Weekly poll vivo

What’s more important in a new smartphone – the chipset or the camera? The vivo X60 Pro+ answers “both” as it brings the Snapdragon 888 and a fully-loaded quad camera to the market.

Which markets? Well, China obviously, but the company has began its expansion into Europe and even became the official smartphone provider for the Euro 2020 and 2024 UEFA championships. India has been a traditional stronghold for vivo as well.

All that said, we haven’t heard vivo’s official plans for its new flagship going abroad. But let’s daydream for a bit – if/when the X60 Pro+ becomes available in your region, will you be tempted to pick one up?

Weekly poll: can vivo X60 Pro+'s flagship chipset and camera convince you to buy one?

vivo equipped the Snapdragon 888 chipset with fast LPDDR5 RAM and enhanced UFS 3.1, so it should be as fast as Androids get this year. Whether or not the brand new OriginOS (based on Android 11) is to your liking is for you to decide.

But there’s a lot to like about the camera. The company is a fan of the ISOCELL GN1 image sensor. At 1/1.31” it is as big as those 108 MP sensors. However, it is optimized for pixel size (1.2µm) instead of resolution. vivo has started joint R&D program with lens maker ZEISS to bring some star power to its cameras.

The ultrawide camera boasts gimbal system that has a market-leading stabilization angle of ±3°, triple that of a typical OIS. Also, this camera has the same 48MP IMX598 sensor that was good enough main camera on the X50 Pro. With a 50mm portrait lens and a 5x periscope lens this phone makes a serious bid for having the best cameras of 2021.

Before moving on from the camera, here are some official camera samples that show off what the Pro+ can do:

The vivo X60 Pro+ is dressed to impress with a leather back and a curved 6.56” AMOLED screen. It’s fast with 120Hz refresh rate (and 240Hz touch sampling rate) and its HDR10+ mode is backed by precise factory calibration.

We know that the curved screen and lack of a microSD card slot won’t sit well with some. At least the company equipped the phone with a Cirrus CS4313 DAC to use with wired headsets. No, there’s no 3.5mm jack on board, but you get a USB-C headset and a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter in the box. And a 55W charger for the 4,200 mAh battery. That’s a well-stocked retail package.

The vivo X60 Pro+ is currently on pre-order in China for CNY 5,000. That works out to $775/€635, though its actual price abroad will be different – if it ever launches outside of China (and Pro+ models rarely do). But if it does, do you want one?
