Anonymous, 17 Nov 2008What is the difference between US G1 and UK G1?There is no difference between the USA and UK G1 as far as hardware is concerned.

Software wise, there is nothing different either, other than the fact that I heard a USA G1 will have access to the USA Android Market and the UK G1 will have access to the UK Android Market.

I have a USA G1 using it here in the UK and I have no problems what so ever. The good thing is, when OTA updates are available, a USA G1 gets them first :D

UK recently got the RC8 update but I got the RC30 update about 5 days ago now.

There is no difference between the 2, just that RC30 is for the USA and the RC8 is for the UK.

BrOdA, 12 Nov 2008Is there any chance to switch on G1 without creating account on Google??No!

You must have a Gmail account else you will not be able to use the device!

In my opinion, Gmail is the best free webmail out there and I think everyone should have one. If you dont want one then just create one (very easy to do with the G1) and then you wont need to use it again.

After that, you can use the email client to set up your preffered email.

Anonymous, 12 Nov 2008looks good but do it have stylus for touchscreen? yup i know its motion touch phone but just a... moreNope, no stylus as nothing but your skin will work. Not even your nails will work! Just your finger!

This is a good thing as it is very finger friendly and in most cases you only need to touch once and not 2 or 3 times as you do sometimes with resistive touch screens!

Anonymous, 15 Nov 2008i work for t-mobile and i can easily say this handset is excellent ! they gave us a few to ... moreIt's all well and good having one to "mess around with" but try using it on a day to day basis.
I am fairly confident that if you took it on the road for a few days instead of sitting in your office "messing with it" your opinion would change.

When i was sitting at home "messing with it" in the beginning i thought it was brilliant, I could even overcome the design flaws such as the chin making it slightly awkward to use the keyboard, and the clunky, slightly cheap feeling of the sliding mechanism, But once i got into the real world and started using it as a phone and business tool instead of as a toy, Then its Flaws became even more evident !!

I think it is what it is.... A TOY FOR TECH PEOPLE SITTING IN AN OFFICE MESSING ??

SirJames, 13 Nov 2008The G1 is awful. Compared to an ancient Nokia flip-phone I've carried for years, it is neander... moreI almost fully agree with hat you have written, To be fair Android is great and i can see lots of potential as more developers become involved, But the phone itself was not given any thought, It is such a poor design.
It's ok all these people shouting back at how you should be using a laptop etc. But they really need to try using this phone in a real world situation, not sitting at home in thier bedrooms :-)
when driving this phone is a nightmare, No voice dialling means you have to use the touchscreen to dial a number, If it is in your contacts, then you need to open the keypad to type the name, or use the scroll function go to through your contacts list, then when you find the number the battery dies...
I bought an FM transmitter to use it in my car like an ipod, but quickly discover that after playing maybe one album the battery had been depleted severely, But you cannot plug in the headphones/transmitter at the same time as the charger :-(

As for those who say yes, but this is all sort with RC29, how long are you supposed to wait for this update ? It is rolled out as and when it gets to you, You cannot just download it which seems silly, Why not put a link on android market for the update ?

At the end of the day, FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT... and my first impressions of this phone were not good at all, T-Mobile should have spent more time looking at the design and performance of this handset before releasing it.

i work for t-mobile and i can easily say this handset is excellent !

they gave us a few to mess around with and i found it extremly easy to use, the touch screen was simple and anything i chose it was only one touch, unlike other phones were you press 5 times and nothing happens

the only thing that lets it down in my opinion is that you cannot record videos on it !

besides that its one of the best handsets on the market

Does anyone have any experience trying to use Excel (perhaps with more advanced functions in a spreadsheet) or Word documents on the phone? I don't refer to google docs.

this phone is great. only thing it needs is a 3.5mm headset adapter since the one it came with blewout on me the 2nd week i got it. other than that no complains here. and yes this phone shuts out the iphone 3g no problem. even the youtube app on the iphone is laggy.

I have had My G1 since October 13th. I have the RC30 Update. I have also previously had an Iphone 3G, as well as many other phones, however I do not think that there is any phone out there that can possibly stand up to the G1. If you dont like the phone its probably becuase you read to much into the hype and you think it should do everything for you, especially you guy who cant differentiate between the send and delete key, you dont deserve this phone. I love this phone and will keep indefinately! I cant imagine another phone coming out that will trump this thing.

FOR EVERYONE POSTING HERE, notice how it says that bluetooth is supported for headsets ONLY. This is insane! What if I want to send a file to my friend's phone? I have to connect it to my PC first???

k first off... whoever thinks tha bettery is poor, is stupid.... first u need the RC29 update which helps ALOT for battery life, next you need the work in the battery... completely drain it, and charge it for 12 hours.. do it 3 nights in a row, my battery works very well. getting beter every day!... and for those complaining about camera! dont worry, g1 reps say they are working on it, in the near future OTA updates will fix shutter speeds. and if ANY ONE thinks this phone is not better then iPhone, they are just ignorant apple fans.. OPEN source means future friendly... means anything u need, you'll eventually get... anything u need fixed... you'll get.. and for the one complaining about the delete button on top of send?... look at your keyboard and tell me where your delete button is and your enter key?... if u have a problem with sending instead of deleting.. it doesnt look like u should be using a keyboard on a phone.. might as weell carry a laptop for your fat ass fingers... next.. it might not feel metalic... but it certainly does not feel cheep... nice glass screen... i want your iphone to compete with that..

The G1 is awful. Compared to an ancient Nokia flip-phone I've carried for years, it is neanderthal. 1. It cannot access Tmobile "My Albums" photobank. 2. It cannot access Family Allowance sliders for managing minutes. 3. It cannot download an sms photo to the phone. If you can get it to work at all,(Photos with embedded messages from very basic T Mobile photo phones totally baffle the phone and the Android experts) You must forward the phone to your Gmail account. And 4. OMG when you sync up with Gmail if you had an account for a while all your lame email contacts will push all your phone contacts off into the ether somewhere. 5. But the absolutely worst design feature by far is mounting the tiny delete button on the keyboard adjacent to the SEND button. Try to correct a typo or rethink a bit of poorly chosen words and a fat or misguided finger SENDS the mistake quicker then you can say G1! My old Nokia allowed me to set a timed "silence" or Meeting" ring tone for a predetermined time 2 hours for a movie, 8 hours for work. what have you... With G1, it is silent or Not. period No timers no choices. and the volume..there is none. you lay the phone on it's back to protect the prcious touch screen and you are laying it on the speaker! If you have a hearing problem or need more volume in a noisy environment, a mall sports event or outdoors... forget about it.

It can tell you the air quality in your neghborhood but it dials your least favorite person at just the wrong time all by itself. It sets errant alarms for no reason and dies at the worst times. This thing had to have been rushed to market with no prior end user testing.

Simply put, a thousand software androids working with unlimited time could not fix the hardware and T-Mobile interface problems this thing carries. T-Mobile's response "Yeah we forgot to tell ya that, but we know about the problems...and it is okay because some of our other phones don't work with T mobile web features either. Oh... but next month it comes out in a white cased version. so look cool and explain why it is the next great thing.

Remember you only have 14 days to discover what this thing won't do. And don't expect a user manual. T-Mobile and Android refuse to include a manual beyond "Getting started" which just hypes features with no real instructions. The full 141 page tome is not supplied with the unit still lacks clear directions for some features and pitfalls and it is buried online. I'm a fairly bright guy and I like technology more than most but this thing will make you feel dumb and have you scratching you head in an instant at every turn.

My old Nokia is getting it's SIM card back next week.
