Introduction and specs

The Tecno Pova 5 Pro was released only six months ago, so the Tecno Pova 6 Pro should be a minor refresh of its predecessor. However, as the name implies, there's much more to it.

Tecno Pova 6 Pro review

The Tecno Pova 6 Pro brings a handful of generational upgrades across all departments - display, battery, charging, memory and camera. It also retains relatively the same price if you equate it for storage since the Pova 6 Pro offers 256GB by default while the Pova 5 Pro launched with a 128GB base configuration.

Tecno Pova 6 Pro specs at a glance:

  • Body: 165.5x76.1x7.9mm, 198g; glass front, plastic back and frame; IP53, dust and splash resistant.
  • Display: 6.78" AMOLED, 120Hz, 1300 nits (peak), 1080x2436px resolution, 20.3:9 aspect ratio, 393ppi.
  • Chipset: Mediatek Dimensity 6080 (6 nm): Octa-core (2x2.4 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6x2.0 GHz Cortex-A55); Mali-G57 MC2.
  • Memory: 256GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM; microSDXC (dedicated slot).
  • OS/Software: Android 14, HIOS 14.
  • Rear camera: Wide (main): 108 MP, 0.7µm, PDAF; Depth: 2 MP; Depth: 0.08 MP (auxiliary lens).
  • Front camera: 32 MP, (wide).
  • Video capture: Rear camera: 1440p@30fps, 1080p@30fps; Front camera: 1200p@30fps.
  • Battery: 6000mAh; 70W wired, 50% in 20 min, 100% in 50 min (advertised), 10W reverse wired.
  • Connectivity: 5G; Dual SIM; Wi-Fi 5; BT 5.3; NFC; FM radio; Infrared port; 3.5mm jack.
  • Misc: Fingerprint reader (under display, optical); stereo speakers.

For roughly the same price, the Pova 6 Pro now offers a 120Hz OLED panel instead of IPS LCD; it brings a 108MP main camera into the mix, replaces the older 50MP shooter, and upgrades the battery capacity from 5,000 to 6,000 mAh. Charging should also be marginally faster, and reverse wired charging should now be supported.

Tecno Pova 6 Pro review

The new handset also holds onto the Dimensity 6080, which is good news as the Pova 5 Pro fared well in our tests and ranked highly among its similarly priced rivals.

Additionally, the Pova 6 Pro is now IP53 dust and splash-proof and sports a new design, but it is still based on a similar design language. The LED strips on the back remain too.

Unboxing the Tecno Pova 6 Pro

As usual, Tecno offers a generous retail package containing not just the usual user manuals, charger and cable, but also a pair of wired headphones like in the good old times.

There's also a transparent silicone case for extra protection.
