Awesome - minus loudspeaker, headphone music sound and loudness and vibrate. Best small phone out there

I've been using this phone for about a month now, bought it on 31st Jan to replace my broken Nexus 4. So far it's doing great! I bought magnetic charging cable online for about USD 10 since I don't want to keep opening and closing the protective flap. it's just too bothersome. Never dropped the phone (hopefully will never do), but I use nilkin frosted case to address the slipperiness. yes it's a slippery phone, even more than my old Nexus 4. but it's sexy as hell, great size for one handed usage. It's almost stock android, but came with preloaded sony apps which most of them are useless (I only use Walkman media player, sony's official music service - free streaming and download, and sony's photo gallery and camera app). Battery life is superb! Previously with my Nexus 4 I can only get maximum 3 hours screen on time, 12 hours light to medium usage (I dont play games), and brightness set at 40%-ish at all time. With Z3 Compact, I get AT LEAST 4 hours screen on time, over 15 hours medium-heavy usage, with my screen brightness set at 80% at all time. I don't use Google Now on both phones, but I keep the ok google hotword detection on and location settings at battery saving. With Z3 compact, I never leave house with external battery pack or powerbank anymore. never need it anymore. Performance is blazing fast across the UI, never found any hiccup or apps force closing except for social media PATH 3 or 4 force closes in a single month, but maybe that's because bugs in the app, im not really sure.
Got this phone four days ago, and I have to say it's awesome.
Build quality is good, and feels good in my hand, weight is just spot on. screen is sharp and vivid. Registers touch very well, no need to swipe and tap many times for it to respond.
First Android phone for me (old was REALLY old Nokia Symbian phone, so no comparing these two). Despite that i got the hang of things quickly. OS is good looking and fast, was easy to customize also.
Settings are clear and easy to setup, Stamina mode really does what it says, battery life is amazing on this phone.
Web browsing is also fast, though I'm yet to test it with 4G speeds, will be even more enjoyable.
Camera I haven't tested yet, waiting for the back protecting film so I can peel of the factory plastic.. :P
this is the best phone I ever owned . one reason being is the battery life is amazing . another reason it is SOLID and water proof.
another reason the ease of use .
to be better with z4 compact please sony do not make it bigger . you can make the screen few millimeters bigger which will be nice but size wise it is the best.
all other phones can not compare to its battery usage and that's why I think this is the best phone
Anonymous, 23 Feb 2015actually this the best phone i ever had...nothing can compare to SONY...is the camera good?
Recently i buy this phone and its fuking awesome great performance, great design, great user interface and the battery was really satisfying, the only cons is the camera it's kinda dissapoint i think. but, it's not really bad too.i don't know why camera in sony phone is not good compare to the other phone that use the sony censor that's weird.i hope that sony bring surprise to the lollipop update
After owning a z1 compact and be very pleased i changed to z3 compact. I have to say that changing was a risk for me cause my z1 compact was perfect in all. Screen camera battery connectivity everything. Now with my z3 compact is one step ahead, its perfect. Didn't understood a huge difference between the two but this one feels a little better on hand and also the screen is a little brighter.i can not here ffrom others that by falling it breaks cause mine fall of by pocket without cas3 while biking and not even a sign. I usually don't do a review but i changed from apple and 5s to samsung and note 3 and after that to sony z1 compact and now to z3 compact. I have to say my best experience without problems is sony.
Well thank you all for the responses...Decided on buying because never owned a sony phone and always found them the sexiest android phones. my first time experience with android was the galaxy s4 and I HATED IT...UI SLUGGISH; SO MUCH EXTRA BLAH; and It was just a bad experience coming from being an apple fanboy. So then google BLESSED me/us with the NEXUS 5 and then I WAS SATISFIED...Updates straight from google (like apple) /pure android/ Unlocked/1handed Use...Pretty much everything I wanted except camera and battery life...
I AM HOPING THIS Z3C WILL BE ...THE PHONE... TO GIVE ME THAT ULTIMATE ANDROID EXPERIENCE...Love z3 design but like when i owned the z1s for 5 days, Its just too long
Thanks to All

To the Anonymous troll about the charging port:
I advice you buy a specific charging cable made for the ZX device of Sony (as an apple fanboy you should be used to buying proprietary cables). It costs less than 10$ (paying that little money on a cable is not in your habits, I know...). Since I bought one, I've only opened the port a couple of times for data transfert with my computer (because I run Linux, and Sony wireless file sync software is not compatible, but if you have a Windows (and maybe Mac OS ?) you should be able do to that without a usb cable pretty easily
Don't forget that this device costs half the price of an iPhone 6, and in my opinion as for my usage, is much better.

Just get there already. We dont mind
AnonD-110047, 26 Feb 2015Anybody knows when Android 5 lollipop is coming for Z3 Compact?
WHY DID THEY THINK PLASTIC OUTER WAS A GOOD IDEA??? My 2 month old Xperia Z3 compact has a bend in the plastic cover for the charging point and keeps coming out... DRIVING ME CRAZY... and when I called Sony they said I had to go without a phone for 2 weeks while I sent it off to be checked over!!! Considering I had to get my number ported to a smaller sim card to fit into the phone I cant even use my old phone while I wait... What a JOKE. I will be going back to Apple where they actually look after their customers when the product has a design issue!! BEWARE!
Very delicate, do not buy this phone unless you plan to carry it around in a padded bag,, the back glass shatters very easily.
The Sony experience is horrible, from the store to customer service,, you are better off using a major retailer like Best Buyer rather than the Sony Store,, HORRIBLE customer service
If you need long time battery, just go for z3 compact. You'll never regret.

It's been a saver for those cold winter days.
Curiousguy25, 21 Feb 2015I have been doing my research for a long time now and I am still skeptic on buying this phone.... moreI bought my phone from NCIX (Canada) in November 2014. I paid 650$ Total (phone + shipping + insurance) (Yes, I'm a bit paranoid for expensive products). I use the device as my main and only phone ever since. This is my only portable device (no tablet, phablet or anything like that).
About the device crask / screen issues:
I live in Quebec, Canada. I bike in winter everyday, two times a day to go to my job, no matter how cold it gets (-20C theses days), and keep my phone in my pant pocket. So everyday my phone goes from 20C to -20C (or worst). I sometimes use it in the street while walking (taking picture for instance), but it's pretty rare because it's usually to cold for my hands (I dont have fancy smarphone gloves). My screen has absolutely no issue. I put the screen protection that was in the box with the device. I don't know if that's doing any difference with cold protection, but I don't plan to take the chance and remove it. Anyway, it's free when you buy the device, or I also had one with the case I bought.
I also made it fall from a table, my hands when standing, and probably one other time, but there is absolutely no trace of any fall. It felt only when in a case though.
To reply to @X-Ray too:
I haven't notice that it was slippery, but I now use a silicon case so it dosen't really matter. The case is not particulary nice (bought a 11$CAD one on Amazon) but it does the job (made it fall 2 or 3 times, and absolutely nothing is visible on the device). It doesn't feel "too thin" at all. It's a phone, not a credit card I can tell you that. There is absolutely no issue for me to hold it. But once again, I have a case now. I used it for a few weeks without the case, And it was ok. (I would rather not aving the case (because it's not really sexy), but I don't want to take the chance to see it fall and break. It's nice, but it's still pretty expensive.)
I almost never write reviews for products, but I'm really happy with this phone (only things pissing me off are all the useless apps you can't remove, and the "privacy rape policy of Android apps). I guess there are some trolls (paid or not) to change customers mind, and/or fakes products and/or really defective genuine products. I guess it happens for all the products in the world though. My phone seems genuine, without defect, and I believe not to be a troll :p
One little thing is the update to the last Android version. I guess the staff situation at Sony is impacting this update, but I'm really happy with the current version so I don't really care not having the last fancy 5.0 Android release.
Just one last thing: Sony will probably announce the Z4 very soon at the Mobile World Congress. Even if the updates will probably be pretty small, waiting for the new phone specs / prices may be a good idea if you plan to buy this phone (and Z3 prices are probably going to drop a bit)
elly, 24 Feb 2015I'm interested in buying sony phone. But I'm not sure, is nowadays 4,6 iches screen enought (e... moreIn my opinion AND personal needs, 4.6~5" is the perfect screen size to make a compact device, comfortable to hold and use.
My history with touch screen devices was:
BB Storm2 - 3.2"
Motorola Atrix - 4" (very compact, bad quality display)
Samsung Galaxy S3 - 4.7" (stolen from me, perfect screen size, but the phone felt too big)
Sony Xperia Acro S - 4-3" (perfect body size, screen ok)
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - 4.6" (perfect body size / perfect screen size IMO)
It all goes down to personal needs, I simple can't recommend this phone to Phablet users!, those will need to consider the Z2 or Z3... but for people that uses regular size phones / old iphone users / one-hand users... This is the BEST package, it may not have the best camera (I tested against Nexus 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, S5), it may not have the most accurate display (too cold)... but the camera is good enough and is great on Manual and specific scenery (low light), the display is very bright and battery efficient, the battery itself is incredible, the UI is simple yet productive, and the performance is extremely good.
Choose which ever suit your needs better
BTW, I tested water resistance on mine and it works pretty good. I recommend to get a wrist strap and use the eyelet hole on the device to prevent falls, in my opinion is way better than simply using a case.
