[UPDATED] Greenpois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 is out for Mac and Windows

04 February, 2011

iPhone Apple TouchUI

The Chronic Dev team has just released the much anticipated jailbreak for version 4.2.1 of iOS. This time it's not a tethered one so iPhone owners won't be worrying about re-jailbreaking after reboot. Using greenpois0n you should be able to free your device from its chains and enjoy all it can offer you, no limitations attached.

It's not without its drawbacks, however. The release is from today so there are issues, which need to be ironed out. Like, say, the lack of Windows support, it's just for Mac users at this point. The same goes for Linux. We're sure this will change in the near future.

Update 06 Feb: Greenpois0n is now available for Windows as well. If the site is down for you, you can google around a mirror. Here's one, for instance.

Also there is still no SIM unlock for anything higher than iOS 4.1 so if you depend on the unlock to use your iPhone, don't upgrade just yet.

So the latest iOS software version is out of the way now and everyone can jailbreak their device, even if it's newly bought, which was not the case until today. But the 4.3 update is coming out really soon, so maybe the triumph will be short lived. We'll see.
