Candy, 03 Dec 2013Nexus 5 or this and why??I have both of these. The NEXUS was too. 32 GB for 499.00 no contract. N5 more flexible with apps vs modified for SONY apps = limited selection. Both great phones. Both are fast. N5 has the newer technology. Both phones good for getting updates.
And, oh, the camera is very good in daylight, but don't expect a miracle in low light condition. My three years old N8 can shoot better pictures (N8 has 12MP & ZL has 13MP camera). But the video quality is as good as any present phone camera available. The Radio runner can save upto 20 channels and no matter what GSMARENA says, the clock can save only 20 alarms (it's Android's fault, not ZL's). Again, I've stored more than 50 alarms in my N8. Included software are okay. The phone (like any Android devices) can do some magic if you install the correct software and know how to tweak them. For instance, wheni receive a call, if I take the phone away from my ear, it goes to loudspeaker and goes back to earphone speaker when I bring it back to my ears. If you use these kinda softwares, you'll love Android.

The IR is situated between the power button and the camera shutter key. Don't expect magic from the battery as it drains pretty fast. I have to charge twice to keep it alive the whole day. I already have some hands on review here. For you help, I'm posting again.
Xperia ZL is a pretty good phone. The phone is the smallest 5 incher available in the market. Doesn't look as pretty as Xperia Z, but the size sure makes up for that. The phone is very durable (dropped it accidentally twice, no damage). Call quality is great, both parties can hear clearly. Speaker sounds quality is good. While the network works perfectly, sometimes the Wi-Fi seems to drop the connection. Bluetooth and other connectivity are good. The IR is being reported to be unsuccessful, but Sony admitted that and are replacing those phones, provided you've got warranty. I've got huge disappointment on the battery, but when you run a full HD screen, the battery will drain fast (they should have gone for stronger battery). The notification light strip gives it a majestic looks. Touch screen is very responsive, no problem at all. All in all, I give it 9 out of 10.
But the design is personal choice. Personally I like square phones (Samsung Galaxy S2, Xperia ZL etc). But done may not like the design. So hardware wise I'm pretty happy with the phone, save for the battery. Hope this opinion helps you to understand the phone better.

Yazz93, 02 Dec 2013Hey are you sure that ZL is better??? Im thinking to buy a Z... Plz suggest me.Yazz93 is a better phone than the ZL and the Z. Well, I've suggested you to all the potential ZL buyers
Well if you want a cam shutter, IR blaster for remote, and compact a 5" smartphone you can choose the ZL.
Nice smartphone... I have no regret for using this phone. It's very good for the speaker and camera.

Hi guys. I am really confused between ZL and Z. Plz suggest me that which one is better among them, performence wise, look wise and by your personal user experience. Thanks. Waiting for the reply from you guys!
First of all this is an awesome smartphone! It works buttery smooth! I'm in love with its design. Its camera works very well at outdoor but it get sucks in low light condition. Everything in this phone is doing its own job perfectly! But I hope it's a bigger capacity of battery. I got my battery's juice finished at 6pm everyday. It's quite disappointed for me.
Overall it's a great smartphone outside now! You will not regret after buying this awesome phone!
I bough it When it was launch. So far I don't have any problem wit my phone. At 1st I was to buy Xperia Z. But when I compare the spec I decide to buy this phone.this phone functioning well till today. But what I can say is this model phone are not famous as its sibling model Z. The price also reasonable. As a former Sony service staff, so far this model is have better quality when compare wit similar specification model phone.

but as ... moreYea.
For my case, I choose Sony as my second phone. Reason being I was a Samsung user for the past 2 years, and Apple's iphone didn't fancy me at all.
When I know that it's time that I buy a new phone, I did a thorough research on the current phones that are available and is within my budget since I'm getting the Xperia ZL off contract which can cost up to S$800 Singapore dollars in the Sony Store.
I gave myself a few brands to choose from, LG/Sony/Huawei.
After a thorough research by looking at youtube reviews, written reviews, I've come to a conclusion on buying a Sony phone.
Finally, I've decided to choose the Xperia ZL over the Xperia Z and Xperia SP.
- Sony's phone has a very nice look and feel
- Sony Xperia ZL being the most compact 5 inch screen that is available on the market
- The dust and waterproof feature isn't something that I will find it useful
Specs wise, I'm actually looking for a quad core phone with its processor clocked at 1.5 GH and a 320 GPU. RAM wise, 2 GB would be sufficient for current phone market. Battery wise, nothing much to say since it does not have a removable battery, which is a pretty common sight for high end phones nowadays. These specs are pretty common and there are a handful of phones with such specs. Things like expandable storage was definitely a bonus since the ZL is one of Sony's 2013 flagship.
And I have to say, the research I did paid off. I got the phone which can cater to my daily needs and wants. Technology is changing everyday, and it's almost impossible for us users to own a so called perfect phone. And it's pretty stupid I would say, to buy a new phone from carriers whenever a new model is released by the mobile carriers, it's like becoming a phone/technology slave. So I would give myself a 2 year time span in between before I decide to change any phone, and I believe its the most wise move for myself.

but as stated, yes the perfect phone doesn't exist, but to answer your question, in a personal experience, what i look for is:
physical size: phone must be small, if i was to walk around with a thing the size of a book and more heavy i'd rather take my old trusty netbook, or get a slim gaming laptop/notebook
expansible storage: i use a 64GB microSD card on mine right now and is almost full, too much video projects, and sample music in flac format, i do have a portable HDD, but with the phone i can actually access files on the go; this takes me to...
USB OTG, it is a must here, since that way i can transfer files to other usb devices without a PC, connect other devices like gamepads and such to the phone, etc.
right now, i also need a decent camera, cameras are tricky, is not just about the amount of megapixel(s) they have, you must consider the lens, the processing software, the shutter speed, the sensor type, etc. in general sony phones do have a good hardware, but the camera app is usually not so good to everyone out there i recomend the lenovo super camera app.
just with those, is clear you will be looking for good processor and amount of ram, since 2GB is the highest right now, get that, as per processor any quad core would do the job, later on once OS are enhanced to use 64-bit, then it will be a good idea to upgrade.
