Bought this back in Nov 2014 $450 off contract to replace my iPhone5S 16GB, which the screen was dead.
The phone is still my daily driver up until now, except the rear camera is dead (the main selling feature, is PHUC-IN' dead!!).
The Snapdragon 801 and 2GB RAM are beefy enough for everyday tasks, and I don't game much so it's good for me (Graphic intensive games like Asphalt run nicely). Sony's own Xperia UI is smooth and snappy, with a couple of nice tweaks and additions over the vanilla android experience. Front facing speakers are spot on, and audio playback is FAB. The size is just right for my pocket and tiny Asian hands, although sometimes due to glass + plastic construction the 801 it gets hot, uncomfortably hot. e.g. Streaming 15 mins of video from YouTube brings the heat up easily.
Been having quite a few problems with this phone, to be honest.
Glass front and backs are nice visually, yet are massive fingerprint magnets and extremely vulnerable to scratches, and inevitably cracks. I did crack the screen once, left it face down on a cold stone floor on a freezing winter night (it was last Feb), and it cracked. I might just be careless then. (after the freeze something went wrong with mobile operations as well, it became fine afterwards).
That was just the beginning of my problems. After the screen was fixed (cost $120..well fuq me), I bought a silicon protection case for my little buddy. Screen was fine up till now, but now the back cover started cracking, audio jack started to have connection problems (that was another $60), NFC was dead and now even the rear camera isn't working. -___-
The problem with these Japanese phones are although they look really good on the outside and work like a champ, once you need to take it to a fixit and open it up, other parts eventually start to have problems, and according to my handyman, the phone is SO compact (livin up to its name) that its very difficult to take apart.
I did have random rebooting problems for the first few weeks as everyone said below, however hard rebooting (long press volume up + power button) or poking the yellow reset button next to the sim slot for a couple of times eliminated the problem eventually. After updating to Android L the issue is no longer seen.
If you're looking for a nice looking and capable daily driver, my verdict is: look elsewhere.
Samsung's A5, LG's G3, even the 1+1 would be smarter choices than this.
Hello guys, I am very much confused about xperia z3 compact and xperia m4 aqua. Also I have heard that xperia z3 compact screen cracked by itself and xperia m4 aqua has a heating problem. Is the problem with both of this set is still exists. So i want your suggestion which one is good for say 1.5 - 2 Years. And please dont suggest me to go for other set as I like this two set very much and i want to buy any one of them. Budget is no problem here. Any one using these two set please suggests that I shall go with which one for 2 years.

It is best phone i had.. Small for pocket, fast like big one ,excellent camera...
Overheating is beaceuse some app use proc for 100%, so u can have batter drain, but not a problem with task manager find app and kill it. It can happen to any Android phone.
I have 60 Compacts in Firm and all working good.
I had mine for exactly two months, it died, I sent it back and received a new one today. Not very happy because I've now got to personalise my phone all over again. I keep it in a good case, but that doesn't seem to help this sudden death problem.
from few time everyone facing problem of sudden death..actaully in some z3 compact its a fault of software....try these steps 1st factory reset then without any use repair software with sony pc companion and lastly drain ur battery near to 10 percent and then charge fully...i personally do this and now i dnt see this sudden death in my xperia z3 compact i mean auto off problem again...because no one want to sent phone to service centre because after that phone sealed etc not like a new phone and they only do some practicals on phone...so dear frd try this if u r lucky then ur problem sort out.....

AnonD-416323, 12 Jul 2015i bought mine lst oct 2014. first the swipe down began to malfunction so hard for me to erase... moreHave the same problem, i think they call it "sudden death". Sent my unit to the service center and until now, still no news on its repair. Apparently this has been happening quite a lot of times to other users of this phone. I had my z3c for only 3months. Booo Sony!!!

william, 28 Jun 2015I want to buy this but i read there is a lot of sudden death/brick z3c. Anyone experience this... moreYeah, had this problem with a z3c i bought last april, it suddenly "died" last june. the phone is still with Sony service center at the moment. Im extremely disappointed with Sony. Ive read a lot of stuff on forums that this has been happening quite a lot.
i bought mine lst oct 2014.
first the swipe down began to malfunction so hard for me to erase some notification you have to auto rotate the screen to do it,and when its on auto rotate mode i have to shake the phone at 8.0 magnitude to go to my desired angle sometimes i need to do some aftershocks.2nd it restart on its own and 3rd wala na, ayaw na nyang gumana!!!(not functioning anymore).
By the way i am a sony user since 1996 thats why im very disappointed with sony, maybe because it is chinese made and now start to switch to other brand.
My one is intact and beautiful as ever, just put a cheap case and your fraid to crack the z3 is gone...the magnetic charger is a great idea!
dropped mine for almost 5 times already with heights above 5 feet. just had dents on the plastic parts but no scratches/cracks on both front and back glass. i can say that those people crying about their phone screen getting cracks are just urban legends. i salute to sony for making such a sturdy phone. i havent put on tempered glass yet. if you have doubts buying this phone then buy it now without hesitation. im planing to root this and install custom rom to achieve true "2-days battery life" on average to heavy usage
