We already saw Xiaomi, Huawei, Nokia and many more introducing their latest handsets in Barcelona. As usual, Sony scheduled its event early in the morning at the first day of MWC 2019, and the time has come. The rumor mill kept spewing new info every other day, so we summed up the most trustworthy rumors and leaks.
Sony trademarked the CinemaWide moniker for its display, confirming we are about to see Cinema ratio of 21:9 in a smartphone, making it one of the longest out there. Surely it will remain P-OLED as the Xperia XZ3, but the fingerprint scanner will stay on the side, instead of going under the screen.
The ratio is expected to be copied onto any eventual midrangers, but there are debates about the naming.
Logic suggests the successor of the Xperia XZ3 might be named Xperia XZ4 or Xperia XZ3 Premium. However, many rumors are pointing to the name Xperia 1 - simple as that. We also expect the XA series to commemorate 10 years of Xperia smartphones and to switch to Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus.
We also expect to see an affordable handset called Xperia L3 - looks like the name change hasn’t caught up with the lower series.
Sony usually launches its Xperia smartphones at MWC with the latest Qualcomm chipset and we think this will be the case as well. We are also up for a three-camera setup on the back, which would be a first for the Japanese manufacturer.
The Xperia 10 and 10 Plus are likely to come with Snapdragon 630 and Snapdragon 660, respectively. RAM could be 3 GB or 4 GB, with storage being just 64 GB, but both devices will have microSD slots.
Another piece of rumor is pricing. Surely it will fluctuate market to market, but this is the ballpark where we expect to see the smartphones.
|Sony Xperia XZ4 / Xperia 1||€950|
|Sony Xperia XA3 / Xperia 10||€350|
|Sony Xperia XA3 Ultra / Xperia 10 Plus||€430|
|Sony Xperia L3||€200|
We are in Barcelona for MWC 2019 and will be at the launch as well. The event begins early in the morning, 8:30 local time, so join in with a cup of coffee or tea to see the magic tricks Sony is planning to pull out of its pocket.
