Weekly poll Samsung

Pre-orders for the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series are now live and will last until February 7. As has become the tradition with these launches, the pre-order perks are a big part of the reason to upgrade. But will you be upgrading to an S25?

Our hands-on review has our early verdict on the series. You can also watch the hands-on video for more of the Galaxy S25 trio.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is the only one with a camera upgrade – the ultra-wide module now has a 50MP sensor, up from 12MP on the S20-S24 Ultra. There’s also the new Snapdragon 8 Elite, whose ISP has more number crunching power for image processing. Check out the Galaxy S25 Ultra vs. S24 Ultra camera shootout for a preview of how much of a difference these upgrades make.

Samsung bumped up the screen a bit (6.8” to 6.9”) by slimming down the bezels, rounded off the corners and added more durable Gorilla Armor 2 protection (complete with anti-reflective coating). The S Pen has changed too, by returning to the pre-Galaxy Note9 design as a completely passive device (no more wireless actions).

Does the Samsung Galaxy S25+ have a reason to exist? The only upgrade from last year is the new chipset. Worse, Samsung teased the new Galaxy S25 Edge, which might be the next evolution of the Plus line – or even the S-series as a whole. Here are our thoughts on it from the time we spent with a prototype (Samsung still hasn’t announced when the Edge is planned to launch).

The Samsung Galaxy S25 finally got upgraded to 12GB of RAM. But not to 256GB base storage, let’s not get too crazy. It has the new chipset too, of course, and that’s it. Not even a bump to the slow 25W charge speed – and no UWB either.

Okay, to give Samsung some credit, the S25 phones are 0.4mm thinner than their predecessors and a few grams lighter too (14g in the case of the Ultra, not bad). That’s cool, though we’re not sure we wouldn’t have preferred a battery capacity bump instead.

Despite rumors to the contrary, the prices of the Galaxy S25 series remain the same as the S24 phones in most markets, though there are a few exceptions, where there are minor price bumps. Some markets, like the US, have great trade-in deals and extra perks – here is what Samsung US is offering. But in other markets the trade-in value is less impressive.

Let’s start with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, easily the biggest upgrade of the three with some worthwhile improvements to the screen (and a questionable downgrade to the S Pen). Are you thinking of buying the S25 Ultra?

What about the Samsung Galaxy S25+ - is that a good buy or do you maybe want to hold off and see what the S25 Edge is all about?

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy S25 gives its flagship chipset more RAM to work with than previous iterations of the small S-phone. And now the phone is even smaller! But is it worth your money?
