I've owned this device since release, It's been through a lot.
Battery life isn't very good, especially after so long. The vibrator rattles a bit now that the phone has loosened up over time, makes an annoying sound. Phone runs decently fast but if you opt to upgrade beyond Android 1.5 then things can get sluggish. The biggest flaw is lack of RAM and internal storage.
Overall the phone is durable and reliable but has many technical limitations. It has some flaws but it's understandable for the first Android phone ever! I'd recommend this phone to the technically inclined: it's the best phone to mess around with, hands down. For the average person I'd say find something a little newer.

the worst htc device with android OS of all time..cant believe hero beats the crap out of it with having the same OS on it ... i have no idea what the heck was htc thinking while making the G1/dream

I am download g1 application from android market but application not download and displayed cannot support this download tell me some reference about it

Open Handset Alliance: This is the same as the HTC Dream. However, it's definitely worth getting this one over the HTC because it'll be cheaper. It's a little known fact that re-branded HTC's like the O2 (in the UK) are cheaper then their "original" counterparts. Only possible issue might be that if something goes wrong with it, HTC (although the manufacturer) won't fix it. So you'll have to take it to your service provider and they will probably send it to their supplier (T-Mobile) who will then in turn send it to HTC.......A process you could avoid by getting the "original".
It's all too confusing.
I'm not sure about this third party application. Hopefully Google will develop their own versions of Office, pdf viewers/editors, etc.

All of u complaining about battery life of android phones, go to market and install APNdroid. It will enable you switch off internet access when not in use. This will greatly boost ur battery life. I used to have less than 24 hrs with my G1 before. Now it can last up to 3days with APNdroid off. I only switch it on whenever l wanna browse the net.

I just got this phone but i love it except the battery life is really bad if your online it dies in like 2 hours but other then that it is a great phone all kinds of great apps and I also had the problem of when i put my sim card in it said only emergency number, all you have to do is call t mobile and get a code from them its because the phone is locked.

Hello everyone.. I have a G1 when I put my tmobile simcard it doesn't go through to the main menu. I only saw emergency call only and call 911. I had the same problem before when i bought sidekick 3.. tmobile customer service told me to press something and the sidekick works. but i forgot what combination key that i did press down on that time is there anyone who can help me? thanks
