It was another week of Samsung-themed conversations in the tech world. Samsung's next flagship Galaxy S10 was again a regular in our news section.
This week the Galaxy S10 talk is that Samsung will bring back the "flat" display for the entry-level model (quotation marks because the screen will likely still taper off to a 2.5D curve) while retaining the prominent edge curve for the higher-end Galaxy S10 models.
Those same higher-end Galaxy S10 models could swap out the rear glass for ceramic, which will provide added scratch resistance to the phones while retaining the wireless charging capabilities.
The Galaxy S10 will mark the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S series (well, technically 9th anniversary, 10th device) and it's clear that Samsung is betting big on its success. With sales slowing down and rivals such as Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo bringing aggressive competition, Samsung could be facing a crisis otherwise.
That makes 2019 a big year for Samsung. And the market leader looks poised to take it head on. According to the rumor mill it's prepping a 6.7-inch smartphone with 5G - perhaps the Galaxy Note10.
The rest of the Samsung-related topics this week round off with the Galaxy A8s and the new Infinity-O screen, which was sighted in the wild.
The display has a circular cutout in the upper left corner of the screen and there's a good chance we're going to see it premiered with the upcoming Galaxy A8s, which we saw for the first time this week.
In other news, analysts report that Apple will be forced to scale down iPhone XR, XS and XS Max production due to lower than predicted sales. Apple is still coming out on top, financially, thanks to its higher average selling price, though.
Meanwhile Realme teased that the U1 will go on sale on November 28 while Asus teased the Zenfone Max Pro (M2) - a device with "next-generation gaming".
The Honor 10 Lite made its debut this week, packing great value-for-money and Xiaomi set a Guinness World Record for the most stores opened simultaneously - 500.
See you next week!
The flat-screened S10 will reportedly stick with glass for the back, which has a positive side - the ceramic will be available in only two colors.
A report on chemicals for AMOLED displays reveals the configurations of the three S10 variants.
The conservative approach towards innovation is rocking the stability of the mobile division.
The benchmark results raise a few eyebrows, though. For example, OnePlus 6 outscores the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
An Infinity-O display on the front, triple camera at the rear.
The phone will be the first device with Helio P70 in the world.
It's not just the iPhone XR - XS and XS Max sales are slowing down as well.
We are still a long way from significant scale production but we are getting there.
A circular hole goes straight through the display panel, the selfie camera module will look through it.
Another leak, suggesting HMD is going all in with the camera department.
Ambitious promises for a Snapdragon 660-powered phone.
The new wave of brick-and-mortar stores is part of a “New Retail” project, aimed to reach rural India.
It runs on Kirin 710 chipset and brings 24 MP camera with AI selfies, tucked in a waterdrop notch.
Otherwise, the Galaxy S10 might be announced in February.
The budget Galaxy S10 will miss on the under-display tech.
Nah, they’re probably true, though that’s the thing. Sales happens over a year, not just a few months. Initial sales suck but long term ones will probably pick up
