T-Mobile Galaxy S II won't use Exynos chipset

Samsung T-Mobile Android Touch UI

T-Mobile made somewhat of a strange appearance at the Samsung Galaxy S II US event. The carrier did confirm that it will be getting its own version of the flagship device, but that's about as much as they gave us. We were denied a detailed specs sheet or any information about availability and pricing.

So we were left waiting for either Samsung or T-Mobile to give us more bits before we can solve the puzzle. And today we got a quite important one from the Samsung Telecommunications Marketing Manager Philip Berne, who confirmed that the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II won't be using the company's home-made Exynos chipsets.

Mr. Berne didn't say what System-on-a-chip will be replacing Exynos, but the Qualcomm's Snapdragon APQ8060 seems to have the upper hand over Nvidia's Tegra 2. Despite the minor performance advantage that Tegra has, the Qualcomm chip supports 42 Mbps HSDPA, while the Nvidia silicone only does 21 Mbps, just like Exynos. And if network performance is a vital marketing spec for T-Mo (you know, their 4G network and all), the Qualcomm chipset seems a better bet than the rest even though the Exynos platform is more powerful general performance-wise.

Now, how about a release date and some pricing info on the T-Mo Galaxy S II?

What the heck is T-Mobile doing? We already have the HTC Sensation and don't need another one! Thank god for the Nexus Prime!
