Unlocked and expensive Asus Padfone goes on sale in the US

Asus Android Touch UI

The Asus Padfone has made its way to the United States in an unlocked state, ready to entice prospective buyers with a knack for something other than the run of the mill smartphone/tablet combo. The curiously talented handset however comes far from being the most sensible offering in the high-end Android realm - its price is simply eye-watering.

As you can notice in the screenshot above, an unlocked 16GB version of the Asus Padfone, bundled with the tablet dock will set you back the rather steep $859.50. Expect the price to go up by another Benjamin should you decide that you need some extra built-in storage.

This kind of cash will easily land you separate Android smartphone and a tablet straight from the top shelf. In case you look really hard, you might even be left with some spare change. Which option do you think makes more sense?

I really wanted for this combo to be a huge success, because it shows that even big comanies like Asus need to invest heavy in R&D to stay in the ever lasting game to please the customers. But bad things struck this phone. First it was not so...
