Week in review

Hello and welcome to your weekly digest. This week saw the official arrival of the 64MP smartphones. First Realme sort-of announced the first 64MP smartphone with the Realme XT, then Xiaomi properly announced the first 64MP smartphone in the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Apple meanwhile officially confirmed that the next iPhones are coming on September 10!

Oppo unveiled the Reno2, Reno2 Z and Reno2 F. The Reno2 has a Snapdragon 730G chipset, 48MP main snapper with an ultrawide, dedicated macro and a 13MP telephoto camera. The Reno2 Z uses a Helio P90 chip, 48MP main camera with an ultrawide, black and white and depth sensor. The Reno2 F uses a Helio P70 and a slightly darker f/1.8 aperture on the main camera.

Meizu announced the 16s Pro with a Snapdragon 855+ chipset, 48MP regular + 16MP ultrawide + 20MP telephoto triple camera. It will go on sale on August 31, starting at CNY 2,700 (~$380).

The Google Pixel 4 leaked, giving us our first good look at its front and back, revealing a thicker top bezel and what looks like a dual camera on the rear.

The OnePlus 7T surfaced as well with a Snapdragon 855+ chipset and a 90Hz FullHD+ display.

The Samsung Galaxy M30s made the rounds this week. It will house a triple camera on the rear, 6,000mAh battery on the inside and will cost INR 15,000 or INR 20,000 depending on the configuration when it launches next month.

The vivo NEX 3 is rumored to support crazy 120W SuperFlash Charge and have a 64MP main camera. It's expected to arrive next month.

Speaking of fast charge, Samsung has confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy A91 will support Samsung's 45W charging.

DxO published its Sony Xperia 1 test this week, the score matching devices like the Google Pixel 2, Pocophone F1 and the iPhone 8 - not company a 2019 flagship camera wants to keep. We found the camera more than capable in our review, though, so there's more than a simple number to describe a camera perfomance.

We finally got to see the Huawei Mate 30 Pro from the rear. It will feature two large sensors - 1/1.55" for the main camera and 1/1.7" for the ultrawide. There will be a zoom and the fourth will likely be a Time of Flight camera.

Speaking of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, BBC claims Google couldn't grant a Play Services license to Huawei's upcoming flagship. If Huawei doesn't resolve this quickly it might need to delay the launch in international markets, as the phone will never be competitive there without Play services.

See you in a week!
