, washed his hands saying it is not a detail factory (it only display the month warranty say you have them ) , they have to send it to evaluate the Sony company, however it is very likely
I have to cover the total repair , technical service people tell me that the range ( z1, z2 , etc ) if you have this in detail, but they had not
presented it crashed without a blow , fall or caused by the user.
