Zakmwash, 30 Dec 2010Hi guys, i just wanted to know the connection between huawei and vodafone because in kenya thi... moreHuawei is a chinese company that manufactures various phone models including vodafone VF845 which is also called Huawei VF845 and it is also called "Joy" in some countries.
The relationship between Huawei and Vodafone is that, Vodafone UK contracted Huawei to manufacture the phone model specifically for them and hence the vodafone logo.
Vodafone UK has significant shareholding with Safaricom(K) and therefore Safaricom can sell the phone in Kenya using the same brand name.
At least that is what i think.
Zakmwash, 30 Dec 2010Hi guys, i just wanted to know the connection between huawei and vodafone because in kenya thi... moreHi Zakmwash, I bought the Vodafone 845 from Safaricom in Nairobi, unlocked it ($19.95) and rooted it. The Safaricom version does NOT include the Market app which opens the doors up to all of the cool Android apps, thus the need to root it and install custom ROM. (Not hard at all)I had a completely open phone with Mr Edition Rom running 30 min after I got the unlock code. It is a very good phone with great capabilities. Just for the record, the reason for unlocking and custom ROM is that I travel between Kenya and the U.S.A. regularly and needed the ability to use it here in the U.S. too.
i am slowly getting used to this phone..its a good play toy for me and saved me buying a more expensive phone..i use it for 2 degrees and vodafone sim cards..i might sell it once the new years is past as i have gone back to the physical keyboard..i still cant get used to typing on a screen..
Hi guys, i just wanted to know the connection between huawei and vodafone because in kenya this phone is called "Huawei VF845" yet it has a vodafone logo?

Hey Fellas!!! Wishin to buy one for new year....Is it a worth for money???? Waitin for ur rplies.....
Having problems when having set both the vibrator and ringtone on...only the vibrator be going off during an incoming call.....then again the ringer goes on..how do you set this up as required???
martin, 18 Dec 2010please can anybody tell me how to add ringtones to the default ones , or how to add mp3 tones ... moreYou must convert the .mp3 files to .amr. A free converter can be obtained from download.cnet.com/...MP3-to-AMR-Converter/3000-2170_4-10620578.htm
After conversion load the .amr files into the recordings folder of your phone's microSD drive. Then follow the instructions on page 129 of the user manual. Setting a MVoice Clip as a Ringtone. The converter has a time limit of 20 seconds which was enough to convert my mp3 ringtone
Anonymous, 20 Dec 2010Has anyone successfully upgraded Vodafone 845 OS to Android 2.2? If so, where do you see the b... moreInofficial upgrade is existing but its pre pre alpha, made by an individual.
Processor, etc. of the 845 is not made for 2.2 and Huawei will never release a 2.2 upgrade they said. Sad... but there are so many great custom ROM's out there... no need for 2.2 :) Even App2SD is working
Has anyone successfully upgraded Vodafone 845 OS to Android 2.2? If so, where do you see the biggest improvement, and drawback? Thanks.
