T-Mobile Android Touch UI

Today T-Mobile announced their second Android-powered smartphone. The full-touch T-Mobile myTouch 3G will run on version 1.5 of the OS and, unlike the G1, will sport no hardware keypad whatsoever.

The company that introduced the world's first Android handset last September is now reinforcing its ranks with the slimmer and more compact myTouch 3G. Functionally identical to the HTC Magic, it will offer a nice alternative for the not-so-heavy texters, who can live with the onscreen QWERTY keyboard instead.

The T-Mobile myTouch 3G will come with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display of HVGA resolution, identical to the one found on the T-Mobile G1 pioneer. It also comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS (suited for the T-Mobile network) as well as GPS and Wi-Fi.

There will also be a 3 megapixel auto focus camera, Bluetooth and USB connectivity onboard. It runs on the same Qualcomm 7201A platform with a 528 Mhz CPU and has 192 MB of RAM just like the other HTC-manufactured Android devices.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G will come with the exclusive Sherpa app preinstalled. It uses GPS to help you find cinemas, restaurants etc. in the vicinity. Unlike other similar applications though, Sherpa remembers the choices you've made in the past so it can make better recommendations in the future.

The most impatient users will be able to preorder the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, starting from July 8 with the actual shipping taking place towards the end of the same month. The handset will cost 199.99 US dollars on a two-year contract and will be available in white, black and red color versions.
